@Zuljaras @Anti-Matter has played this for well over 100 hours (last time I checked). He'd mention a problem if he found one.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@gcunit I doubt if someone will notice if there was day 1 update after the physical release or the version of the physical release was older than the current one at the time.

They wil update the information about Portal Knights games frequently. They said if the latest update version 1.4.3 (Will added with Creative Mode & new things) for console versions (Switch, ps4 & xbox1) will be soon in this year.

Don't worry about Physical retail / Digital download of Portal Knights. I had played for the first time on Switch version, it started with version 1.2.0, i updated into version 1.2.2 at that time and No bugs. Frame rate drops only happen in the crowded place with a lot of trees, but it won't impact with the gameplay.

One thing, the Steam, PS4 & xbox1 version running on 60 fps, while Switch & Mobile version (IOs & Android) running on 30 fps. Even running on 30 fps, the loading time is still pretty fast, depend on your World size (Bigger size = longer Loading time).
I found that playing on 30 fps felt Naturally than 60 fps.
So far i have played, there was NO Save Corruption happened because the game will did AutoSave frequently (You will see some white squares circling around at the Bottom Right corner, that was mean the game was being Saved by AutoSave features).

No need to worry about those issues above. Update version 1.3.5 fixed some issues above. Later, update version 1.4.3 in the future will fixed some issues after update 1.3.5. Just grab the game, updated it from internet and you can play it without worrying the serious issues.

The first time you play, it will start with version 1.2.0. The game will ask you to update into version 1.2.2 before 17 May 2018. On that date, They announced the update version 1.3.5 for Switch has already out. So, if you update the games after 17 May 2018, you will get the version 1.3.5.

@Anti-Matter Ok. Thanks for the info. I know that the updates fix the issues. I wanted to know about the base physical game if it is FULLY playable without any updates right from the cartridge.

Just in case I asked the same question on the official forums of Portal Knights.

Anti-Matter

@Zuljaras
The game itself still playable on version 1.2.0, but you will miss a lot of things (New features) if you don't update it.

Zuljaras

@Anti-Matter That is good to hear. I do not know if that corruption bug is happening only with split screen or just by playing more than an hour without pause. But it is nasty to think they will release it physical (set in stone).

ACK

@Zuljaras Not sure if this has been mentioned, but keep in mind Switch allows you to create a local party and match game versions amongst several users. This can be particularly helpful in games like Portal Knights to play locally on multiple Switches without having to each download updates to matching versions. Or if a friend or whoever has limited internet access.

It's a great convenience for games which update regularly (especially Rocket League for us)... Extremely underrated feature, I say.

@ACK Oh yes I have read about that but I do not know how it works with one cartridge. If it works at all. Lets say I have 2 Switches but only one cartridge. I have fully updated game on one of them.
I have used the cartridge on both in order to get the game icon.
Is it possible to make the local party and transfer the updated data to the Switch that do not have it?

I do not know people that own a switch near me so I cant test it

ACK

@Zuljaras Yes, it works exactly like that across both physical and digital. The only requisite is that the game has been inserted/downloaded on each Switch. I believe you can even update 7 or so at once.

All you have to do is press '+' on the game icon and choose 'Match version across users' or something similar. One person creates a party/lobby and once the others join the host simply presses a button to begin the process and wait. Really simple and convenient.

Ordered the game and I hope it arrives tomorrow. I have the feeling that I will spend many hours in it.

OFFTOPIC: @ACK Have you tried this personally with just one cartridge and 2 Switch consoles (the transfer of the updates without the internet connection) ?

ACK

@Zuljaras Yes, I have. We do it quite often, actually. It's very simple, though some updates take awhile if they are bigger.

To be clear, it works exactly the same whether you have one cartridge across two systems, one digital/one cartridge, or simply two digital. The only necessary factor is having the game icon on both Switches to begin the process.

Saves data, time, etc... And ensures you will always be able to match versions for local multi and such no matter the scenario.

@ACK I sense that there is quite a misunderstanding on my part.

I hope the mods do not get mad because I want some offtopic clarification on this game specific thread.

So I see that you mention only multiplayer games. I want to do that with ALL kind of games.

Here is my big question:
I have 2 switches that are able to share update data. I have just one physical cartridge of a game, let's say Wolfenstein 2. It is only single player game. I have SD cards in both Switches that are empty.

So I put the cartridge in one Switch and download the HUGE update from the game that is required in order to play the game at all. The cartridge creates the shortcut of the game on the home menu.

Then I put the same cartridge on the second Switch without internet. I pair both Switches and select both icons although the cartridge is missing from the first Switch. And I get just the HUGE data from it and on to the second switch without internet at all.

So this is the big question. Could that work or people need to have a copy of the game at all times!?

I want to use this method to just move update data from one switch to the other because the SD card once used on a Switch console it is bound to it and I can't just use one SD cad on multiple Switches.

Sorry for the offtopic and the misunderstanding! I hope I understand you correctly there!

@Zuljaras No worries, I have understood, and understand you want to be certain before leaping. I never intended to imply multiplayer games, only that those situations is the most common utility. (A few weeks ago some friends and I planned a campfire MK8D tourney, but two of my friends were not up to date and this feature saved the night.)

So, the answer is yes. It should work for any and all games, multiplayer or not. I did it with Doom for a friend who didn't have the bandwidth to download the day one + multiplayer update. He didn't have his cartridge with him either, worked like a charm. We are a two Switch household, so we've also done it with Xenoblade 2 and BotW across one cartridge. I promise it works.

@ACK Thank you! Very much. Here in my country I have yet to know a person that owns a Switch so I could test this thing myself.

Now back on topic. Tomorrow I will get my copy of Portal Knights and play it at work.

Matthew010

@Anti-Matter Please help me understand this game. I tried playing it or a bit the other day, but I don't get it. Once you have entered a portal to go to a new level, can you go back to the previous one? I just don't really understand the game.

Matthew010

Anti-Matter

@Matthew010
Yes, of course.
To go back previous portal or go to another portal, you HAVE to discover first the world that you entered.
Just press X button, press R button, select the world you want to enter.
You can also use Touch screen to go to another portal. Just tap the lower box with X button symbol, tap Map icon on Middle Upper , slide the screen to choose the world, tap the world you want to enter.

Btw, have you updated your games to version 1.3.5. ?
It has some New contents , Adventurer Mode. You can see World 1-03 , Fort Finch has been remade after Update 1.3.5. (Added with New NPCs, New items, New quests, etc).

And soon, all console version (Switch, PS4 & Xbox1) will get a HUGE Update (Creative Mode, New Villains, Unlimited Water source for Creative Mode, etc) , so better you keep your eyes peeling from Portal Knights Twitter.
