Glad to hear it's a good port. I think I may have already picked this up in a Steam sale, so will probably just play it there when I get around to it, but it's good to see devs put in the effort on Switch.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

This is related to NieR Replicant moreso than Automata, but it's weird how both the remaster and the original game have songs that I prefer. Like for the remaster, I prefer area themes and more softer themes given the focus on the multiple instruments which give the piece depth, but for things like battle music I prefer the original ost because of the heavy use of drums.

Finished both games on PC and now just bought it for the Switch. I'm really glad the port ended up being great. Devs are really putting effort in it.

I bought NieR Automata Game of the YoRHa Edition last year and never got round to playing it. So I definitely won't be getting it for Switch since I haven't played more than 10 hours on PS4...

There's a big gap between Hard and Normal. If you can get past the first mission things get a lot less brutal with the restarts though.

I was advised to play the 45 minute "tutorial" section on Easy, then change difficulty afterward. But I just played on Normal, and beat the intro section last night before bed. Apparently if you die on the intro section you have to start it all over since there's no save points (hence the recommendation to start on Easy then change it to Normal after getting through that part and saving the game).

I think I may customize the controls and put dodge on a face button so I don't have to move my finger from the shoulder fire button to dodge.

The tutorial is annoying, I didn't realise it was gonna be so long and got half way before having to quit which means I got to start it over.

Huh, I could've recalled the tutorial segment being faster than 45 minutes. It's been a while since I've played though, and I would play in two hour sessions right before bed.

I'd just say to use the quick save feature whenever it's presented. I had a crash last night where the game froze and I had to restart it. I lost an hour or more in progress because there's no autosave.
No reviewers mentioned crashes so hopefully it's a fairly uncommon experience and I just got a little bit unlucky

The tutorial is pretty annoying, even on normal mode. For how long it is, I am shocked that there isn't a save point anywhere. I had to play through it twice.

Found a good custom control scheme.

ZL = Evade
ZR = Fire
R = Lock On

This way Evade and Fire, the two actions you want to do at the same time without moving fingers around, are easily accessible. Lock on doesn't need to be held, just pressed, so that's fine being on same side as Fire.

You want to die at least once in the intro tutorial for possible spoiler reasons.

I hope SE are working on getting patches out for the title though, it really isn't that good of a port and no clue how it's getting such universal praise for it. Frame rate can easily tank to single digits in certain fights. Fallen through the world at least three separate times. Audio glitches and getting stuck in animation loops (requiring reset from the switch dash). Let alone some scenery just deciding not to show up sometimes (had entire background buildings just vanish).

At least nothing game breaking has hit yet (knock on wood), but I am surprised at the amount of new bugs and problems this port is exclusive to.

I'm a few hours in and it's doing a very good job of entertaining me enough to (almost) keep me away from playing Splatoon 3 so high praise!

I've not encountered any hiccups yet, it seems to be working fine for me so touchwood it stays that way.

Im definitely getting this at some point. I hear it's actually a sequel to another game. Does it matter if i haven't played it? What's a neir anyway?

@Truegamer79 Nah, the games are mostly stand alone. There’s a few things you might not pick up on but none that that would change the experience.

Neir was the name of a character in the other game.

So, I'm just now heading into this desert area. But there's so much stuff on the map that's unexplored still, and a note said something about weapons back at the factory...

Should I go explore more? I did the two sidequests already. But I can't seem to fast travel at those machines yet.

Is this game kinda like Bayonetta or Devil may cry? It looks a little like those only you're fighting robots. I love me a good hack n slash! Im glad i can get this on switch and it's not a dumb cloud version. Speaking of which i recently ordered the PS4 guardians of the galaxy game since i Can't get it on switch without it being cloud unfortunately and im looking forward to that. I'll be checking that out in between trying nier for the first time.

@Truegamer79
It's similar, yes. Platinum Games developed it in coordination with Square Enix, so it has that trademark Platinum combat, but wrapped in an RPG shell with quests and story and leveling up.

Definitely pop over to the factory. The world isn't THAT big that traversal becomes a chore. You also get use to how fast 2B can run and do acrobatics that speed things right up. Fast travel isn't a thing for a fair bit of the beginning of the game.
