Were the rumors suggesting a reveal of the successor this week?
To the degree there are leaks, the leaks say (or imply) 'soon' (e.g. in weeks, not months) but not specifically this week. But this week is still very possible.
There are no rumours or leaks about the timing of the announcement. What there is are rumours, leaks and suspicion about a multitude of other things which tend to support an announcement very soon

@Grumblevolcano That's probably today's biggest announcement. If we are getting something big this week, it'll like be between tomorrow and Thursday
@skywake Most of the time the top screen is the primary one, and sometimes the other screen is just a menu/map. It's completely doable, I think it's pretty likely it will come to NSO at somepoint on the Switch Successor. Coming to the OG Switch is more questionable, I suppose it is possible but there will likely be a bit different structure when it comes to Switch 2's NSO.
@NintendoByNature Kind of, the rumours are that it is supposed to happen within the next several weeks, but some of these rumours + speculation ended up on this week being most likely for a Successor reveal. I'd say it's either this week or week of October 7th, which probably depends on if/when we're getting a Direct this quarter.
@PikminMarioKirby
Having put some DS ROMs on my phone with a phone controller grip I would argue the biggest barrier to good DS emulation on Switch (2) is not the screen. The main problem is the lack of a stylus and the differencea between capacitive and resistive touch
Mario Kart DS would be great as is. I mean it is great as is, works fine. But Phantom Hourglass without a stylus....... not ideal

Regarding the possibility of the next console being dual screen is exciting. That means in addition of the possibility of Gen 1-3 Pokemon coming to current gen console, Gen 4-5 or possibly even 6-7 may get a re-release.
I gotta be honest with that dual direct right at the end of August I'm not really expecting a September Direct. We've got a major release confirmed every month until January (except December but we're also getting console bundles) and I really don't know if they have anything else for the Switch. Third parties are still putting out great games as we saw in the August directs. Would love to be proven wrong though.
@Novamii A reimagining of those games would be a heck of a lot of work. You'd really need to go back to the drawing board and redesign the whole game from the ground up, most maps just aren't meant for being seen from anything but a top-down perspective.
I mean, I love Spirit Tracks (but please never ever make something like the Spirit Flute again Nintendo), but I can't really see it working on any modern hardware so I guess this would be the next best choice?
Frankly, I see them looking at how much work it would be and just making a new game instead.
@Grumblevolcano Did Nintendo make any other tweets that day? I think that the MK8D bundles were today’s big announcement but not sure if they’d want to announce both the same day
@PikminMarioKirby Considering American timezones, that tweet was the only one that day (the previous one was Sun/Moon demo the day before). The comment I made was more about how an announcement of an announcement may not be at the usual 2pm/3pm UK time slot.
@skywake The thing I want is two screens for the purpose of what dual screens would bring to the table for the new stuff Nintendo puts out. Sure, old games could probably make a fake second screen- but I want two so that they can make new games that use two screens.

If there is a Direct this month, the only plausible hours it'd be announced would be 9 AM or 10 AM EST tomorrow. We probably aren't seeing an announcement for it today
@PikminMarioKirby Yeah if we don't hear anything by tomorrow (or Friday at a push) then I'd even go as far as saying we won't get any sort of major announcement before the end of the month.
Something NSO perhaps but it'll be Echoes of Wisdom crazy after this week!
Can't wait for another instance of "we won't be discussing the Switch successor" to set the tone for the next alleged Direct. Bring that anticipation up to a fever pitch.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,536 games (as of December 14th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
@FishyS Not sure if I’d put a kickstarter developer saying their game is coming to the Switch successor means anything. I doubt they have a dev kit because if they did, they’d be under NDA so wouldn’t say anything about the Switch 2.
