@Kermit1Pineapple Since you're already playing, mind if I ask how the performance is? I was looking forward to picking it up tomorrow but seeing some of the crazy performance issues online has made me stop to reconsider.

@Pho It's not as bad as you see online those are just very select moments in the game. It's 100% worth picking up and there will be patches soon for the game to fix some of the glitches.

@Kermit1Pineapple Thank you, I still want to play it so I'm still thinking of picking it up.

I am now 4 badges, 3 Legends and 2 Star Hideouts in, so... halfway done? The game has a really big problem in my opinion - its lacking a soul.

Every single iteration, even the bad ones, had Nintendo charme all over them and they were oozing with life and love. S/V is just a soulless open world where they said "hey lets try to do arceus, but just not as good" and if that was the goal they succeeded, because this is surely nowhere near the quality of Arceus. I mean I am playing S/V but I dont feel anything, I literally just press buttons and want to get it over with and thats a really bad sign. Filling up the pokedex is fun as always and I will do it, but boy it sure feels like a trash game having me battle against big giant cars that have pokemon sitting on them. And whoever thought it was a great design choice to have me "roll an olive" or "win an auction" as an arena challenge, needs to be out of their job asap.

I still think that if someones in the situation that they dont own any Pokemon games for Switch and they are wondering which ones to get, LetsGo and Arceus are the only valid answers.

@Hayter I both agree and disagree with you. Ya it does feel very soulless but I think that's because of the lack of style like Arceus had.

Arceus had a very painterly like style which made the graphics and areas work more.

S&V feels like every mainline game but huge and janky.

I think GF needs to take longer making games, that's why we have DLC and things to tide us over until the next big thing.

Yay, Nintendo life has spoilers on the main page. Hopefully they don’t post more as I accidentally looked at one or two considering I don’t plan to get the game for another month or two.

hello

Araquanid

this is so unplayably bad on the framerate LOL

Its unironically so bad I still have hope because there's absolutely no way they don't fix it in a patch this just cannot run without burning the switch's CPU.

I'm about half way there, I have not had smooth framerate on docked or handheld switch for more than 5 minutes.

At this point i just want to complete the game already so i can have smooth framerate in battle stadium..

Anyone know how to evolve Surskit in Violet? In past games the guides all say it auto-evolved at level 22 but my level 23 surskit doesn't seem interested in evolving.

  • From what I've seen of the exclusives, I'm definitely team Scarlet now. Sorry, but I like Tyranitar and Hydreigon too much.

Yeah me too however I looked at the leaks a week or two ago and saw Tyranitar was in Violet so I ordered that one only to find it's a Tyranitar variant and Tyranitar proper is in Scarlett only. Bloody annoying!

Oh my god I've just realised something: a game with a myriad of bugs and performance issues that a lot of people still really enjoy despite it all? This is the Pokemon equivalent of Deadly Premonition.

Had my first multiplayer session with my sister. Worked great. We discovered that there are Toxels near the first town before the big city on another side of the cliff. I caught one by throwing my Pokémon on the other side and once the battle ended, I noticed it had teleported me there too. Speedrun strats, baby! My sister soon followed suit.

We had a blast catching many different Pokémon that we probably weren't supposed to be able to catch quite yet. I had a look at the map and it seemed like we could've maybe even gone around the city and entered it from the wrong side. Not sure about that. I had to leave the area as I was out of Pokéballs and my sister did the same once she got herself stuck somewhere.

I had just entered the city for the first time before we started to play while she hadn't been there yet. Now I wonder if I should see how badly the game breaks if I return back there and try to go as far as I can or if I should just play the game normally. I doubt it's that big of a skip since the Pokémon there were mostly level 20-25 but I'm still curious.

Anyone else happened to do the same?

@Fizza So if this one is Deadly Premonition what does that make all the other buggy glitchy Pokemon games from the last decade then?

Afaik the really bad stuff only happens if you play the game for hours without turning it off at all. Saves me some headaches, I guess, cause I won't be doing that myself. The worst thing I've had happen so far is the camera glitching under the environment for a moment after a battle.

I'd say so far the worst offenders here, visually, are the pop in and the textures on the environment. Performance could be better (WAY better) but it's not halting to crawl at any point, yet, the characters and pokemon themselves look damn good tho. It's clear what they focused on. You can see individual scales on Fuecoco, the fur looks like actual fur, the clothes are textured...makes me wish at least the ground textures followed suit.

The actual design of the areas so far - like..how they slope, the hills and even the vegetation to a certain degree - is honestly really good. But the two main issues with the overall graphics kind of throw a wrench in what is otherwise already a well designed region.

That all said tho..i definitely agree with the people who say those clear issues don't drag the game down as far as fun goes. I enjoy my time so far a lot.
Also, gotta love getting female starters. I managed to get myself some fuecoco eggs for the other two starters, if anyone wants a crocodile I'd be down to getting more, too. Don't really want anything for it either, unless someone can get me the armor for Ceruledge/the Violet megaman-at-home

That’s because the game doesn’t have a real overarching storyline like previous games had. Even Legend Arceus had one.

That’s why people ( including many reviewers ) feel/felt a bit lost in this game.

This is weird. Online guides say Sprigatito evolves at level 16 but mine didn't evolve until level 17.

Maybe there's a glitch / new mechanic that people aren't aware of?

At least 2'8".

I loathe open world games where the ground being at a very slight angle defeats the player!
