To be honest when Nintendo stops supporting child slave labour then we can say they aren't as bad as this or that company's ethics otherwise in the grand scheme of things the use of a plastic toy in a game is kinda stupid.
@VoidofLight I agree, there not on Ea or Activision's level at all, And I don't think nintendo ever will, I mean wile nintendo does some annoying stuff, they now what brings them money, and they do know how to keep this love hate relationship with the fans (though I don't think on purpose) and they do know what to do to keeps us buying stuff, But to be totally honest, EA is pure Dog food, they suck, I hate em, I mean who the hell puts ads in a 60$ video game, I mean it makes nintendo charging 60 for a remake look like a joke.

Everything is about being mad these days. I mean, I don't want to go back to the days of Nintendo Power when everything was pretty much automatically great, but it seems like modern video game journalism is just stupid clickbait and writing stories to "trigger" people and/or about "triggered" people lol
There's gotta be some kind of happy medium. I adored EGM and was so sad when that went away, but I followed most of those editors when they did 1Up.com for a little while.
@TheJGG I wouldn’t say it was “remastered”, since it’s moreso been ported with a few changes. I also think it being seen as the greatest in the series is a stretch, given most of the fanbase despises it for it’s linearity.
"Despises" is a stretch. There is no bad 3D Zelda game, they're all close-to masterpieces.
Skyward Sword is certainly one of the least popular though. Although it's also one of the worst selling, due to its bad timing (and requirement of a motion plus add-on), so that may account for part of the lower fan opinion.
Yeah, on the internet everything has to either be the best or worst thing ever. Good with a few flaws is just not sexy enough.
To be fair, a decent chunk of people here and on Nintendo places in general seem genuinely ignorant of most of non-Nintendo gaming. So if this is the worst Nintendo thing, they assume it must be the worst thing.
That's my assumption anyway
I will say, I don't think its difficult to both think this is not a huge deal necessarily, think this Skyward Sword remake had more effort put into than people are assuming and simultaneously that it should still obviously not be more expensive than the Wii version from 2011 nor hide QoL features in a 25 dollar toy that they'll make way too few of for no actual reason.
@jump Oh, I've read the article written on it. I want to save others from it. It's nothing special, basically stating that Nintendo lost their way with amiibos, and that this latest implementation is quote a "boring one". Nintendo should do better is what it comes down to.
So they aren't able to be subtle with advertising their hot take as a legit issue and they can't even manufacture outrage from it either, worst journo ever! ;p
@kkslider5552000 Hey, EA did Jedi Fallen Order, so that's not too bad.
I mean, I get it, there's always one worse than the other, but just because Nintendo isn't on that level yet (though that's an argument to be had), doesn't mean they don't deserve the criticism.
A €25 QOL feature locked behind a plastic toy for a €60 port is simply as greedy as it gets.
It should've been part of the game. For €60 you are allowed to expect a lot more QOL changes. Even if it was a €40 game, it would be absolutely fair to expect some QOL changes. As these ports/remasters barely require any work compared to actual new games. The problem is that this feature isn't even available digitally, so it can sell out. It probably is already sold out. So you have essentially limited DLC (I'm more hesitant to call it a patch, because in any other game this would be a free update), unless you're willing to pay a scalper. And it's not like the billion other Zelda amiibo do anything in this game. Not even the Skyward Sword Link amiibo. No, they want you to buy a new amiibo for every game, and they will lock some feature behind it, just to sell you another piece of plastic that is going to end up in a landfill 20 years from now.
Yeah I get it, EA and Activision are bad, but Nintendo, whatever they are doing, are in a hurry to catch up to them. With Skylanders at least the game was new, and it either wasn't full price, or it came with a bunch of toys IIRC. Either way, I'm glad the toys-to-life fad has died, I'm just waiting for amiibo to follow.
When did anyone want to return to the sky in SS? Nobody did. I wonder how many ppl actually thought this through. I mean it's stupid or greedy, whatever you wanna call it, but it's not even close to being a quality of life thing anyone is going to miss lol.

I agree. It's basically just a Amiibo locked Ooccoo which was a feature I never used in Twilight Princess even though it was part of the game. It's also pretty much what a lot of these Amiibo features tend to be generally. Novel enough that if you have the Amiibo you get a bit of a kick out of using them but small enough you're not missing out on anything if you don't.
Speaking as someone who has probably ~30 Amiibo, I don't think I've ever really used them in game. Even the game exclusive ones that "did stuff" it's usually not really worth bothering. Honestly I think the only Amiibo usage I got much enjoyment out of was the Wolf Link Amiibo usage in BotW. And even that was "oh that's cool" .... before playing the rest of the game without it.
edit: well that and the Amiibo caravan in Animal Crossing: New Leaf
@JoyBoy You have to return to the sky a fair number of times, being able to do it at any moment instead of finding a save point first is an improvement. Any modern game would do it that way, but somehow this wasn't yet possible on the Wii (just like saving at any moment).
I don't think that the amiibo thing is really a huge deal. I think Nintendo fans are just becoming less tolerant of Nintendo regarding dumb business practices. They've really done nothing to show that they have any respect for their consumers lately.
@Octane Nah, I'm pretty sure that's not true. Not in between or anything, I might misremember of course. Mind you, I understand that you return to the sky every now and then, but that's when you're done with whatever you were doing on the ground. I don't think I've ever thought, playing this game, "where the heck is that statue? I wish I could get out of here instantly" We have all seen tons of complaints about SS, was this one of them? I don't think so. Legit curious btw
@JoyBoy There are a bunch of quests where you have to take that robot thing to certain items on the ground. Those treasure cubes. If you're doing everything, there's a fair bit of traveling back and forth.
Figured I'd drop my two cents here since the forums normally tend to be more sane than what often occurs in the comment sections on the main site these days.
While I agree that the amiibo is overpriced (though still gorgeous) and that it's crummy that a small yet neat feature is locked behind buying it, I don't feel like it's a big deal. Yeah, pulling an Ooccoo whenever you want would be nice, but I never recall feeling frustrated about having to trudge to a save point to take to the sky. To me it's more of a "Nice to have", not a "This is absolutely necessary". The game functions fine without the small QoL feature. If we were talking map sizes like in, say, Breath of the Wild, the outrage would make a lot more sense IMO.
Really, the only thing that I find irritating about the whole deal is that I've been unable to secure a preorder so far. These always seem to go up when I'm at work or busy and sell out in minutes.
Honestly if that's indeed the only amiibo function I'll be more disappointed, because it would've been cool to get up to five random items or treasures by scanning random or Zelda-series amiibo every day. With the game having that focus on treasure and materials, it would make it a nice convenience.
With it being just that one amiibo supported, then the amiibo function on the menu is about as useful as the e-reader battles in pokemon games.
@Tyranexx
Yea, I mean, really it's not that big a deal for what it does in-game. I'm on the fence about buying the amiibo or not. It does look really cool, and I know my daughter would like it. I might buy it and then never even use it with the game lol
That's a very wise view @Tyranexx. I'm a bit confused as to where I stand, at least before reading your post, and now I feel more or less the same. I'm not gonna get the amiibo, but that's fine, because I can just play the game without the additional feature. Nice feature but... it's a convenience rather than a quality of life improvement.
Look I'm just going to pop in and say this, People like to talk about how it wasn't a feature in the game in the first place...But you know what wasn't? Amiibo support! They should have just kept the game the same with no changes whatsoever, and ok I will agree on the front that its sort of a cheat code, fine, but why do I have to pay 25$ for it, and if I miss it there is no way to even use the feature, I really would have rather'd spending a buck or two for the the add on.
