@EOTW that their approach of a zero substance video( aside from SMT), wasn't welcomed by the masses? Maybe open their eyes with not dropping a video with very little information unless you have some reveals in there? I dk, anything along those lines I suppose to avoid outrage.
@Dezzy While that's true, Pokemon and Mario will also outsell pretty much any other video game franchise, period. That doesn't make the others not true franchises. I was more curious what your cutoff was, since something like Animal Crossing or Splatoon could also outsell those four combined and you didn't list them.
@link3710 yoshi, paper Mario, Mario and Luigi, smash bros, is all part of the Mario universe. Maybe their own games but still in my world classified as Mario games.

@NintendoByNature I was more referring to the other comment I quoted when I said angry, and in general since the direct is at like 50% dislikes. @sixrings how many of the games announced for PS5 are actually developed by Sony?
Well, they seem to have several companies/ teams that do some games for them, @EOTW .... Would you count something like The Last of Us? It's still exclusive to PS4, although it's obviously made by Naughty Dog If Nintendo had more companies like that making games for Switch, it'd help a lot!
@jump The source of one of your links was "4chan" lol. I now see what you're referring to though. However, they don't appear to be the person who originally leaked the 20th date? Maybe they just piggybacked onto it and wanted to attention seek. I honestly don't know. Or maybe the stuff they mentioned is all in the works and as many of us know, internally has been delayed due to the pandemic. Who knows?
It is all pretty frustrating all round though. Personally I didn't think it was worth Nintendo's resources and time doing that Mini Direct. Those developers could have just done their own trailers and announcements. It was basically just SMT anyways.
@EOTW ok thanks for clarifying because I didn't feel my post came off as angry. I was simply stating what I saw on the YouTube channel. I get theres a pandemic, but its felt "light-ish" for a lot of people since right after pokemon released. Im personally fine as i have tons to play, but just saying.
@sixrings Furthermore, how does Sony doing well justify cancelling Nintendo? @BruceCM I agree! But Nintendo's third party game has never been particularly strong. Or at least, not for a couple generations. There are a few "second party" companies working with Nintendo, though I suppose Sony has a lot more? I actually don't know, I don't follow Sony too closely so I'm a bit out of the loop with them and the games they make lol
@sixrings Okay, but that still doesn't mean Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros, Fire Emblem and Kirby aren't all major franchises, even if you lop everything Mario/Luigi/Wario/Yoshi/DK under the same umbrella. They're all bigger than Metroid at least, and all but FE and Kirby are bigger than Zelda. Plus they do have their more casual franchises too, as I pointed out.
In fairness Pokemon will out sell a lot of 4 randomly selected recognisable franchises. Pokemon is a juggernaut on steroids.
Yes of course, but it's a bit different with Nintendo because they're the one company where people overwhelmingly buy their hardware for those key first party exclusives.
If Sony had made no Uncharted games this generation, they'd probably be fine either way. Even though people love Uncharted. But if Nintendo had made no 3D Zelda or 3D Mario game, there'd be some serious unrest among the Nintendo audience.
Yeah, I don't really follow Sony stuff that particularly, @EOTW .... I see gaming news, generally & that was one example I think the same company does Uncharted, which isn't as interesting to me. Apart from the obvious RE8 & Pragmata, which were duly announcing they'd also release on PC & XBox within minutes of the Sony show, there were some saying 'timed exclusives' & other 'console exclusives'
Sony presumably make their weird Sackboy thing but I don't know just how many wanted that. I quite liked a lot of the stuff they showed but that's all coming to at least PC as well, so that's the part I'm interested in
@BruceCM problem is Nintendo doesn’t want to have other companies with there IP’s
And releasing other ips they are rather strict on.
Most teams they own are also forced to work with the first party stuff, Nintendo is still really old fashioned with that and they should step up there game so they could release more games in a faster way.
