So, I'm just now heading into this desert area. But there's so much stuff on the map that's unexplored still, and a note said something about weapons back at the factory...
Should I go explore more? I did the two sidequests already. But I can't seem to fast travel at those machines yet.
Definitely pop over to the factory. The world isn't THAT big that traversal becomes a chore. You also get use to how fast 2B can run and do acrobatics that speed things right up. Fast travel isn't a thing for a fair bit of the beginning of the game.
I'm way out in the Desert area now, at the first save point in the dunes. Factory is a ways away.
Is this something where like, it's absolutely worth it, drop what you're doing and go, or is it something I can quickly rectify by purchasing a weapon from a shop or something to make up for it.

Hm without spoiling it's a unique weapon and has something to do with your gear from the tutorial. Don't drop anything for it, you will come around to there again via main story progress anyway. There is a lot of backtracking in the world.
Only a few hours in, but I did play this game a bit on PS4 and I have to say, at least so far, I'm impressed with how this port looks and runs. Hoping that holds up the later I get into the game.
@XenoShaun
I decided to go back. Funny thing is, I had actually gone back to the factory earlier by accident and was literally right there and didn't see the weapon. I got it now though, and the items.
@Gamer83
I watched a vid that showed one or two spots in the late game with some frame dips, but overall they were pretty isolated.

That's it. That's where the money is. This should be the default control scheme.
I'm really enjoying the game btw. Just made it to the Amusement Park and took out a boss, and am now in some machine village in a tree. I'm so glad this game came to Switch, because I just couldn't get into it on a tv-tethered console before. And as a result I gave up before it ever really got its hooks into me.
I still wouldn't go so far as to say I like it more than Bayonetta, but it's certainly up there. It's fantastic.

@JaxonH
I checked some videos before buying. I know Digital Foundry gets a lot of hate but I actually like their analysis and they were pretty positive on this port so i figured I'd give it a chance. Making progress and still not noticing any horrendous dips in performance.
Also realize, I should've played this game much more back in 2017, the combat is as fun and satisfying as a game can get. Maybe not quite Bayonetta level but damn close and has a more intriguing story. I'm starting to understand why a lot of other gamers I talk to consider this Platinum's best game.
@Gamer83
I've always appreciated the value Digital Foundry analysis offers to us gamers (let's be honest- a fair number of Switch ports are underwhelming and we need a way to separate the wheat from the chaff), I just hate the culture that's been created as a result. It's not their fault. It's just trolls and fanboys who like to use it to nitpick any little thing they can use as console war Ammo.
But ya, it's great when you find the quality Switch releases that really shine on the platform. Stuff like Nier Automata, Sniper Elite 4, Zombie Army 4, the upcoming Persona 5 Royal, Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Bayonetta 3, and judging by what we've seen, Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core. Nothing beats a well-developed Switch game that doesn't have major performance issues and maintains a solid resolution.

I just got bombarded with side Quests. Red markers all over the map. Just fought a giant Guardian again. Awesome stuff.
I love the skills and min-maxing to get the most. Evade Distance +80%, Drop Rate +40%, 2 Seconds Invulnerable After Hit, all kinds of good stuff. Reminds me of Monster Hunter skills- not exactly the same, but equally addictive.

@Eagly
I'm currently using a Movement Speed +8% which is the best I've got at the moment. Every increase becomes exponentially more expensive by 2^x but ya, love my quality of life and comfort skills.

@JaxonH exp shouldnโt be an issue later in the game there is an intentionally exploitable enemy that drops way too much exp. Also I remember if you are a completionist get item drop up chips and auto collect because there are alot of weapons that need alot of materials to upgrade them and even if you don't care you should still upgrade your base weapons and pods.
@Eagly
Already upgraded the Virtuous Contract to Lv 3, and Virtuous Treaty and Fang of the Twins to Lv 2. Haven't been able to upgrade the Pod yet. Not nearly enough materials. I do have a ton of chip storage though. Bought expansions to get it to hold 96 now. Currently using 95/96. Aside from the basics, also have Shock Wave +1, Anti-Chain Damage +3, Damage Absorb +3, Evade Range Up +4, EXP Gain Up +2, Auto-Use Item +3, Drop Rate Up +3 and Moving Speed Up +2.
Game is ๐ฅ
