It's weird, I've thought the world of both Ocarina of Time AND Wind Waker, but Wind Waker was a game I've never felt compelled to play a second time. With Ocarina of Time, I can keep coming back to it, try the 3 heart challenge, try to find all the secrets, all the glitches, etc. Wind Waker was so much fun when I first played it, but I mostly liked the sailing and exploring new areas. Now that I've done that, I haven't felt that urge to revisit it yet. I guess it's only been a few years since I played it, though. We'll see how it stands the test of time.
For the first 5 or so hours of Windwaker, I thought it was the best Zelda game.
I loved the story beginning. Loved Outset Island, loved Windfall, loved Dragon Roost. And then after Dragon Roost I thought the rest of the game just went nowhere. No more interesting locations to visit and no more interesting dungeons.
2 more towns or Islands a bit like Outset would've improved the game massively.
Man, this is pretty much exactly how I feel. When I bought the HD version, I had to force myself through the rest of the game. The ending does pick up again (as someone else mentioned), but gah... just not my favorite.
It's funny, because the Wind Waker was the open world game before open world games. Not to mention highly-indicative of the type of games to come:
-Collectables (spoils bag, treasure maps)
-Lot's of walking / dead space / featureless grass (sailing & the great sea)
-Pacing issues with the narrative bunched up at the beginning & end (Triforce quest, general sailing-around-everywhere-and-forgetting-what-a-Ganondorf-is)
What haven't we discussed in this thread yet? I feel like we've done basically all we can at the moment.
P.S Skyward Sword is probably my favorite; for personal reasons and because I liked the game overall.
I'm sure there's something relevant that we could talk about...
How about this: Would people prefer the current trend of redesigned recurring enemies in Zelda (For example, octoroks have gone from land creatures to replacing zoras as river creatures, to bomb-throwing sea creatures, to replacing or being replaced by deku scrubs), or would you prefer either a more traditional enemy roster from an earlier game you remember, or a complete overhaul of new enemies?
Though I personally wouldn't mind it, I think a cast of completely new enemies would be pretty bold. They tend to change things up enough by adding plenty of new enemies and redesigning old ones really differently.
I mostly just want to see a redesigned tektite return; I think tektites are cool, and I think they could make it jump really high this time. Usually in 2D Zelda games, they're difficult because they're jumping all over the screen, but in 3D Zeldas, they barely get a few feet off the ground. If they were rare mountain creatures, though, and you usually saw only one at a time, I don't think it would be too annoying and be pretty cool if it could hurl itself up to ledges you can't reach, then jump back down. This would be especially cool if there was a part of the game where you had to hunt one, and you had to get him in his natural territory, but you had the hookshot or arrows to help you out.
Feel free to discuss my tektite idea, the best way of designing enemies in a new legend of Zelda game, or perhaps which Zelda game you remember having the best enemies!
I've found this odd, Christiantoday.com reports on Zelda Wii U news and not just the game is announced at E3 type stuff but loose rumours and speculation too.
