@MarcelRguez It would've given the idea that Nintendo hadn't learned anything from the Wii U era. Those kind of length gaps were common during the Wii U era, even after the launch window.

More people should have supported the WiiU to begin with. When you've already been playing Mario Kart 8 for 4 years, 100% completed DKTF, bayonetta 1&2 and countless others it would be preferable to get new versions instead of ports. I'll be disappointed if there isn't a brand new Smash, especially after dropping a ton of cash on DLC. A "deluxe" version would be a cop out. And then what? Wait another 5 years for a sequel. Want to play WiiU games? Hmmmm, there is a console dedicated purely to that. It's called the WiiU.

The Wii U had a few good games, but I was really waiting on games like a sandbox Mario, Metroid Prime 4, and a main series Kirby game to really seal the deal and they just never made it. Gee, I wonder where I can find games like that?

I don't see your point here. I've got a switch. And a WiiU. I'm not crying about lack of games for the WiiU. It's time is done. New games please

The point is that the Wii U's lineup wasn't enough. People wanted to play those games, but they also wanted them paired with a stronger lineup with a larger variety of games, the Wii U had too many lineup holes (such as the IPs I mentioned). So they'd rather buy it on a console that gives them much more of what they want.

In my case, I was waiting pretty much all generation for the Wii U to have a 2017-esque lineup and it just never happened. I did see a handful of games that I wanted, but not enough to justify buying the console and then by the time they had anywhere near enough they were already phasing out the Wii U for the Switch. Meanwhile with the Switch I saw more games I wanted in that January presentation alone than the entirety of the Wii U's lifespan, the difference is completely striking. So I went with Switch and now have no reason to get a Wii U.

I said main series Kirby game. Rainbow Curse isn't main series, it's a spinoff. Main series is more in the vein of Return to Dreamland/Triple Deluxe/Planet Robobot/Star Allies, the Wii U never had a Kirby game like that.

@Harmonie Nice to see someone who shares my opinion as well! Though we're definitely in the minority unfortunately.
