@Pho
The framerate has quite a few drops and has trouble keeping 30fps in relatively simple areas, and tends to stutter a lot when turning the camera, but as you start to explore the larger areas things get worse especially in towns, there's also apparently a data leak bug which means things can get worse the longer you play and you need to reset the game to fix.
it can get to the point where it just feels bad to play even when walking around, theres also a bunch of weird visual jank such as npcs running at a much lower framerate. theres a scene early on in a classroom and and the framerate of several of the npcs looks like its in the single digits.
(this is playing on switch hardware in handheld mode)
i didn't encounter any of the major bugs like falling through the scenery in the few hours i played but did have moments where the game would briefly pause and other times when the camera would clip through the ground.
as mentioned in the review comments i do feel like there is a genuinely good pokemon game buried under it but for me the technical aspects just made it feel not that fun, which is the disappointing part for me.
Alright y'all, anyone got a Malicious Armor extra for me to trade for an Auspicious one? I went with Scarlet because I like all the exclusives EXCEPT for Armarouge more 😅
Ceruledge is just too cool to not have on a team.
My Duckie starter just reached its final form. I dont even.
It doesnt stop dancing ever... I cant bare to look at this animation I am about to restart because of it lol.
@Hayter which will you switch to? I'm near evolving my cat again and kind of dreading the final form; I don't 100% hate it but it's a bit disturbing. Fuecoco at least stays an animal but I'm not a fire pokemon fan personally. The duck is definitely the most freaky.
@FishyS I honestly think the grass final form is the only one I can stand looking at. Fire one is pretty cringe as well. But the game isnt good enough to warrant a restart. I will probably just replace my duck with another water type.
As I see that you are playing the game could you tell me if you find a Pokemon cemetery area in the game in any form. As you know every Pokemon has it in some kind but from what I have been researching (watching videos) I can't find it or maybe there is none at all.
Started the game there and proceeded to circumvent all social interaction for the next 8 hours, getting both the first Gym done and the first Titan defeated.
First things first....yeah it's REALLY laggy. Not all of the time mind you but man there are definitely points where it feels like you're wading through molasses just for having the gall of exploring in a open world game. It's definitely not as bad as I imagined it would be but I'm not going to sit here and tell you it doesn't exist because....oh does it absolutely exist.
Right: now that my only big complaint is out of the way, let's get to the GOOD stuff.
Dear god I don't think I've ever spent this much time not doing the story objectives (PLA included!). Paldea is so damn vast with very little (if any) restrictions on where you can go and you want to explore every nook and cranny available to you because by do they hide the coolest stuff in there (won't spoil anything here but there was a certain something near the beginning of the game that I accidentally stumbled upon and my god did I think it was the coolest thing ever). I already want to go back even after spending 8 hours combing the first couple of areas: that's how good it is.
I am so invested in the characters right now. The stories seem disconnected (though it's still up in the air whether they'll remain that way or not) but god the characters are so interesting and/or plain fun. Nemona is your typical starting rival (Hop, Hau, etc.) but waaaaaay more peppy and also A CHAMPION?! THE F***?!, Clavell is either going to be our saviour or the catalyst for what's to come and I'm still unsure on how to read him and Arven. ARVEN BRO. You're telling me that not only is he abrasive as s***....BUT IS ALSO SADA/TURO'S SON?! THIS GAME IS WILD DUDE.
The music, as you'd expect, absolutely BANGS. Personal favourite highlights include Arven's Battle Theme, the Wild Pokemon Battle Theme and Gym Leader Theme (which, along with the Wild Battle Theme, has such godly dynamic music it isn't even funny).
Lastly, the new Pokemon roster so far has been absolutely excellent: Paldean Tauros is real and I couldn't be happier, pre-evos for Grafaiai and Bellibolt was such a great surprise, Nymble definitely feels like it's going to evolve into something amazing (while still being very cute in it's own right) Flamigo is both one of the stupidest Pokemon ever made....yet also absolutely perfect (seriously: this thing will MESS YOU UP) and I've only had Tarountula for a day but if anything happened to him I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.
Sorry for this turning into one hell of a gushy text vomit, I'm just really enjoying it so far and cannot wait to continue on over the coming days (I get two days off from school next week and I guarantee you: most of that time will be spent on this game).
I do want to ask one question though: who hurt the person who wrote Mudbray's Scarlet dex entry because like....eww.
@Kermit1Pineapple I really hope there is. In Sword and Shield they added one in the DLC but here the world is so much bigger so I hope you can find something on your journeys!
@Kermit1Pineapplethe what.
(don't worry by the way: I had heard rumours of a dolphin mon before release and thankfully still don't know what the hell it even looks like )
