Even on the Switch alone, Indies includes Fast RMX, Rocket League, Thumper, Stardew Valley, Oxenfree, Wulverblade, Graceful Explosion Machine, Thimbleweed Park, Neurovoider, Gorogoa, Tumbleweed, World of Goo, Mantis Burn Racing, Golf Story etc. Go further afield and you hit classics like Bastion, Hotline Miami and Papers Please.
When somebody says they're not interested in Indies they're casually dismissing thousands of games across all types of genres including some stone cold all-time classics because of the size of company that made them.
"The Wii U was always advertised as a console for which one person/party could watch TV, while another individual who wanted to play games could be sitting in the same room and play a Wii U game on the Gamepad. I don't remember it being advertised any other way.x
Indeed, and straight away you hit on what a confused mess it was. Their adverts in the UK got banned for giving the impression all Wii U games could be played Off TV. Yet one of Nintendo's big launch games was Nintendo Land. The other launch game that got a bundle was ZombiU. 5 months after launch the big game was Lego City Undercover. 4 months after that Game and Wario. One of its signature games is Splatoon. In other words, it was false advertising.
@electrolite77 I mean, the games can be played on the Gamepad while people are watching/doing other things on the TV. I remember having absolutely no confusion about this at all. It was very clearly advertised by Nintendo from what I remember.
I have no idea what the list of games you posted after that had to do with anything.
@electrolite77 Um... No? When I was playing Breath of the Wild on the Wii U, I put it into portable mode sometimes and played it solely on the Gamepad screen with no problems.
I skipped out on the Wii U because I saw a handful of good games but not enough to justify a console purchase. With the Switch, on the other hand, I saw enough good games to justify a purchase in that January presentation alone. The difference is striking. The problem is that the Wii U had some games but not enough, and people want to see those games paired with a stronger lineup.
As for porting every single Wii U game ever though? That's laughably unrealistic. I don't doubt that a lot of the Wii U's lineup will be poached but they're going to most likely retain some exclusives until it comes time for Wii U VC. Personally, all I want at this point is Splatoon 1 (primarily just the single player campaign, which they may be able to add to 2 as DLC) and Captain Toad. There's nothing further I want out of the Wii U at this point.

I think he meant it was advertised as off tv play but you couldn't do it with all the games. Even the early first party games didn't support it. Example splatoon zombi u. NintendoLand
Partially false advertising
@1UP_MARIO@MarcelRguez I don't think it's false advertising because some games did infact use it, like Wind Waker HD, Virtual console games, and lots of other games. It's like advertising the 3DS can play games in 3D when not all games can infact be played in 3D. They never advertised you could play say Nintendoland on the Gamepad, just games you actually can.
I see, so they didn't end up making every game compatible with the feature. That is certainly something Nintendo should have taken care to make available in every game. However, we know how Nintendo is. sigh
Edit also the 3ds was all about the 3d in its games at launch. It's only in 2015/16 I think they released a lot of non 3d first party games
They started downplaying the 3D on the 3DS long before that. Just look at Pokemon X/Y which were released in 2013. 3D was only available in battles, IIRC. It wasn't available for most of the game.
@1UP_MARIO But NintendoLand is still never seen on the gamepad without there being a TV in the background. All the scenes shown on the gamepad are actually from the game. I do agree it is a bad commercial but to the point of false advertising, I don't think so.
As far as I know at first even for third parties it was forbidden to release games without the 3D effect on the 3DS so at first ads for the 3DS were honest. I would have preferred if they weren't, the 3D effect was uninteresting for me but it is because of it that Golden Axe have never been released on 3DS. And if only Golden Axe was on the 3DS I would really love my 3DS. As it is it has some reasons that makes me like it, but there is always something missing, something that prevent me from completely love it and the thing I miss is a port if Golden Axe.
I would have been much more into 3DS and therefore I would have bought much more games for it if that game was available. Sometimes even a simple VC game can make such a big difference.
I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee
That would almost be like bringing every single exclusive game for all of their other consoles over to the Switch too...it would be nice to see some collections of Zelda, Mario, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Kirby and possibly some of their other franchises, but I doubt they would ever want to switch every Wii U exclusive over, and it's basically for the fact that they could still get money for the Wii U games...even if someone comes into the console late. Some games could work, and I could see them re-releasing some to get more money out of it (Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World and Captain Toad could work), but it would all depend on if they do...plus, some of the games mentioned are only $20 on Wii U...if you look, when Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze comes out for Switch (granted they added a few additions), they're charging the full $60 cost again. I know nintendo rarely ever marks their games down in price (which I never get why, but I figure it's money hungry), it's still a $40 difference.
I guess, what I'm trying to say is, it would be like very console in the generations, being backwards compatible with the companies other consoles. Imagine the Switch being compatible with Wii, Wii U, Gamecube, DS, 3DS, Gameboy, Advance, Color, Virtual Boy, N64, Super NES, NES...everyone would wait for the next console, hoping for one to be better. It would be nice, but it also wouldn't make sense in a business-sense.
I'm actually certain every single retail released, first party Wii U game will be ported. It's just whether they will all be on Switch or if they will save some for waaaaay in the future. (if they do a Galaxy HD thing on Switch for example, I could see them holding onto 3D World and NSMBU for a future console quite easily)
Some Wii U games are probably never getting ported, like Nintendo Land and Star Fox Zero. They both needed the GamePad too much that without it, they don't play the same, if at all.
That said, I loved my Wii U a lot, but a lot more people should be able to play the great games that did come from it, like Xenoblade X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions, in an updated form.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
I can't see them doing every single game. There are some that had a really poor reception and sold poorly, such as Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, that are probably best forgotten.
Anything that's any good and won't be borked by the loss of the second screen will do nicely though.
@trevor7428 Porting all of the Wii U games would be a massive endeavor and is not really needed. There are some great games I would like to see ported, like Pikmin 3, Xenoblade X, Mario Maker and the HD Zelda remasters, but every single game on the system would be redundant and unneeded.
