I had more trouble with 9-Volt and 18-Volt than Wily. I have 15 or so characters in World of Light and not that great selection of spirits yet. I'm playing on Hard and beating battles without spirits whenever possible.
I'm guessing the Sheriff assist trophy in the "Volts battle" would have killed himself if I had a franklin badge but I don't have any spirits that give me access to that. Found the Sheriff spirit from a chest today but I already finished the battle so it's too late for that, though it will come handy elsewhere. My strategy with annoying characters is to meteor smash them off the stage and that helped here as well, as long as the Sheriff didn't interrupt.
As for Wily, I could easily kill the first 4 opponents and even got to the 7th and 8th but wasn't quite able to do it with Mega Man or Villager. Then I switched to Wii Fit Trainer so I could heal with Sun Salutation and Deep Breathing. Won on my first try with WFT though it was quite close. I wish I had some spirits with healing abilities for battles like Wily. The battle was fun though.
I've been spending plenty of time creating my own playlist. Really digging a lot of the F-Zero, Punch Out!!, and Xenoblade tracks. Earthbound is nice too. Amount of content on offer is just staggering.
@scubydo Music is mainly via the main shop (not the WoL shops, the shop in the "Vault" section of the main menu) though some are only in WoL or challenge rewards. The music in the main shop can also be earned by playing classic mode.
@Quarth They really translated Simon/Richter perfectly. They have the same crawl animation from Super Castlevania IV, the same running animation from Symphony of the Night, and their forward-tilts are their normal attacks. They even got the strut perfectly, which was never ever done right in 3D before this game. I love everything about them.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
You know, I was sort of iffy on Smash. I enjoyed 64 and melee back in the day but those were pretty stale to me. I have to say that ultimate is really good. It's fast. It feels a lot different from melee and 64. Like it feels more like a regular fighting game physics wise.
Sakurai: Which is why I think we should forget about console wars and focus on what’s really important: enjoying the games themselves.

So, a week in, I still can't beat 4 star and many 3 star spirits. Grr.
How are you guys getting on with controllers? Preferring Pro or GCN? I actually bought myself one of those PowerA GCN controllers with a USB cable instead of GCN connector (why oh why do the official ones not do this?). Not bad quality. The cable is GROSS though.....stiffest PVC jacket I've ever seen. Cheap stuff. Controller's too light, but the buttons feel good. I'm not sure. The Pro is much more comfortable in hand, and I love the HD rumble...it' adds a lot. But the higher tension sticks, octagonal gates, and button layout of the GCN controller is so good. It gives me calluses at the base of my fingers though, and I can't figure out where to put my left middle finger comfortably (oh wait, just tried toon link + ness.....now I know where to put it.....)
But which controllers are you guys preferring this time?
...So no one has found out about the Black Hole Glitch yet? Is it gone for good? :c
@NEStalgia same here about the Spirit battles, I'm dealing with 9 and 18 Volt, that freakin' Assist Trophy. Gonna try it again because my most powerful Spirit was in the caves at the time. (Nightmare)
As for controls, I think I'll never go back to a normal control setup after playing Smash 3DS. I'm using Pro and I have X and Y as Grab and Shield, lol
@NEStalgia I use dual joycons. Which, is unsurprising since I've only played in tabletop and portable mode so far. But even when I do get to play docked, I'll stick with joycons. They're such a pleasure to use IMO, I love being able to move my hands freely while I play. Turned off tap jump, otherwise I'm using the normal controls. I'm considering switching my right analog over to tilts though, cause tilts are so much harder to pull off than smashes when it comes to consistency.
@NEStalgia I've been using my Pro, but I'm also used to joycon from so much hand held play. @link3710 Lemme know what you think. I've fiddled the right stick to tilts a few times, but I find myself using that stick less and less the more I play.

@HobbitGamer I use it a lot actually, but only for aerials. The fact that you can do a down air without entering fast fall makes it far better than using the left stick in my opinion. I'll see how I feel about tilts though? I feel like it'd only make a difference on a couple characters who rely an incredible amount on tilts over smashes.
Protip for anyone still struggling with Pauline fight; use a support that starts with the staff (used Cupid), and a support that makes shooting weapons stronger (used Pocket Football...er?). As soon as the match starts, jump to the platform closest with the two ladders side-by-side and fire twice. If you time the second shot right, it should KO her. Worked on my 3rd restart @Sanya_Clause Whereabouts on the map is that? I'll go see if I've beaten it or not. If not, I'll try something
