In Smash 4, my main is Mario so I’m a little terrified about them overalling him in the case it’s a new game. So for the first time I’m hoping Dr. Mario makes it into the game so people like me have SOMETHING. 😂
Just a geek that likes video games, and spends to much time playing Smash Bros. and Fortnite.

The fighter(s) I really want in Smash is honestly really just some sort of Pyra/Mythra character more in line with characters of the past like Zelda/Sheik where you can switch between the two. I know they've mostly put this concept to rest, but I would love to at least see one of these 2 in the game, heck, I'll take special alts if their just the same base character.
And that's another thing, I'm really hoping we get special alts in this game, meaning Mario would have an actual Dr.Mario model that you could use if you so choose rather than just different colors. They did kinda test the waters on this concept in Smash 4 with Bowser Jr, Corrin, Cloud, and Bayonetta, so it is not completely out of the question.
For everyone on the portquel train, here's an old article on the subject: https://sourcegaming.info/2017/07/30/what-1-1-7-might-tell-us...
tldr: Around the time Bayonetta was nerfed, internal files suggested that Smash 4 was being actively worked on again. Smash 4 was created by a team at Bandai Namco porting Brawl to Wii U and 3DS, and then Sakurai stepping in to build on top of that.
So there is both precedent for a portquel in the series, and it turned out as something everyone considered a true sequel.
@Deku-Scrub It's really only the concept two or three full characters masquerading as one that just doesn't work. Either one proves superior and you never switch off for anything (Sheik vs. Zelda), or switching is arbitrarily forced causing needless headaches (Pokemon Trainer).
Considering how Blades work, both Pyra and Mythra could easily work in tandem with Rex without the need to incorporate different movesets, since Rex uses the same weapon and style for both. At most, they'd have different Blade specials when called upon, say, by neutral B. As a broad picture of how they work in their own game, Mythra would provide faster attacks/better combos while Pyra would be the heavy hitter/launcher. All this merely through tweaking damage/knockback values, like with Shulk's Arts.
I highly doubt we’ll get any major news by E3, but I’ll be surprised if we don’t get a confirmation about if it’s the enhanced port, or a true sequel. Personally I’m on the sequel side, Nintendo would have said it was a port in the trailer.
As for characters, I think it’s a safe bet that no matter what you think the game is (sequel or port) we should smash (pun intended) the 60 character mark. As for my hopes..
Solid Snake, Ice Climbers, any Arms fighter, Waluigi, any Sonic character (an OC would be hilarious), Banjo Kazooie(A man can dream, Microsoft has been friendly in the past), Mike Jones, K.Rool, Simon Belmont, Captain Toad, and maybe return of Pokémon Trainer.
The odds of most of these happening is low, but I feel like after Cloud managed to get in, Nintendo just threw the rules out the window.
At the end of the day, whatever Smash Switch becomes, it's going to be all about semantics. Even if it just ends up as a combination of 3DS and WiiU, I'll be ecstatic! As someone who never played the 3DS version, I've been super jealous about some of the stages in it. Gerudo Valley and Magicant especially.
As for characters I'd love to see: HW Impa, HW Ganondorf, HW Volga, Zant, Waluigi, Knuckles, and the returning of Wolf and Ice Climbers. I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of ATM.
EDIT: I don't know how I managed to forget Travis Touchdown!
Okay, barf. The point of Link as a controllable character is that his range of action is defined by items that physically connect him to the world. Just waving a tablet around or using magic ghost powers for all his moves would make him look real dumb.
They should ditch regular Link, make a new moveset based on his BotW abilities, and keep Toon Link for the purists. Maybe they could even make Toon Link play a bit more like old Link.
That would leave them with two Toon Links. In any case, normal Link got a new dash attack in Smash 4 and the ability to charge the spin attack. His sword attacks and the spin attack all feel pretty good, so they should keep at least one version of him with them.
To early to tell whether its a enhanced port or a new one. Many people suspect its a enhanced port with added characters (Inklings coming to Smash, everyone could have seen that coming), but then there are also some new looks for old characters (Link has his Botw look). However, you can bet that this is the game that has to kickstart Nintendo's online service. I'll say something very random: Maybe Retro is working on this title!
On a sidenote: I really suspect indie stuff this time. Nintendo loves indies, there are already indie trophies in Smash 4. Shovel knight as a character is almost a given, since he is in everything. But I could see other characters, or assist trophies, music, stages, items...
Personally I was thinking: Maybe Trace or his Adress disruptor (I play Axiom verge at the moment, its great). Think about it, corrupting characters, parts of stages, items. Could make for some interesting gameplay!
I predict irrelevant of whether it's a port or a sequel, Bayonetta will return and be at least as powerful as in 3DS/Wii U causing even more complaints among the community.
Also a Bayonetta 2 stage as Smash is probably a big factor why we're even getting Bayonetta 3 in the first place.
I don't see the difference between a port and a sequel. All the Super Smash Bros. have been relatively identical: gradual changes make Smash 4 look and feel quite different to Smash 64 but really... Melee added side B and sped up the gameplay a bit, tweaking techs and under the hood mechanics... Brawl did so again and slowed the game down. Smash Balls were nice but all they are was a new item containing a JRPG cinematic in the form of a once off super. A change nevertheless but not exactly a whole new game. Subspace? Sure, a singleplayer mode is great fun, but like Splatoon it's not the core focus of the game. When it comes down to it, the Smash games are mostly the same with minor tweaks in feel rather than feature. You do PLAY the features, but the roster and graphics are what you come for, and those speak for themselves: will it have better graphics? At the rate of this generation of games, and knowing the hardware... probably not. Will it have different characters? I think that's evident.
Whether you think that's worth calling a port or a sequel is relatively irrelevent. I say, bring on Smash 1.9425!
That was pretty much my thoughts as well. @octane I'll admit you poking fun at how super intensive Smash analyzers are was pretty golden.
That's videogamedunkey.
He's a down to earth (but often nonchalant and dumb humor) youtuber who gives very realistic and slap in the face analysis of the gaming industry. 70% of his videos is him trolling and joking in games, the other 30% is serious and heartfelt hilarity on what gamers want and what companies deliever. I highly recommend watching his videos.
