On a scale of 1-10 what would be a realistic hype level?

I know there are still more games coming this year, but I'm expecting the likes of Project Guard, not an HD remaster of one of the best selling Zelda games.

I still wouldn't assume this early that Project Guard is a simple budget project. Remember after E3 2014, when everyone thought Splatoon, Treasure Tracker, and Mario Maker didn't look "fleshed-out" enough for a physical release, and assumed they were download only? Some games only seem to lack depth because we haven't seen how deep it can go yet.

But I wasn't one of them!

I'd love for Project Guard if it turns out to be a solid game with its own physical release, but if they're releasing the game this year, I can't see that happening (same with Twilight Princess); Even if we ignore the fact that we haven't seen any footage since E3 2014. Physical games tend to get rated way before their release, marketed to build up hype and usually advertised on plenty of online retailers and in brick-and-mortar stores. Unless this is due to Nintendo's screwed up marketing plans.

I definitely think the game had the potential to warrant its own physical release. However, if it's coming this year, I don't think we should expect all that much from it and it'll probably be a smaller game that is limited to the eShop.

6-7, sir.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

PlayStation Vita isn't a failure... Sales wise, its bad but it still has great games. Surely, us Wii U owners can understand how it feels to own something that deserves better sales, hmmmm? In other words, give the Vita a break.

Very well, said.

I think TP HD being a super surprise last minute holiday announcement is likely. With no physical release to worry about, they can just upload it to the eShop whenever they want, and are most likely using it as the "big" game of the year since both StarFox and Zelda U, which were both insisted on coming this year, were delayed.

The only thing I don't see happening it it being a complete ground-up remake like I saw some sites suggesting yesterday. More than likely it'd be a remaster with less muddy-looking textures.

@Operative:
I'm thinking they'll also give us gyroscope aiming and throw HUD along with the map to Gamepad á la Wind Waker HD and that's about it. Won't complain though, it'd be nice to have something this Christmas Ninty-wise and one of my favourite games no less. Then again, Nintendo has hurt me before: I don't dare to have faith anymore.

Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8

@Octane: I see. So you're not assuming that Project Guard is a budget title, you're just saying it's more likely to be that than Twi Pri HD? Fair enough!

If Twilight Princess HD is to be announced soon I think it'd more likely be a February release than a Christmas release, unless Nintendo is being very sneaky about it.

@Nicolai: Not exactly (although I do think that if one of those is going to be a budget title, it's definitely Project Guard). If the game is coming out this year, I expect it will be a budget title. If it was planned as a retail game, we would probably know it by now, due to the nature of retail releases. I don't think I've ever seen a retail game release out of the blue. I wouldn't say it's impossible, but it's extremely unlikely.

As for Twilight Princess, my thinking is the same. If TP HD releases this year, it will be an eShop exclusive title. However since I cannot see them releasing TP HD as ''just'' an eShop game, I don't think we'll be getting TP HD this year. Keep in mind that Wind Waker HD was a lot less work (assuming TP HD gets a proper remaster) and that game got a physical release, was full price and even got its own bundle. Twilight Princess sold more copies than Wind Waker and is arguably one of the most popular and/or well known Zelda games, therefore I think it should be almost a given that TP HD will also get a physical release and thus not release this year.

I can see Project Guard as a budget title, but I cannot see that happening for TP HD. Though, who knows? Nintendo doesn't really seem to have a predictable marketing strategy, but stealth releasing TP HD on the eShop this year would be a wasted opportunity.

You saw potential in it? I thought it looked like a half baked demo for a budget indie steam game.

Relatively. More potential than Giant Robot at least. With some different modes, more maps, enemies, (boss fights?), some gimmicks and whatnot they could have possibly turned this into a small retail game. I liked what I saw at E3, and don't forget that it was just a demo so who knows what has become of the game.

Tech demo is what I always described it as. Though GUARD looked like it had more potential than Robot.

Of course it looked like that. I'm sure it was pretty early in development. It seemed like Nintendo really wanted to show this in response to everyone wondering what Miyamoto does all day at Nintendo besides playing the banjo, so I'm certain there was a little bit of a rush to make a video on them. Bit I feel that any concept for a game had the potential for mechanics to be layered into it, adding more depth. Heck, all Splatoon needed was a few gear options and customizations, a rating system, etc. Maybe Project Guard could be more story-driven, maybe there are characters, multiple settings, etc. Maybe there are collectibles, or power-ups, or some kind of online multiplayer mode. It's certainly possible.

Do you guys think that new render of Link is the new TP HD Link model????

My instinct is that it is just an updated render based on the Super Smash Bros. design, which is already in HD. Though I cannot deny that it is curious that, out of all of the renders in that collage of Nintendo characters, Link's was the only one that was updated, and in the same pose they used for Twi Pri's official Link render. I mean, after all, Twilight Princess HD is almost definitely coming anyway.

Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy 7 remake will all destroy Splatoon in sales, my brother.

I will eat a lightbulb if Persona 5 manages half of the sales of Splatoon.

The other three will outsell it. FF7R probably by the skin of its teeth. Or I dunno. The Kitase/Nomura/Nojima team has this neat trick where they consistently make mediocre games that sell by the millions.

Keep in mind though that there are very mixed opinions about the Final Fantasy brand these days. FFXV will be the most expensive game that SE has ever made, but it won't be the best selling by a long shot.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

PSP, are you serious? 80+ million sales isn't something to laugh at. Yes, the DS sold almost twice as much, but 80 million hardware units is not bad in any way, shape or form.

And by your logic Nintendo might as well stop producing home consoles.

i didn't say it was bad i said Nintendo slayed them..

the second part doesn't make sense, my logic being?

That 'render' of Twilight Princess link is awfully small to draw any conclusions from. For all we know it could be the old 2D concept art that has been color-corrected to match the Mario verse.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Anything isn't possible though.

But if you want to believe that half baked tech demo is the next Splatoon then good luck with that.

Lol, of course it's not going to be the next Splatoon. I would expect a retail Project Guard to be something more like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
