@Ralizah
I would say the game nailed it in terms of challenge. And with Afflicted Anomoly Quests that can rank up to Level 120 (more to come?) it provides the perfect gradual ramp up for those who want to test their limits.
Level 120 Espinas, anyone? 😀

@CJD87 I wouldn't expect wirebugs, silkbind abilities, or palamutes in World 2. Also, expect a return to less 'arcadey' gameplay, with there being more of a focus on wandering around large environments looking for monsters.
I bought World but never played it, so not expecting I'll be jumping into World 2 either. I really need portable play to properly enjoy MH. Maybe if I own a Steam Deck by then.
@JaxonH The difficulty curve is very 'Nintendo'. Relatively easy to finish, but more challenging if you want to complete all of the post-game stuff. I'm fine with that.
@Ralizah
That's always been MH, really. The last game was the same way. Very rarely carting until late game Iceborn, though they did finally add brutal challenge with the final two monsters.
Skill is a huge factor. Once you get good at the game it feels way easier, and will never be super challenging again. After your first MH, everything after is chasing the dragon.

@JaxonH FU and MH4U both had stumbling blocks that required me to craft better gear in order to progress, which is something that never happened in Rise. While skill and familiarity are definitely factors to consider (same is true of Souls games and SMT, by the way), the raft of changes this gen almost inarguably make it more accessible in ways that older games weren't.
Which is good, since Monster Hunter is a properly big series now.
@Ralizah
For sure. I've just never hit any notable roadblocks in any MH game since MH3U (my first). Once I put 600 hrs into that game, every one after was smooth sailing.
I like being challenged enough that I have to push my skills to the limit to succeed, but not so hard I triple cart on monsters. And that's exactly what every MH game has been for me for as long as I can remember, this one included.
Though I always appreciate endgame that ramps up to utter insanity (MH4U Lv 140 Guild Quests, MHWI Alatreon/Fatalis, MHRS Lv 120 Anomoly Quests, etc).

@JaxonH Ah I see... ! Love a good movie reference mate, this was a new one for me!
I'd love to hunt with you guys, but I'm out with work this evening (16:30 CT - -> 10:30 BST). Hopefully once you drop off from Nier we can schedule something
@Ralizah I would probably be inclined to agree with you that some/most of the new 'arcade-ish' mechanics might be dropped for World 2.... but hopefully Capcom will have some new stuff up their sleeve. Honestly I'm not sure I'd play nearly as much if it weren't for the handheld element, but we'll see!
Gotta finish my daily walk, bout 40 min left to go, and then I gotta finish a hunt I'm in the middle of (suspended the game when I left work). Should be about 15 min tops.
I'll set up a lobby in just under an hour from now. Around 6pm Central (4pm Pacific, 7pm Eastern). Pass 5477 as usual.

@Ralizah
No worries, I was gonna call it a night anyways.
I also missed that tail carve by a nanosecond. Ah well. We did good.
Btw, any idea how to unlock Amber Essence+ because I need 2 more to enable Augmentation on final 2 armor pieces.
Also, when do we unlock Risen Chameleos? I know Furious Rajang is MR50 which I'm close to, and Scorned Magnamalo is at MR100, but no idea on Risen Chameleos.
Oh BTW, that Violet Mizutsune was SICK. Oh my gosh, that might be the best monster I've fought... like, ever.

@JaxonH Gutted to have missed the MP hunt, but sounds like you guys did well!
As far as I remember, Amber Essence+ unlocks and drops around A3/A4 level investigations. When I was completing hunts with Monsters around lv40-50ish, I recall getting quite a lot of this. So basically just keep smashing out the higher level anomaly monsters, and you should be swimming in it shortly!
Risen Chameleos is an unlock at MR110 I believe.
RE. Violet Mizu.... by far my favorite fight of the TU2 roster, so decent!
BTW, in regards to Violet Mizu.... don't sleep on the Greatsword variant you can farm from this Monster!
The Violet Mizu GS is perhaps the only viable competition for the Kamura GS. Violet Mizu has 320 Raw, some fire/element damage (~20-30ish?) and also 3 x 2-slot decos. VM sword also has a really decent amount of Purple sharpness. Downside is that the ramapage deco is only lv1, but you can use qurios crafting to upgrade to lv2 and then utilise the 'anti-species' decos
You mentioned you value utility/comfort over DPS, so this could be a good shout for you to squeeze in another skill
Honestly the VM Greatsword has been a gamechanger for my build. I'd rather have 2-2-2 slots and a slightly lower raw, vs the Kamura Sword with higher Raw and 4-2-0.
I don't like the look of VM sword so much, but that's what layered weapons are for
@CJD87@JaxonH It's weird to me that the new Chameleos variant has such a high MR requirement. It was driving me nuts earlier wondering why I didn't have access to him.
I've been pretty happy with all of the title updates mons so far. Lucent Nargacuga is probably my favorite, and feels like he fits best with the horror theme of the expansion.
The Kamura weapons are pretty ridiculous. Same with the Switch-Axe in that line, which I'm using, and don't really plan on moving away from.
Currently Playing: Yakuza 0: Director's Cut (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
I had already peeped the Violetsune GS, and noted the 320 raw with x3 2-slots, everything you just said. And I also currently use the Kamura GS. And I also noted the Rampage slot and had the exact same idea, to use Augmentation. I just need a 2-slot for Spiribird skill. And yes, layered armor for the weapon is perfect.
@Ralizah
Lucent had always been one of my faves, as he was the final monster I fought in my first MH game. But he's soooo much better in Sunbreak. That invisible move with the tail slam is killer.
Flaming Espinas was also a very high quality hunt. All of em, really. Gold Ian, Silver Los... they're all great.

@Ralizah Agreed... maybe Capcom is just pushing to incentivise some 'grind' from players in gatekeeping Risen Cham? Any how, IMO it is not as good a scrap as Violet Mizu!
Just completed the MR70 urgent. That was nuts! I literally mounted monsters ten times in that fight.
Probably going to put this on the back burner until mid November, when I'll do enough grinding to get up to MR110, fight the Risen Chameleos, and clear the way for whatever new monsters are coming in the next title update.
Currently Playing: Yakuza 0: Director's Cut (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Ralizah MR70 is Valstrax right? Absolutely savage fight, it is still the monster that wrecks me the most.... It can really cover some serious distance with the ranged attacks! Well played
