It's a known glitch. If you dont whack the toad right away you can't do it later. You dont "need" it but it will be missing for 100% completion.

Edit: On a separate note, im at the ice vellumental and i cannot access the vellumental pads during the boss fight. He has all of them frozen. Im seriously stumped and I don't know how to unfreeze them.
Edit 2:nevermind, I checked out a YT video. I guess I skipped the note 😛
K, I'mma say it: this is two dungeons Bobby has refused to help out in now. He totally sucks. Just a hanger-on who doesn't want to actually contribute to the team. I hope I get a new partner soon.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
Onto the green streamer. I have to be super close to finishing the game huh? Maybe 5-7 hours?
@Ralizah what you've said here is a travesty. 😜 Bobby is my favorite character in the game. He and Olivia are a good duo with mario. But your next character is a little more helpful, so you'll be good.
@Ralizah Oh I never liked him either. His fun little introduction had me hoping for a fun time, but he's been a real drag the whole time you're stuck with him.
Don't worry though. Soon things will... blow out of proportion.
Ya I love Bobby too. So far my favorite alongside Olivia. "Nah, I'm good" is part of his charm.
Just beat the ice vellumental. Very close to beating the purple streamer now and moving on to the 5th and final streamer (though there is still a world 6 pipe after that)
@Ralizah
None of the partners help in dungeons, really, with one exception due to plot. Likely because the boss fights are part of it. The partners are only good for the overworld of that particular area.
I’m at the green streamer now. Been playing for about 2-4 hours a day since launch. I’m not trying to rush or anything. And man this game is good. Honestly, I almost gave up hope the first hour. It was so boring. Everything was either dialogue or cutscene. So glad I stuck with it. It gets so good after Shroom City, my favorite area so far, even if I wish it was bigger. If I had to rank the partners so far, it’d be:
3. Bobby
2. Kamek and Bowser Jr.
1. Professor Toad
Bobby doesn’t do anything to the plot, and if it wasn’t for his death I wouldn’t remember him at all. And he barely helps out in battles, slipping most of the time.
Kamek and Bowser Jr. offered the most charm and personality than Th e other partners, and they helped in battle a lot too. But besides that, there’s nothing else to it. They’re kinda bland.
Professor Toad. Man he’s so cool. He reminds me so much of Indiana Jones, (one of my favorite movie series of all time) and he not only helps out in battles a lot, but he even helps outside of battles, reading weird writings and digging up valuables for you. I wish he was used outside of the desert area however.
@NintendoByNature yeah that boss was so hard. Because I vowed to get through the game without looking anything up, it was just trial and error to see what happens. Eventually I found out, but I wish they made it a bit more obvious IMO
In the green streamer area now, and wow! They definitely saved the best for last! The characters feel better than any of the others throughout the game, The dialogue is more witty and funny, the NPCs are more diverse, the enemies are more diverse, the environment is great too, no I won’t go so far as to say it’s better than previous areas because the previous areas had some really great environments. Still, overall it just feels like they gave 110% for the home stretch.
And those bosses tho... my goodness those bosses. So good. So incredibly good. The tape dispenser was spectacular, as was the hole puncher. They really utilize the 1,000 folding arms skill well in this game. Better than I was expecting.
I’m struggling to rate this game because, on the one hand, I feel like I haven’t been this absorbed into a game to the point I play it all day every day from the moment it launched to completion in a while, which is very reminiscent of Mario Odyssey, and in terms of fun factor I’m starting to feel like I’m having as much fun with this game as I did with Mario Odyssey. On the other hand, The game does have deficiencies in some areas and, when comparing directly to Odyssey, Paper Mario falls short in several regards subjectively. So it doesn’t feel right to say it’s as good as Mario Odyssey. But I felt Mario Odyssey was a 9/10 (with Zelda being a 10) and if this game is not quite at parity with Odyssey, then a 9 isn’t warranted. But to give it anything less feels like an injustice given how much I love it. And therein lies my conflict. I feel like it’s a 9. But comparatively speaking it’s hard to justify next to Mario Odyssey being a 9. Maybe I just need to concede Mario Odyssey is a 10, let this be a 9, and let it be settled. But that’s a back and forth for another day.
The Legend of Mario: Skyward Fold
This feels like the birth of the first Zelda-style Mario game. They Zeldafied Paper Mario. It’s more basic, but the similarities are striking. It has Korok seeds (toads), puzzles baked into the game on a fundamental level, focus on exploration, dungeons, chests, power ups obtained by competing “dungeons”, hearts to increase max health, can expand your Korok seed bag (confetti bag), it has Windwaker style streamer area, a set of wisdom/power/courage trials, ancient secrets and statues that point lasers...
This is a Zelda game as much as it is Paper Mario. And I think that’s why a lot of us are really taking to it.
@Apportal
Should probably hide that behind spoiler tags for those who haven’t played that far. It’s definitely one of the most impactful scenes in the game. Example is [spoiler]type whatever here[spoiler] but put a / before the word spoiler in the last bracket. I left it out so that you could see the formatting- had I included the / it would have hidden the inside words and the spoiler bracket text wouldn’t be visible.
Interesting choice of favorite partners. I actually like Professor Toad the least. He was pretty uninteresting overall, IMO. But I will concede he participated in battles more and had a skill you could utilize outside of battle. That was cool at least. I love Kamek and Bowser Jr though. Even more than Bobby. But Bobby is still great- I like how he calls Mario “Big M“ and Olivia “mam”.
@JaxonH ok sorry. I tried to look it up but I couldn’t figure out how to do that. And I just figured it was pretty early in the game so most people would have played it. Now I know. 😊
Also, who else got the game spoiled by Prosafia? God he’s the worst.
@JaxonH I 100% agree. I was telling hobbitgamer this really feels like a light hearted 3d zelda. Feels alot like the wind waker, especially after the boat segment. The only thing ill say was a real pain in the rear was in the green streamer area, you do a mini game that's required to progress. I dont want to say too much but thats the only section in the game that left me frustrated. Most of the "trials" are really hard to master( at least for me). And I couldn't wait to finish it to move on in that section. Not sure if you did that part yet, but when you do, im guessing youll see what I mean.
As for me, I finished off green streamer last night and im heading to the final area. It was hard for the most part. Scissors was actually the easiest boss so far imo. Had a great time with it though.
Yeah, some of the dungeons feel very much like simplified Zelda dungeons.
I don't have an issue with that.
Just got to the third desert area, which is not my favorite so far. A whole lot of empty to drive around in, whereas previous areas felt like they were hiding secrets in every corner.
Also, that bit with Bobby was pretty randomly dark. I'm going to use my dead best friend's fuse to kill myself to save my buddy from dying. Good lord! 😂
@Ralizah
I agree - I love that it feels more simplified because it fits the vibe of the whole package. It's just a fun romp to take part in, is the best way I can describe it, and that's what I usually want from games. I don't know the last time I laughed out loud so many times at a game. Most of the moments are the little dialogue boxes in the background or as other things are happening, like when you get up to Bobby and then he goes falling back down with a "whhhhhhhhy" lol Just cracked me up. The world sucks you in.
Getting ready for the last streamer today.
I didn’t like the purple streamer that much to be honest.
This game keeps surprising me and I keep coming back for more, I laugh almost all the time, the area’s keep me surprised and the little details in the environment is soooo amazing.
Didn’t think or couldn’t even dream of getting so much joy out of this game.
Im gonna say it : this game my be my favorite switch game to date!
