I've yet to find a race that was terribly challenging. And I'm far and away from being an expert Mario player.
@CreamyDream Mario 64 is a good deal more challenging for me. Mario is difficult to control, I'm constantly fighting the camera, and there are a lot of tiny platforms floating in empty space that are difficult to land on.
I agree the difficulty curve isn't a problem, though. Most 3D Mario games are easy to beat, but more challenging to fully complete.
The birds can definitely be a bit iffy. I've never had a problem getting the moon, as it's usually in the same position as the bird was when I hit it (ergo if I can hit the bird, I can get the moon). But I remember one of the Metro ones took a number of attempts to hit, and the wide path it look meant it took a while before I could get another chance.
I think the idea of the bird is a bad one but if I was able to reach the bird the first time, I could always get back to the same spot again for the moon.
But yeah I would have preferred the birds not be a thing.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
All 883 regular Moons + 116 Moons from the Crazy Cap stores = 999 Moons.
41/41 Hats, 42/42 Costumes, 52/52 Capers, 43/43 Souvenirs, 82/82 Music Tracks.
Completed final Sphinx challenge.
Completed final Hard Bowser challenge.
Star on Save File.
65+ hours played.
I think overall the birds are a bad idea, only if they could have been replaced by another, more interesting moon. Otherwise, better than nothing I say. Usually they hit a low point somewhere, you just gotta find it. The warping actually resets their location too, so if you miss it and don't want to wait for it to come around again you can warp. Did that in the Wooded Kingdom. Btw, what did people think about the birds that sit at edge of the map and fly away when you get close? They were really annoying, and I could only get them by cheesing the game by loading them off-screen while cappy was there.
I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke! My YouTube Channel! Video game related, of course! My Pushmo Levels
@CreamyDream Yeah, absolutely. There have been a lot of QOL improvements in Mario games over the years, so I could see SM64 being easier overall with more modern design sensibilities.
Except for those sliding levels. I always struggle with those!
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
You wear Mario's polygonal '64' costume to access one of the place a toad is guarding in the Mushroom Kingdom, and the lil area is a straight throwback to Super Mario 64...
@MasterWario I found them annoying until I realized you were supposed to crouch walk slowly to them until you were within cap throwing distance. Then it wasn't so bad.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

And now it's in HD you can finally read (provided your eyesight is good enough) the text beneath the star in the courtyard that says 'Luigi is real' and the code sequence for unlocking him. So glad they put Luigi in this game...
I just beat the main story and absolutely loved the game. I know I have at least another 15 hours getting more moons and unlocking the remaining kingdoms but have they said anything about expansions for the game in the future? Since there have been 2 for Zelda and since early indications are that Odyssey will outsell BoTW I would think its highly likely but just wondered if anyone had any info on this.
@SKTTR Wait, where can I see my save file? Also, by final Sphynx challenge you mean the one in the final challenge, right?
The game has 5 save files per user.
Press PLUS to pause and check the options.
Yes, I mean the one in the final stage with the very last questions.
Man, I'm so glad I got that last question right on my first try after some debate with myself. I really didn't want to start over the stage again, I already gave every wrong anwser on the question before and had to restart. xD
Cake you, Nintendo! I can tell that the rabbits go easy on you by "getting tired" if you take too long to catch it. If I was so determined to catch it, why would you think I wanted an easy way out?
@Maxz Aw, come on! You couldn't allow me to hold the record for the fastest time in Metro Kingdom's Koopa Freerunning Challenge among my friends? Lol jeez
And that was a 10-second leap from the second fastest friend on my list (which was you, btw)... Oh well, several hours of being top position wasn't any bad, was it?
EDIT: Ha. Beaten. That took frustratingly forever, though...
@Hawkstream the game screams out 'insert DLC here'... but personally I'd much rather see a Mario Odyssey 2. The cappy mechanics are very satisfying and flexible enough (just add more enemies to capture*) to hang another full game around without it feeling repetitive.
For some games DLC really makes sense but I don't think it's the best option in this case.
*Bob ombs might be fun. Boos have been done before in Galaxy 2 but why not again? They'd fit the more exploratory style like a glove. Dry bones could be interesting too in a Wario Land kind of way. More dinosaurs too - of course.
@SKTTR Huh, just tried to open a new game on the second slot but it still tells me that this will create a new save file. Can anybody confirm that this won‘t delete my save file? I mean, I‘ll just use my American username for subsequent playthroughs if it does delete your save file.
