Anti-Matter

I was thinking other thing about the Pokebank compatibility when you want to transfer Pokemons from and to Sinnoh remakes.

Yeah, I think a single way transfer would be dumb, I see no reason for it. It made sense for Lets Go because it wasn't really a "Gen 8" Pokemon game and it kinda lived in its own little bubble. It doesn't really make sense for game released in the middle of Gen 8.

Although I'll stick with my theory above about the GBA games. I do think more generally, beyond Pokemon, that putting GBA games on NSO is a very easy win. Them actually doing that AND putting Pokemon on there? I have my doubts, they could easily charge for the GBA Pokemon. But assuming they did it one way or another.... limiting transfer of Pokemon from those games through these D/P remakes? It's not the worst idea.

Although given the fanbase it's probably safer to just do nothing because there'd be less outrage over the GBA games and the transfer of Pokemon from them not being a thing at all than being "paywalled" behind these remakes

@Diddy64 Honestly, it wouldn't mess with the story much if they just had him be a main character investigating Team Plasma..

I havent read through the rest of this thread to see other thoughts, but personally, I'm very happy with what i'm seeing so far.

First off, its 1:1 to the originals, which I appreciate. My biggest fear was that DPP would turn out like let's go and force mechanics that would make it lose the feel the originals had. I never even bothered with let's go cause I don't like the catching system at all, takes away more battle gameplay.. I was also worried it'd be like sword and shield (ugly and laggy, with pokemon roaming in too tight linear spaces.) At least with 1:1, i can expect exactly what I liked about the originals.

My only worry is how theyre going to approach dexit and scrapped mechanics... reminder hidden power doesn't exist in swsh anymore, and DPP has an entire area dedicated to unown.. this can be scary if the game is like let's go in that there's no global battle/friend battle system and its incompatible with the other games (you could battle on oras against x/y players.). If this is like let's go, it'll feel isolated compared to previous remakes like LGFR, HGSS, and ORAS. I definitely can't see dynamaxing existing (thank god) due to no stadium, megas would be nice to see though.

The other problem is if this game is 1:1 to DP or even platinum and doesn't have good online or unique changes.. you might as well emulate platinum or use your old platinum and transfer up tbh lol... oras had delta episode, dexnav, x/y's PSS, it was a whole upgrade, if DPP's remaster is just aesthetics with no additions from gen 5+ added, and easier gameplay, then that's kinda yikes.

I see the main compliant is visuals and... I don't get why lmao... SWSH's visuals are hot garbage, anything is an upgrade from that steaming pile of doodoo, even x/y was pretty bland looking. This is bright and colorful, like the franchise used to be before 3d models got color washed:

If its the chibi choice, imo thats still fine, pokemon games were always chibi in the overworld and more upscaled in battle, and thats exactly what they're preserving here. I prefer either full chibi (this, sprite games) or full anime (colosseum/XD), the recent "tall bobble head" isn't really doing it for me.

They're going for full faithful to the originals here, that I appreciate. The question is how far faithful, are we going to get actual differences? Will these be playable post game with being able to actually use pokemon in battle or are they just home fodder? Do new mechanics return (megas, dyna, reusable TMs) or are they preserving the nonexistance of that too? Can you transfer stuff from SWSH to the remakes, or will it be limited to what can be found in DPP, and alternatively, would SWSH even get updated to include al the pokemon DPP has that SWSH doesn't for their use over there?

Sheesh. After doing a quick search, I thought the evolution items would have been obtainable via normal gameplay in Diamond/Pearl as well, but apparently not (for example, you need to have a LeafGreen cartridge inserted in order to catch Magby in the wild, and they have a slim chance of holding a Magmarizar, which can only be used by trading a Magmar holding it).

Switch Pro with GBA game slot oncoming!!

But seriously, gimmicks like that in obtaining Pokémon kinda withheld me to ever finish a Pokedex.

Don't forget about the RNG marsh, swarm, and trophy garden, all of which rotated random encounter tables.

I don't think there's a singular game where catching a pikachu or an eevee was this hard.

@Araquanid Hidden Power Unown, good one. Maybe these games aren't compatible with SWSH after all.

I also fully expected it go get the SWSH treatment with Dynamax and new Gigantimax forms.

I haven't played a main line Pokemon game since the original red and blue. Were Diamond and Pearl good games? If so, what made them so special? Thanks.

This was one of the more by the numbers entries, not bad but it doesn't really stick out. The region offers the usual places with nothing that stands out that much and there wasn't any major additions from what I remember anyway. Although Platinum from the same gen/third version is very well liked.

However it does introduce Cynthia who is one of the most popular Pokemon Champions from the games.

The physical/special split was arguably the biggest change to the franchise.

Definitely the biggest change before or since. Also while it doesn't really matter in the context of the remake D/P were also the first Pokemon games to have online trades/battles. Doesn't matter now because they would've had that anyways but it was a pretty big deal a the time.

For me I probably have the fondest memories of Diamond/Pearl of all the Pokemon generations outside of maybe Gold/Silver. They also happen to have a bunch of my favourite Pokemans. Really, if I honestly had to build a team of my favourites from any game? Infernape, Rotom, Weavile and Roserade will be on my shortlist. Honestly the only Pokemans that'd rate higher than these in terms of my favourites would be Dragonite.

@Snaplocket I highly doubt that. The GBA could've handled that easily. It's just another bit that tells the code to factor in the attack stat or the special attack stat. It's really not that complicated.

Octane

Buizel

@Snaplocket @Octane Yeah at it's simplest it would require one bit of data per move (0 for physical, 1 for special, or something along those lines). I doubt memory was an issue - moreso it was overlooked while the series was still finding its feet.

Thinking again about the graphics. Am I the only one who thinks the overworld looks fine, but the battles look a bit off? They seem to have gone with a simplified look over Sword and Shield (understandable given the general style they're going for here), although to me it doesn't look as polished as Let's Go. This is the part that really looks underwhelming to me (and to be honest - I though battles looked okay - not great - in previous entries).

At least 2'8".

Octane

@timleon I think that's because of the fixed battle camera, instead of the dynamic camera that was present in other games.

Octane

Buizel

@Octane I think it's more the lighting and the trainer models. Everything looks quite plastic rather than alive.

At least 2'8".

Diddy64

@VoidofLight That would be a good idea to later integrate him in a special episode with Giratina like they did with Zinia and Rayquaza in the Delta Episode of Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alfa Sapphire.

Apparently some upcoming merch strongly suggests these games will feature Mega Evolutions.

@Eel : Mega Porygon-Z please, please, please, please!!!

OR/AS also added new forms for the key legendaries (plus other megas that weren't in X&Y), so this gives me at least SOMETHING to look forward to in these remakes.

Ooh, and Mega Togekiss too.

@Silly_G apparently there's figurines based on the kanto starters mega evolutions scheduled to release in November. Which seems to be the same thing that happened with Let's Go.

Nothing said about new ones so far. Though I suppose it wouldn't make sense for them to release that information before revealing the characters.

Honestly, even if new figures are being made, I'm still not really expecting Mega's to return. Especially because it seems like this is trying to be as faithful as possible in terms of being a remake.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

Eel

The gracidea flower lady being there already destroyed the possibility of these being “faithful to a fault”. So it’s ok to think Megas have a chance.
