@PikminMarioKirby Apparently the announcement tweet of the Switch back in 2016 happened at 1:30am here in the U.K. So who knows how or when it would drop.

I really want a direct to happen just cuz this week has been boring for me and I want something to do lol. Direct rumors seem to be ramping up lately since everyone has been pointing out that we should have gotten one by now and we haven’t yet. I wonder if they will break tradition this one time and just not have a Direct in September at least for this year. That’ll be a bit shocking, but with that Indie/Partner dual direct a few weeks ago, eh I don’t know, it really made me doubtful that they would follow it up with a general Direct. Guess we’ll just wait and see what they’ll choose to do!

The weird part is that the partner direct and Indie direct were moved up a few weeks, instead of being slotted for the scheduled time of the normal September direct.

@FragRed As for a general Direct I don’t think it’ll be announced outside of the typical 2-hour range, but if we are getting a Successor announcement of the reveal, it could definitely be later in the day. Nintendo of America has already made a tweet today (and will probably have a Zora EoW one in about 30 minutes), so I don’t think we’ll get the announcement tonight (still possible but not that likely). If we’re hearing any announcements for either a Direct or a Successor presentation this week, it’s probably tomorrow.

@Novamii After much observation, I figured out that when an employee goes for coffee, it almost always means a presentation isn’t too far away.

@Pastellioli Based off of tradition we almost always get a major announcement/Direct in September, hopefully we do get something soon!

@PikminMarioKirby Yeah Nintendo of America have posted videos on both Echoes of Wisdom and Mario & Luigi so they’re definitely just chucking out all trailers as and when they get them.

@PikminMarioKirby Hoping for something too! When they announce directs, one of the things I look forward to is going onto the live chat here it’s super fun!

@Pastellioli the NintendoLife live chat is really cool, I participated during the partner showcase and the museum Directs last month, it was very fun! Sometimes I click enter before I’m done with my message on the live chat so I accidentally post a partial message 😅

@PikminMarioKirby Do Nintendo Directs always fall on a Wednesday currently? I know this hasn't always been the case, but am unsure how long it's been since we got a Thursday Direct? đŸ€”

“Tune in at 25/09/24 for a Nintendo direct primarily focused on the Nintendo switch successor and games that will launch alongside it. There will be no mention of the Nintendo switch successor during this direct about the Nintendo Switch successor.”

@WiiWareWave Not always, Wednesday is one of the most common days, though. Thursday is pretty common as well, and sometimes they’ll be on a Tuesday. Directs don’t happen that often Friday-Monday, although it has happened before.

Basically as of recent, general Directs tend to air on a Tuesday-Thurday and are usually announced 1-2 days before the presentation.

Bolt_Strike

@PikminMarioKirby So basically tomorrow (or later today for those of you in Europe or other earlier timezones) is most likely our last chance for a Switch 2 presentation this week. For us to get a Thursday announcement it would have to be announced tomorrow, and if not, it's probably not this week. As for the rest of the month, TGS starts next Thursday and they probably won't announce it at the event. So the only likely possibilities for the announcement of a potential reveal date for the rest of the month are tomorrow, Monday, or next Tuesday. So the next 7 days are going to be very telling if the reveal is imminent or if we have to wait until at least October.

@Bolt_Strike It feels like tomorrow is the last chance of an announcement for a big presentation this month. Next week is Echoes of Wisdom and TGS, so after this week we’ll probably have to wait for October if we’re hearing anything this year. Early next week is technically possible, but since EoW and TGS are that week I find it less likely.

The September direct was 2 days before TGS one year. We can't totally give up until next Wednesday. If one of the main goals of a Switch 2 reveal in September is so they can talk about it at TGS, it just has to be before TGS.

@FishyS I'm pretty sure Splatoon 3 is the reason why the Direct was 2 days before TGS that year rather than the usual 7-8 days. Splatoon 3 released on September 9th 2022 and the Direct happened on September 13th 2022, wouldn't have made much sense to have the Direct on September 7th/8th as the Direct would've taken the spotlight away.

@FishyS It's not out of the question, but I see it as extremely unlikely because of Echoes of Wisdom's release. Otherwise I'd say there's a pretty good chance that it's next week.

Usually Nintendo avoids putting general Directs/big presentations same week as major titles. If there is a Direct close to a game, it's typically either the week before or the week after said game. Even the June Direct was the week before Luigi's Mansion 2 HD instead of week of.

I think Nintendo will try to avoid a general Direct/major presentation and a major game in the same week when possible. In this case, there isn't any apparent reason Nintendo wouldn't want to do it this week, or any reason Nintendo would want to choose next week over this week.

Based off of when TGS is compared to Directs, about a week before TGS seems more common than same week as TGS. Not that it's impossible, it just wouldn't line up with Echoes of Wisdom's release being that week. If it's not this week, I hope I'm wrong XD

Nintendo just did a NSO shadow drop, 4 SNES titles.

This confirms it. No direct this month.

PikminMarioKirby

Wednesday NSO drops on Tuesday/Wednesday immediately available instead of a Thursday/Friday release is interesting. This doesn't mean there won't be a Direct, since sometimes NSO gets a roadmap from Directs. Typically Nintendo waits for the month's NSO drop for the Direct, but Nintendo probably would want something more 1st/2nd party to be at the Direct.

This does, however, fall in line with the theory that Nintendo is clearing up the schedule for a Switch 2 presentation, which is seeming more likely now.

A Direct isn't out of the question, but this certainly good evidence for not getting a traditional general Direct
