I was hoping Ultimate would have customs (now known as spirits) that would give fighters access to completely different moves based upon attacks from each of their series unlike Smash Bros. 4 where most of the fighters had variants of the same moves.

The reason I wanted this is because some characters have attacks that are either unfaithful, in others words original, or are ill-used. I understand that sometimes liberties had to be taken in order to create a viable fighter but other times we have cases like Ganondorf where he is a Captain Falcon clone through his special move set.

Does anyone think that the Spirits system could somehow remedy this by giving a fighter a Spirit based upon a different state/form of themselves that would at least restrict, if not replace, the unfaithful specials?

So, something to remove or replace a move that doesn't seem faithful to the character's source material?
I hope there isn't. Otherwise Pirahna Plant will just stand in place, or Ness won't have PK Freeze or PK Fire.

What I have in mind is supplying a fighter a Spirit that is actually another version of themselves like giving Kirby a Spirit based upon Mic Kirby that would replace his Down Special. Plus, Spirits are optional and they rely upon a player's decision/preferences.

@Elvie I don't think that would work. That's alot of balancing to do. Changing PK Thunder to PK Rolling Thunder is one thing, but to replace Brick Smash with what is essentially Jigglypuff's Sleep scream attack would be problematic.

@HobbitGamer I phrased this badly. I know adding varied custom moves would require a hefty amount of work, although I'm hoping it could happen someday, so I was trying to say restrict Kirby's down special and give him an Mic Kirby attribute in its place.

btw who was even asking for incineroar? No one liked it when it was revealed in the games. Aren't there about 100 other pokemon that people like more than that stupid thing?

Incineroar is also pretty popular in Japan.

@Snaplocket It is a minor topic but I feel that there should be moves/attacks that do a better job of representing characters. The problem is that if those moves are changed, people will get upset over changing a set of moves that they have become accustomed to so either customs or variants for fighters would probably be the best methods.

Every gen except 5 I went for the Fire starter (picked Water for Gen 5), was undecided between Litten and Rowlet for Gen 7 but then my New 3DS XL became pretty much unplayable outside of strategy RPGs so it didn't matter.

Incineroar is good for Smash but there's too many Fire/Fighting starter final evolutions for the Pokemon series in general (Blaziken, Infernape, Emboar, Incineroar), would be nice if Gen 8 changes this.

It was probably a playful reference to the fire/fighting starter trope. "Haha, got you! It's actually dark type!".

Anyway, Incineroar should be fun in smash, with their dirty tricks and flashy poses.

I was thinking how cool it would be if instead it was Pyra/Mythra and you could switch between them mid battle, much like Shiek/Zelda did...do? I got nothing against Rex, but Pyra/Mythra was the real star of the show in my eyes.

But another idea could be Rex and Prya, Roc, and a certain major spoiler character and Rex able to Switch between them like he does in-game.

I just want a XC2 DLC for Smash because XC2 is my absolute favorite (and for me) the best game on Switch. I completely understand their reason for the absence that they mentioned in the direct.
