I just hope they make the Contests even bigger. And take the dance part out.

I guess I will stop asking for Ghost Trick on the Switch

I don't mind the art style. As pointed out, it's quite faithful to the original. I guess the difference this time is that it's maybe a bit too faithful to the original whereas they could've gone a bit more in the direction of Sword and Shield.

I'm interested to see how this turns out but, to be honest, this is the least excited I've been for a remake in the series. I love the Sinnoh games (more specifically, Platinum), but I think they have a lot less to gain from a remake than previous entries did when they were remade. Platinum still holds up pretty well today, and I do wonder what ILCA can do to make Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl the definitive versions of these games. I hope that, at the very least, they retain some of the improvements than Platinum brought over Diamond and Pearl - most notably, the expanded Pokedex.

@Snatcher
When you see Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum DS version sold with more than $60 on Ebay or other online shop, the Switch version with $60 is the lifesaver.

So apparently, there's a woman in one of the towns in Platinum that gives you an idea for Shaymin. That character is in these remakes, despite not existing originally. It feels like this might be more of a mixture between the three games, instead of just being 1:1 remakes of the originals.

Also, Porygon-Z appears in the trailer. It wasn't obtainable in vanilla Diamond and Pearl.

Or was it?

Edit: no wait, porygon was rare, but obtainable. After you unlock the National dex.

I wonder if Giratina will appear on both Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

I remember that Looker did appear in a postgame episode of Pokemon X & Y. So there may be some possibility of him appearing in Diamond & Pearl Switch postgame. He may be of the timeline of X & Y and Omega & Alfa Sapphire. Yes, he also makes an appearance there, in the postgame too. Don't know if he appears in the Sun and Ultra games as I never completed the postgame.

Of course Giratina will be in the games (as it was in the originals). It's also likely that the expanded story elements in Platinum will carry over to both versions of the remake as other third version elements were incorporated in to their respective remakes.

And I don't know where people are getting the idea that Porygon-Z wasn't in the original games. The Sinnoh region Dex was expanded, yes, but that only enabled for more Pokémon from past generations to be catchable in the game.

The only "new" Pokémon that Platinum introduced were the alternate forms for Giratina, Shaymin, and Rotom. Absolutely nothing else.

@Silly_G "unobtainable" doesn't meant it didn't exist. For example, Electrivire and Magmortar were created for Diamond and Pearl, and exist in the games as pokemon you can use, but you could not get one normally in the games (you had to connect with other games to obtain these pokemon families).

As I mentioned in my edit, I was mistaken, Porygon is completely obtainable in Diamond and Pearl, and by extension, Porygon-Z was available by default too by using just Diamond and Pearl. (though you still need to beat the game first)

What Platinum did, was expand the dex to include all the pokemon made for generation 4 (excluding mythicals and some legendaries), and made them available during normal gameplay/before beating the game.

@Eel : I stand corrected. I completely forgot about Electabuzz and Magmar not being obtainable by normal means, but I spent perhaps more time than most scouring the GTS for the Pokémon that I needed (Pearl was the first time I had completed the Pokédex). Magmar and Electabuzz (among others) required specific GBA cartridges to be inserted in to the DS or DS Lite to obtain certain Pokémon in the wild, which was mildly annoying as I only had LeafGreen and Emerald. There was also Pal Park which allowed Pokémon to be transferred from the GBA carts (which was great as I exploited the cloning glitch in Emerald and used the resultant legendaries as currency).

Sheesh. After doing a quick search, I thought the evolution items would have been obtainable via normal gameplay in Diamond/Pearl as well, but apparently not (for example, you need to have a LeafGreen cartridge inserted in order to catch Magby in the wild, and they have a slim chance of holding a Magmarizar, which can only be used by trading a Magmar holding it).

Electivire and Magmortar were also obtainable in Pokémon Battle Revolution, which could then be sent to the DS games, so, there was that too, but man, what a headache Gen IV turned out to be. And I thought the ridiculously sluggish battles/encounters were bad, but my rose-tinted glasses made me forget about all of its other problems.

In what I assume is a fairly controversial opinion after reading some of the posts in this thread.... I actually liked the look of these more than the Legends game.

The Legends game has potential but I reserve judgement, first impressions were that the world was relatively empty and VERY choppy. Obviously we're a good year off but this early first look doesn't have me reaching for my wallet. The D/P remakes are pretty much what I'd want to see in a remake. Of course it's a safer project but as it is I'm fairly happy with what they showed. If it was out now I'd buy the D/P remakes on what they've shown.....

The Pal Park... Perhaps it could be tied to Pokemon Home or Go as an extra option to play with the transferred pokemon. If they don't transform it into something completely different.

One other possibility for Pal Park, what if they released the GBA Pokemon games as part of NSO and pushed connectivity between them and the D/P remakes as one of the selling points? Even if the middle ground between the two is Pokemon Home.

That would be cool, but doesn't seem like something they'd do. Imo.

@Silly_G:
The gracidea lady being there gives me hope that these will have the extended Sinnoh dex and distribute the pokemon a bit better like Platinum did, and maybe some other things from Platinum too.

(and yeah getting these magamarizers and electrizers was really annoying!)

Edit: an odd random detail I just noticed: These are the first remakes that don't give new designs/clothes to the main characters. Even the poketch is still there (which makes me happy to see it'll come back in some way).

In respect to Pal Park, I suppose they could allow connectivity with Let's Go and Sword/Shield save data so that one can perform a one-way transfer (without the need for HOME), but I also can't see them incorporating all Pokémon obtainable in the currently available Switch games.

I think they'll be limited to the Sinnoh Dex sort of like how Let's Go was limited to the first 151 (plus Meltan/Melmetal and Alolan/Mega forms), not even the 493 strong National Pokédex from the original Gen IV games.

@Eel : I really hope that Manaphy/Darkrai/Shaymin/Arceus (or at least some of them) will be released from Event-only hell like how Deoxys was in OR/AS.

It would be funny if it became a time machine to transfer pokemon from Legends. Though perhaps other people wouldn't find it that amusing, having to buy a separate full game just to transfer pokemon.

I'd love to have in-game events for manaphy and shaymin at the very least.
