Topic: Monster Hunter Rise

Was watching the latest Hey Jay! Twitch stream for his Rise journey. He finally got to Magnamalo, and ended up double carting lol. Almost triple carted, but managed to pull it off.

Then he fought Anjanath and did a bit better, since he was familiar with him from World and that's his favorite monster I think. But he still struggled. Then came Zinogre, and he got rekt. It was so funny watching him cart, and get swatted out of the air any time he tried using wirebugs. Like, my guy. Stop using them willy nilly and learn to strategize! Swap out that ridiculous rising silkbind attack you don't know how to handle and use the one that closes the gap with the monster, has super armor to go through roars, and ends with a triple whammy of the Switch Axe. Oh the frustrations of being a backseat driver in a hunt from a new-ish player 😀

Lmao, that rising slash may look fancy but the super armor move completely outclasses it for sure imo.

Key difference though, is you know how to handle it properly. Hey Jay! on the other hand, clearly does not. He just rises up in the air at random, when the monster isn’t even close, then wonders why the follow up isn’t working pressing X. Like uh, you gotta be in an amped state I’m pretty sure. But he doesn’t get that. So it’s just nonstop rising in the air doing absolutely nothing and then once in a while pulling off the follow up attack, but even then missing the vast majority of the time.

Anyways, it’s good to see the move properly demonstrated by somebody who understands it, which allows me to gauge it better and determine whether it’s actually worth using over the other. Definitely seems viable, but, a lot more situational than the other, which can pretty much be used regularly to close the gap, break through roars and attacks, etc. Finding a good technique to close the gap with weapon drawn is usually a top priority for me. Any weapon with a silkbind that can close that gap and lead right into a combo is going to be hard to top. If it has super armor, even better. Charge Blade also has one too, but no Super armor.

@DomGC Seems to me in the case of the Goss Morrag clip that you could have just as easily jumped over that attack with a regular wirefall jump, you didn't really need that move in particular. I mean yeah, again, it LOOKS cool, but I wouldn't slot it in over the incredible usefulness of the other skill for a jump I could always do anyway.

Gonna have to agree with Jax, a move that closes the gap with your weapon drawn while seamlessly allowing you to continue combining is gonna take priority for me, and the super armor while doing so is a big plus.

Demon drug and great sword is the most busted thing ever.

@JaxonH Hey um idk if this counts but I never have used demon drugs and armor skins till now, but I feel like its kinda cheating, I mean I'm using great sword and its making it way easy'er to use but that's the thing its easy to use now and When I should have died I'm fine bc of divine blessing and armor skins, so dose it count as cheating or is it something you should do in the game?

Also I wanted to know your thoughts on the free to play game Dauntless.

I mean, it’s not cheating if it’s part of the game. While armorskins do help, you have to get the materials to craft them with, and they don’t last very long. They’re no different than the defense butterflies you find out in the world. Armorskins are typically needed to not cart against G rank elder dragons. So while they may overdo it a tad now, once the expansion is out, that won’t be the case. You’ll need every last drop of defense you can wring out at that point. I haven’t resorted to using them yet, but I have been stockpiling them for the inevitable expansion.

As for divine blessing, it’s a good skill, but even at Level 3, it’s only a 12.5% increase in defense (25% chance of taking 50% less damage averages out to a 12.5% reduction in damage).Don’t get me wrong, that’s great, but you could just gem in Defense 7 and get way more than that. You can eat for Felyne Defender Hi, there’s all kinds of ways to increase defense in the game. I heavily relied on Divine Blessing in MH World, but I haven’t used it yet in Rise, mostly because it hasn’t been on any of the armor sets I crafted and I haven’t yet gotten the correct materials to make the decorations, or if I have, I spent them on other things. It’s a high-quality skill though, for sure. Then again, that’s 3 slots you could have been using to get permanent Speed Sharpening, or Flinch Free, or Wirebug Whisperer. So it’s give and take, really. I would much rather have one of the latter skills, but once the ultimate expansion releases I might need to rely on Divine Blessing to stand a better chance of tanking big hits.

Dauntless, ok... tbh, I didn’t like it. And I really hate to criticize it because I know some people are fans and that might trigger them, but if I’m giving you my honest opinion, everything about it felt like knock off MH. Virtually every single aspect was similar but worse. Even before MH World released, it didn’t seem as good, and that was comparing it to MHGU and the older style games. But now that they’ve overhauled MH series, it’s night and day.

There are some genres of game where, if there’s a really good game, and another game follows suit, even if it’s not quite as good I’ll still enjoy it. Take Zelda Breath of the Wild and Immortals Fenyx Rising, for example. Clearly Zelda is better. But man did I love Immortals. And by no means did I feel as if I didn’t want to play Immortals just because Zelda was better. I don’t feel that way with Dauntless. I don’t feel that way with God Eater. I don’t feel that way with any other game in the MH genre. For me, there’s just no substitute for the real McCoy. Any time I play any other game, all I can think about is how it doesn’t measure up, isn’t as good, isn’t as fun mechanically, isn’t as deep, monsters don’t look nearly as natural and real, don’t have nearly as good AI, etc. Even God Eater 3, which imo is a much better game than Dauntless, wasn’t able to hold my attention more than a few hours. But at least it differentiates itself, feels more fast paced, anime focused and has its own identity.

Now. I don’t want you to think that because I can’t enjoy any other game in this genre, that means you won’t. You might. I know some who do. But you asked my thoughts so I’m giving them to you in the most honest way I can. I think if I had never played MH, I would like Dauntless. I really do. But once you’ve had the genuine article, there’s just no substitute.

Demon drugs and mega demon drugs probably feel like "cheating" in Rise because frankly they just aren't needed, due to the easier difficulty.

But believe me in previous MonHuns, especially in G Rank, I was chugging those things every hunt like there was no tomorrow.

They'll become a lot more necessary once harder content gets released I'm sure.

@JaxonH Ok so I think for know I'm going to save armor skins for the harder monsters bc I didn't need them in the main story at all, and I think I will keep using demon drugs, manly bc it makes great sword that much better to use, and maybe I'm thinking of switching out divine blessing with flinch free and quick sheath so I can do more hit and run, Thanks dude this really helped me out bc I felt so dirty using the demon drug and armor skins, and from what it sound like you need that stuff for the harder monsters, I mean I saw some people fighting first class elder dragon's and using that stuff, again thanks.

And about how you feel about Dauntless I'm glade i'm not the only one bc when I played it (And it was around when I was starting world) When I was fighting the monsters they felt kinda dead, they didn't attack like they were living and really trying to fight for there lives, and they didn't feel real, I mean take rathalos, when I fight him every attack has the intent to kill me, when he breaths fire it looks like he is truly doing so, but with dauntless all the monsters just, do and nothing else, and some of the attacks don't feel real at all, like when a monster starts putting up force fields and placing sentry's it starts getting creepy.

they are also one of the stupidest A.I ever, I mean every attack tracks wile monster hunter over here, every monsters attack is going were to monster aimed it.
all in all, ya MH is just better but, this is just opinion so.

@TeeJay Ya that makes sense why I feel that way, I mean I'm using stuff thats not even needed and so it feels not only a wast but not needed, thanks and i'm sure just like you said i'm going to be going to town with them in G rank.

Just repelled the Wind Serpent Ibushi... and wow. What. A cool. Fight.

I still have a few more key quests of HR6, and a 2nd page of non-key quests, so I’m not done yet. Obviously I’m gonna have to fight him again, since the quest isn’t selectable atm and I haven’t done the required key quests. But I really liked that fight. That was so cool. Saw the armor and weapons, and immediately went into Vince McMahon gif mode.

So many things to do, so many monsters to fight for materials still, so many armors and weapons to make- I haven’t even begun to take on the rampages. That in and of itself is gonna account for a huge blok of time playing online. I genuinely feel overwhelmed with everything on my to-do list, and I love it. I know G rank will eventually make high rank obsolete, but that’s 18 months away. If I held off on doing anything in these games just because something newer is coming to years down the line, I’d never do anything! Because once G Rank releases, a new game will be out in 18 months. So ya. I’m not worried about it. When the day comes we get the expansion, I’ll farm all new sets. Plus, it’s not like the weapons won’t carry over.

I have been playing nothing but great sword for about a week and I still feel like I haven't gotten the hang of it, I still take lots of hits and Suck with any fast monster, I just need to keep using it and I will get better but I have no idea in hell i'm going to use a great sword with those hard hitting elder dragons.

Also dose anyone know what the best tree for long sword is? also i'm thinking about making builds for my weapons but I feel like I don't need to do that till later in the game, when the updates and junk show up.

Got this on launch. Have tried, and tried, and tried again with it.

The game's a piece of s*** and far too complicated.

@Tendo64 I'm sure @JaxonH can help you, you just need really need to learn to game to injoy it but hey, this game is not for everyone and maybe it just isn't for you (Which makes sense I mean your pretty much telling me this LOL)

@Tendo64 I wouldn’t say it’s “s***” just because you don’t like it. The game itself is pretty well made, and explains it’s mechanics pretty well as well. If you hadn’t done so, may I suggest trying out every weapon in the box on the training grounds? Or maybe doing the tutorial quests?
