A new stage, 'Snapper Canal' will be added tomorrow (6th October) at 11pm JST.
This under-construction canalway will see battle play out across both sides of the water channel intersecting it.
The low height of the area surrounding the water channel makes it is easy for ranged weapons to attack from higher ground. Whether you can skilfully dominate the opposing shore will be a key point in victory.
Take care not to panic and fall into the water.
@BLP_Software If we're doing a bit pants in Battle, can we then become 'The Dumplings'?
@Grumblevolcano Haha, oh man, I'd completely missed out on the fact you'd already posted about Snapper Canal! I didn't realise NoE were already on the ball with an English language tweet. I guess the only contribution my post made was showing how much more you could fit into a Japanese tweet than an English one.
The game kind of feels bloated with shooter weapons atm tbh.
Sealiously? If anything, there are way to little shooters if you ask me. Between the constant release of new blasters/brellas, chargers/splatlings, sloshers, rollers and brushes, I'm really missing a lot of my favourite shooters from the first games.
Why aren't there no alternative versions of the N-Zap, Squelchet and Dual Squelcher, for example?
If you ask mr, Splatoon 2 is catering way too much to the non-shooters so far.
I don't agree. I'm pretty sure that there are more types of shooter class weapons in this game than any other class. Not to mention, shooters usually do the best in this game by far.
Like it's pretty telling also that tournament/competitive wise Splattershots and its variant together account for like 25% of all weapons in a tournament. That's not also taking into account .52 gals and aerosprays.
There's definitely been a lurch towards the shooter weapons in the current metagame since the Tri-Slosher and Octobrush lost some popularity in as a result of their respective nerfs (to the Ink Jet in the latter case). I'm pretty sure shooters make up the majority of weapons available too, as well as just weapons in play.
Whether you view a third-person shooter game having a bias towards... 'shooters' as a bad thing or not is really up to you.
Personally I'm quite glad there are a few less Octobrushes and Tri Sloshers knocking around, as I just find it more fun going up against shooters. Octobrushes are commonly played as stealth weapons, whose use depends of positioning oneself to make an effective ambush. As such, encounters with them tend to be short lived. Either they turn up in front of you and swipe away, or you pick them off from afar where they're powerless to reach you.
When two shooters go up against each other, it tends to be a bit less sudden. Often the two parties will vie for an advantageous position, and there'll be a miniature sparing match where all the surfaces available are made use of.
I also quite like that chargers have become less dominant, for similar reasons. Going up against a charger can be just as binary, only for the opposite reason of them being so far away that you can't touch them until you're right on top of them.
I just find it a bit more interesting this way, really. Still, I'm not saying there's no more room for variety or improvement in the weapon lineup, so I look forward to seeing what we get.
Yeah, I'm inclined to say shooters being common is both intentional and healthy. If you have everyone using more specialised gear and trying to stay in the best position to use it, that gets a bit messy, I think.
If we're talking time zones and availability, I've put a general idea of mine in my signature. Feel free to tag me in advance if you want to play in the (British) evening; I might not respond right away, but I should see it in time.
Chargers are used less often mostly because they're not as good as they were in Splat1 and generally, most new maps so far seem to be designed for more close quarter combat.
They still have some usage and are good in some maps, but overall they're more niche.
I don't agree. I'm pretty sure that there are more types of shooter class weapons in this game than any other class.
Of course, and that's they way it should be. Splatoon in it's core is a 3rd-person-shooter, after all. All the other weapon types are the exception.
In my opinion 75% of all weapons should be shooters.
Right now, only 20 out of 58 weapons are shooters (just to be clear: chargers, blasters and nozzlenoses don't count), so there is a numerical overdominance of non-shooters.
And this concurs with my observations as most of my opponents are using sloshers, brellas, brushes, blasters and chargers. You barely encounter people who play with shooters (or Nozzlenoses, but this was always the case).
Roughly a third of all weapons is way too little, and to make it worse, every Friday they release a new non-shooter instead of releasing desperately needed alt versions of the N-Zap, Jet Squelcher, Dualie Squelcher, .52 Gal and .96 Gal. I don't get why they are neglecting shooters that much.
@shani I don't think anyone's all that surprised about the stage existing, but the fact it's coming tomorrow is pretty big news!
And Splatoonwiki classes Nozzlenoses as bona-fide shooters, for what it's worth. Of course, it's a Wikia, so "anyone can edit it" and all that, but personally I think it's fair. It's got a somewhat sporadic rate of fire, but by all other measures it's a shooter. Not that it makes much difference, given how uncommon they are to find online, but it'd bump up the number by... two.
Blasters could charitably be included in a fictitious 'Shooter-esque' category, as they've generally got more in common with most shooters than something like a roller or brush. But we're entering murky territory there. I mean, I think the Sloshing Machine plays quite a lot like a shooter in my eyes (and a blaster, come to think of it), and that's definitely in a different class to either. So I don't know. But I like the current balance, and I don't really have any problems with it being too 'shooter heavy' at all.
Also, I'm pretty sure the Dual Squelcher has been replaced by the Squelcher Duelies, so I don't imagine that'll return.
With regards to the Splatnet item, it's a bit hard to see from the image. Has it ended up with an ability it shouldn't have (i.e. one not meant to be found on tops)?
And I'm on British Summer Time/BST (GMT +1) currently, although now that summer has well and truly buggered off, that's soon drop to standard GMT.
@shani Chargers, blasters and nozzlenoses are weapons you use to shoot at people. I don't see why you'd consider them inconsistent with the idea of a "third-person shooter". You can't expect much respect for conventions here, anyway.
@Maxz Don't let 'em catch you saying "Wikia", dude. There's bad blood between Wikia and independent wikis like Inkipedia.
@Zyrac Aah man, I had no idea! So yeah, it's not a Wikia, no way! It's a... err... it's an 'Independent Wiki'. So, y'know, anyone can edit, and all that. gulp
At least, I presume so. I'm now questioning everything I ever knew about anything with 'Wiki' in the title.
Anyway, my 'Shooter+' category would include Blasters, Nozzlenoses, and Duelies if I had to make one, but I'd probably exclude Splatlings and almost certainly exclude Chargers, because sniping to me feels like a completely different sport.
It's seems pretty apparent that the Splatoon 2 is seeing fewer Chargers and Rollers in general use than Splatoon 1, and with the version 1.30 patch, the number of Tri-Sloshers and Octobrushes has dropped as well, so I can see the argument behind it being 'too shooter dominated' compared to what came before. But I wouldn't really consider it a 'problem' as I generally prefer it this way.
Nozzlenoses are definitely shooters. They just have burst fire instead of the usual continuous fire you can expect from other shooters. Other than that, they're basically identical.
Anyways, my main complaint is that at the moment the game is very much shooter centralized. At least competitively. Basically everything else not slosher or blaster is very niche or just suboptimal.
