@jump The Abilities were cut because all of the other systems interfered with them. Adding them back would mean they'd have to change the battle system for Legends again so that they could incorporate them, getting rid of the conflicting things.

@VoidofLight OR Game Freak were in a rush and couldn’t be arsed to animate them in time for the games release and they have cut and brought back features many times before. Thank god you aren’t a video game designer as you would not make games past the Pong era for being too complicated to play.

Don’t get me wrong I’m impressed with what Game Freak have done with the game but they are know for short cuts and half measures to the extent I was expecting them game to be a broken mess on launch so I can’t blame them for finding a short cut.

@jump I have a friend into competitive, and he's even saying abilities would be a trainwreck in a game like Legends.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

jump

@VoidofLight The game is already a wreck due to stating battles and having the opponent attack three times before you can move but that has nothing to do with adding abilities back. If anything it just made the mid tier pokes weaker by not having abilities.

They could make the turn battles flow like in the traditional games.

Basing future games on this doesn't require them to carry over every single mechanic.

I just can't see them making a new generation and incorporating anything from Legends into Gen 9. Gamefreak ordinarily just goes "Hey, look, here's some new mechanics that we're only keeping in this part of the series!". Also, the reason why Abilities would be a nightmare has to do with the rebalancing of moves. They could bring back abilities, but that means they'd have to change Legend's formula so they're not redundant or overpowered.

@VoidofLight I mean there's some hope right? we got mega evolution in sun and moon.

I really do want them to keep to move system, I like how I can just switch out moves on the fly, its pretty annoying how I have to buy a TM for a pokemon to learn the move, and yes they can do that, but I want the pokemon to learn the move, and keep it in there move pool, also allowing me to pick when I want my pokemon to evolve.

@Snatcher : Choosing when to evolve Pokémon that normally evolve via level-up (or via non-item methods) rather than having to cancel each and every time is definitely a step in the right direction. It's almost crazy that it's taken this long for such a QoL change to be implemented.

There are times where I dislike the final evolution of a Pokémon and would rather keep a Pokémon unevolved with an Eviolite attached, but the annoyance of having to cancel the evolution sequence dozens of times would be intolerable, and I don't want to waste their item slot with a useless Everstone.

@Silly_G precisely! Or sometimes I want to wait till my pokemon learns a move, and every time it levels up, I need to cancel. What sucks is that the game never tells you, you can do this, I only figured it out one day when I was spamming A.

@Snatcher : If I recall correctly, most if not all of the main series games feature an NPC that informs you that you can press B to cancel the evolution sequence.

I'm no Pokémon expert.

But I imagine this game was made to test the waters modernizing the formula, without jumping in the deep end all at once. If ppl hated it and demanded the old, stale formula, they'd be screwed. But by releasing Arceus as a side game, outside of November unlike regular releases (even releasing BD/SP 2 months prior), it's marginal risk. It didn't take the holiday spot and tank their sales forecast if it didn't perform.

But assuming it is received well, and does perform, I imagine this game will be the blueprint moving forward. Not to say they won't go back to dual releases with gyms and stuff. They probably will. But I think a lot of what we're seeing here will be incorporated.

Unless they plan to keep Legends as a separate line of games, which, I'd be totally OK with. As long as they give us more of this, I'm happy.

@JaxonH I get the feeling that they'll end up making Legends into it's own separate thing, but I hope they do mix this concept with the main generational games, since it's more interesting.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

@JaxonH Its not that I'm sick of the gym's per say, its more or less i'm sick of the cliche gym's they do. Your a trainer, you go on your way to do the gym's, get badges, beat the champion. In the older pokemon games, they at least would switch it up a bit, but damn did sword and shield really nail this in, that's all you did, no adventure.

It sure didn't help that the characters had to remind you the focus on are gym badges every time something interesting was going on, Sure your a kid, but the older pokemon games still treated it like an adventure, Sword didn't do that at all, and thats what made me a little sick of the gyms, on top of that sun and moon try'd to do something different, but that pretty much failed, Legends nobles are pretty much what the totem pokemon should have been.

sorry this just turned into a rant about sword and shield, I really do like those games.

Ah I finally made it to the credits! Took me about 32 hours in total. Now on to the rest of the game…

Since I got Shining Pearl, I sad hey why not and…

Picked the Diamond clan at the end, to battle Dialga here…. But hah they did the old switcheroo on me and the final boss ended up being Palkia itself! Now that was unexpected.

I enjoyed the final boss battle, it was fun while it lasted, though I would’ve liked having a chance to send my Pokémon in.

It was fun seeing how Spear Pillar ended up… Spear-y.

Man, that Buizel sidequest can bite me. I have more than a full page of gd Buizels, and still none of them meet the quest-giver's exacting standards.

But other than the questionable sidequests, I'm having a LOT of fun with this. Going back to basics and not focusing on stupid gimmicks was such a good idea.
