@Elvie I don't think that argument has as much weight as you think, because Smash characters had moveset changes throughout every game. Zero Suit Samus, Luigi and Gannondorf play like almost completely different characters compared to how they were introduced.
I was thinking of that, too. Playing Brawl again now, and some of the old moves threw me off before I remembered the changes. Stupid Sheik whip 😂
I think the special move changes in 4 were ok because they didn’t really change the base move that much. Mostly. I prefer Ness’ PSI Vacuum over the Absorb, tho

@Snaplocket Spirits absolutely seems like a more natural way to power fighters. I mostly use the Custom fighters on the events and multi-man melee anyway. Some of them were ludicrous, I agree.
I can't wait to play around with Spirits, it looks to be a very fun thing indeed!

In all fairness, it’s 5 characters and 5 stages along with more music. Cheaper than StarLink DLC, too. PP is a 6th that’s not part of it.
DLC on 4 was weird since Mewtwo was cut from Brawl and Lucas was in Brawl.
I’ve got no real interest in the Fighter Pass for awhile, since there’s so much in the game at launch.

Smash is so much cheaper physical, and I like looking at the cases, but I fear I'm more likely to play the game in small bursts than for long sessions - and who wants to keep changing carts? I regretted getting Ultra Street Fighter II physical - though not the game itself - for precisely that reason.
Just interested in hearing the views of Smash fans - it'll be my first time.
Physical, may have considered also getting digital for some games like Smash Ultimate if the microSD card situation wasn't so bad. It's not like you can go out and buy a 2TB microSD card for cheap at this point like you can with external hard drives. The 128GB microSD card I got last year still has over half its space left because of going physical only for plenty of base games.
@Snaplocket In my argument, I'm mainly talking about specials. Yes, there have been some changes but some of those move set changes haven't gone far enough. Ganondorf still plays very similar to Captain Falcon in terms of special moves. Luigi uses the Green Missile attack, which has nothing to do with the games he has appeared in outside of Smash, along with his Luigi Cyclone probably being loosely based on the spin attack from Super Mario World.
The reasons why characters like Zero Suit Samus and Pit were given changes were to give them more viable move sets. In the case of Z.S. Samus, it increases her combo and aerial capabilities while replacing a original move from Brawl despite being created for Smash Bros. 4 as well. In Pit's case, it replaced a special move set nearly original to Brawl by supplying him with specials based upon Uprising.
@Elvie I still don't understand. CFalcon wasn't even ever in a fighting game, so with your view would that mean he either shouldn't be in it or else just appear and fight in a car?

I think 1 character may get announced before launch (maybe even the day before at The Game Awards), currently the only way to buy the fighters pass is the digital bundle of Smash Ultimate + Fighters Pass + Piranha Plant code. If you want to buy the physical version of the base game, you can't buy the Fighters Pass until December 7th.
@Grumblevolcano I wouldn't expect the first one until the spring Direct in March/April. The fighters pass not being available separately from the digital bundle until launch doesn't mean anything and is pretty standard.
@Yosheel That's highly unlikely at best. Sakurai has gone into great detail about the character creation process, and how long various parts take. Assuming these are all uniques (we know they aren't echoes, but theoretically we could see some semiclones), We won't see the first post-Pirahnha Plant character until at least April. No way that they'd be done in a month, the balancing process alone takes longer than that.
@MrBeanCartoonFan oh. There really was one. Anyway. That’s 99.99% in the realm of Mr Bean not being in a Smash Game. Sorry, but I’m sure you knew that.
Can’t stop you from enjoying him in other media, though! And you could always try to make a Mii Fighter look like him
