@StuTwo I agree. I'd much rather a Galaxy 2-type situation where any unused ideas are fleshed out in a full sequel. I dunno if it'd be a good idea adding even MORE moons in the game via DLC, haha. The total amount just seems so nice and tidy.
I think we'll definitely see a sequel to this game before the Switch is gone. If they do, it'd be cool to see what other level themes they use. I was sad that the ruins weren't a full level, I would have died for more of that dark souls-esque environment in a Mario game
@StuTwo I did notice the lack of Boos, and a Haunted level in general. Pokeys would've been a great fit for the desert level. No Bob-ombs is a weird omission too.
Maybe in Super Mario Odyssey 2, they've done it before...
I'm hoping for a sequel too, they could introduce a ton of new enemies, but let's not forget Bloopers, Magikoopa, Spikes and maybe even Thwomps but I don't think those would be very interesting to capture... Although Chain Chomps did work fine in Odyssey.
A piece of the Triforce appeared before you! (>'.')> ▲ Touch it now!
@Spanjard Lol maybe you didn't try but you were on top with the jumping rope challenge on my friend list and that's also the only challenge I bothered to high score. You better stay away
Oh and beach volleyball I guess because it isn't about time either (I really dislike time challenges)
@StuTwo How about both? I don't want to wait 2 years + for a 2nd game which is what it would take. I would like some DLC in a few months . And there is virtually no doubt they will do a 2nd one in some form anyway. This is their bread and butter.
Just found out how many Power Moons they are....Oh this will be be fun.
The main story has been one of the most enjoyable games for me in years. But after finishing it I'm struggling to get motivated to get more power moons and I know there are a few other kingdoms to unlock. The game just feels kind of empty and flat after you finish the main story IMO. Also there are just too many other games to play right now on PC and PS4 to devote time to all the other moons.
@Octane I wouldn't say it feels like an unfinished game - that's unfair because every game has features and levels planned and dropped. If they're dropped early in production it might not be noticeable. If they're dropped later or are more central to the original design it can be more serious.
So Odyssey is a finished game and it doesn't particularly suffer but I think it's pretty clear there are some levels at various stages of completion that were cut and a number of transformations.
The lack of a haunted 'house' and some iconic Mario enemies not appearing being most obvious but maybe they'd originally planned for all 999 moons to be 'real' moons? We might never know or not for years.
@Hawkstream In answer to the question 'why not both a sequel and DLC?' - if the DLC cribs the best of the ideas left over then a direct sequel has less chance to thrive. Unfortunately it's probably either/or.

I feel the same way. I had some direction and goals with the story and had a blast but I am finding it hard to be motivated to go back to these levels and scour them for moons. In Galaxy 2 there were hidden green stars in levels after you beat the game....power moons feel like these stars but there is way too many of them. Getting a moon is not very rewarding. Getting the regular Galaxy stars is funner than the green stars.
I've spent HOURS today trying to complete The Darker Side of the Moon. Hours! I've got to put this game away for a while, as the very sight of it is annoying me right now.
