Topic: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

@Slowdive I own literally two amiibo; the Wolf Link and Midna one, and Smash Ganondorf. Ironically the only two I ever needed, one for "DLC" in Breath of the Wild, another for a new dungeon, plus a Wolf companion.

I hate how they locked a quality of life feature, which could be a menu, behind an amiibo. It's already hard to get specific amiibo, and it's bad enough cosmetics were locked behind them.. but now they lock a gameplay mechanic behind them.

I get that it's not "needed", and that it "breaks the game", but 1) you never had to use it if it was in the game at launch and 2) It may be niche, but it can set a horrible mindset for Nintendo if the figure does well. They might consider actually doing more things like these in the future, where they lock even more substantial pieces of content behind it. It'd be alright if the amiibo came boxed in with the game, but it doesn't..

@Snatcher I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo started to get greedier with amiibo honestly. I just feel like this is unacceptable in general, but people are defending it for some god forsaken reason.

@VoidofLight Might be the case, Like hell they didn't kill the amiibo when the Wii U died, the just went on to the 3d.

I do think this is really upsetting, as someone who would love to play Skyward Sword with less time wasting bs. I just don't think its as big a deal as having it cost more than it did a decade ago.

And the simple reality is, I was there when Amiibo first came out. And for months people complained. And complained. And complained. And complained. AND COMPLAINED. Because outside of I guess Smash, the early Amiibo functionality was minor and unimportant. Just cute little extras, not any big deal. And then Mario Party 10 and Splatoon tried to change that and well...you got what you wanted. Be careful what you wish for!

That's the simple reality. I don't like the idea of blaming the consumer for stuff like this, but I promise you, people wanted Amiibo functionality to matter. And when you're Nintendo in 2015 and people are telling you why they would want your product, you do it.

I guess just be thankful that Amiibo is only sometimes mentioned in anything. After we get the last Smash Amiibo, I'm expecting this to all just disappear.

I kinda think it's brilliant that the Amiibo's QoL feature to make the game more enjoyable needs you to summon Fi who is the most hated thing in the game.

@jump It’s even more ironic how they added more dialogue to a character people wanted to shut up.

People love to go after the EA's and Activions of the world when it comes to dodgy consumer practices, but Nintendo are also pretty damn good at getting as much money out of people as legally possible. They just use different methods....

I don't like these comparisons, because it vastly understates just how bad EA and especially Activision actually are. I mean, Activision had a series of "content is locked to toys" games for years, and it barely even registered as bad by Activision standards.

Are people actually going to get the amiibo or hold out to make a point? I'm personally not one to buy any amiibo so I'm not too worried about it. It would be nice to have that QoL feature but I personally don't think it'll ruin my experience from not having it.

@Slowdive yea totally. I wouldn't have minded having it, but I'll be fine without it.

Me: comes to SS thread so that I'll have sane people that don't hate on a small quality of life addition to an amiibo

I do get the arguments that Ninty could start making this worse and agree with those sentiments however (The wolf link dungeon in tp is an example of what I think is too far) but this just honestly seems fine to me

I actually see why it annoys people. Skyward Sword could really use some QoL upgrades, so seeing a good one locked behind a 25 dollar thing is disappointing. And I do think its unavoidable to notice that Skyward Sword is 60 bucks purely because it will make them more money than it being a reasonable price increase for any justifiable reasons when looking at the gaming market at large. But I don't feel people understand that companies like EA and Activision are often so much worse than "did a greedy thing once".

The EA and Activision comparisons are not fair, because this is one of the greatest Zelda games of all time, remastered for Switch. The amiibo thing sucks but they're not going microtransactions, nor will Nintendo ever. I can't think of any EA game that comes even close to one of the lesser quality Zelda games, so their tactics will never be justified.

@TheJGG I wouldn’t say it was “remastered”, since it’s moreso been ported with a few changes. I also think it being seen as the greatest in the series is a stretch, given most of the fanbase despises it for it’s linearity.

I would say the EA and activision did much worse, stuff so comparing them is not fair whatsoever, but on the other hand, this is coming after 3D all stars, soo it could just be there anger talking.

Yeah @Snatcher I'm very sure this negativity's because of what Nintendo did with 3D All-Stars.

@VoidofLight it's a straight port, agreed. It's not my favourite in the series but it's definitely in the top three for me. Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess are also up there.

I personally don’t see Nintendo as EA or Activision, since they’re not on that level of scum. However, I still think the loft-wing amiibo is kind of scummy, but just not the same level.
