@Octane Yeah, I mentioned Moon shards in the fourth paragraph of the last post, saying that including 'mini moons' on top of them might be a bit much.

But my idea was that 'mini moons' would simply be worth 0.5 moons, and stack with any other mini moons to create a whole, not simply be part of a single moon challenge.

Moon shards are different in that unless you've got all five, they count for nothing, and you can't mix them with any other shards from any other level. They're more like red (or purple coins) from past Mario games than pieces of heart from Zelda.

So there's a meaningful difference between the moon shards and the concept I'm getting at.

An alternative system would be to divide moons into 'challenge moons' and 'exploration moons', and have the Odyssey require a certain number of each before take off.

It'd all get a bit messy and probably not be worth doing, but it might go some way to stopping the easy moons from undervaluing those that require some real technical accomplishment.

Beat the cold world. Halfway through Luncheon Kingdom! It's a lot cooler then the previews and trailers made it look. I read somewhere that swimming around in the lava wasn't that fun, but I have to disagree there because I think it's a blast swimming around, twirl-attacking out of the lava by shaking the Joycon.

This game really helps me to understand how shaking a controller can be made fun. Because it's fun as heck in Mario Odyssey.

Just blew three or four hours running around the Mushroom Kingdom finding moons and collecting purple coins. I officially have all of the purple coins for two of the kingdoms now, and all but one of the moons for Seaside Kingdom (I think I need to use a portal from a different kingdom to get that last moon).

Tried the dark side of the moon boss rush a few times now. It's surprisingly tough!

I haven't enjoyed a game this much since I played Breath of the Wild earlier in the year. Really glad I picked this system up at launch!

Switch is easily my favorite console- they could stop announcing new games tomorrow, just release whatever's already been announced, and it would still end up being my favorite system.

Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda Breath of the Wild... wow

@CreamyDream I really like how I can just focus on exploring the game's beautiful worlds in the postgame, but yeah, the decision to allow players to buy an infinite number of moons is VERY weird to me.

@CreamyDream I like the postgame for being able to do whatever I want and not be lead around places by some overall goal and guiding light, especially because those tasks would often change up the state of a kingdom to give that goal a bit more priority. I also like how there are the Moon Cube moons to collect. But I agree, I find it disappointing that there‘s no limit to how many Moons you can get, unless it stops at like 999. But even then, I‘d rather have them give those 169 or so extra moons some tasks beyond doing the same money harvesting thing hours on end just to get the money to purchase 'em all. Like 'Oh no, Peach and Tiara have lost each other, go find Tiara!' and that in every Kingdom. I also felt it a tad disappointing not receiving a Moon for collecting all regional coins. These two tasks alone could‘ve been 34 more task-based moons. Well, we can only cross our fingers for DLC where those moons are given tasks.

I don't know if I'd go as far as my favorite console ever, but the versatility is great, I was playing this game today while watching the World Series and just the fact we're actually in a time where a handheld can handle this kind of game is awesome.

As far as SMO itself, now that I've played more than enough it, I'm ready to call it my favorite 3D Mario ever and with every new kingdom and surprise around every turn that I discover it's on track to match or maybe even surpass World as my favorite Super Mario game period. It's that freaking good. I love the Galaxy games but I forgot how much I missed the more open ended gameplay of 64 until this game landed. It's a brilliant mix of those two styles.

769 Moon so far. Got... Luncheon, Ruined, Bowser and Moon Kingdoms left to post-game out, 8 or so more achievements to get, and then Dark Side and Darker Side and whatever follows.

Trucking on, not bad for 5 days.

Just now i finished the game 100 %. I wont bother buying all the moons and collecting money to max the counter. Its been a great journey. I still prefer mario sunshine. Odyssey takes second place. Maybe its because of nostalgia. The galaxy marios were more fun. Even if its not quite as fun as the galaxies i prefer the exploration route this mario and sunshine took because its making the game more memorable. I like the difficulty of the game and generally it was just fun to play. I hope we will see a second 3d mario this generation.

To really finish the game i will head to seaside kingdom and listen to all the tracks while mario enjoys his vacation. He really deserves it. And then i will try to 100% botw for the third time. Gotta try my new and shiny pro controller.

Just beat the Volleyball challenge, too. Like @Ralizah said, it‘s really easy with Two Player Mode. Thanks for that suggestion, mate!

@Jhena what do you mean with 100%? 100% story? Seems like you do not have all the moons, so it's not 100% then, right? New to the game, so maybe I miss something!

@Dev
I think Bowser will say like this when Mario dress up in Wedding gown " Gosh...!!! A Drag Queen ?! "

No good deed
Will I do
AGAIN...!!!

Let me just say, that one boss, the dragon, is by far my favorite in any Mario game. But as for the more Mario-esque bosses, I found lakeside kingdom's to be the best simply because the arena is organic rather than a forced circle forcefield. It felt epic using the entire kingdom as the arena

@Operative2-0 Lakeside? From your description, that sounds like Seaside Kingdom, and I‘d have to agree. The entire world is my favorite. It gives me the same vacation-y, summer feel I get from playing Sunshine every November.

@Dev I actually did the same thing, haha. I found out you could ground pound him, but fighting an entire boss with just the captured enemy felt much more epic to me

@silentium My 100 % completion is refering to the ingame list and the dresser. It lists moons, purple (coins), things you can caper, souvenirs and music tracks. I collected everything and have 900 moons (lucky zelda coincidence). In my eyes this is 100 percenting a game. Otherwise you would have to max the money in games like gta 5 or witcher and have 99 or more of every item and so on.

The thing is the game lets you buy extra moons. I think its to buy clothes that were normally only accessible with amiibo. And maybe for people that cant get enough of grinding money.

I just finished the story, and wow. This game is a masterpiece. Just unbelievable.

@Octane Wholeheartedly agree with you. And I couldn‘t care less about those rankings, all I want is to collect those two moons. Having looked up solutions to them online, Imust say, though, people find very creative ways of going about them. Ways that I almost certainly will never be able to pull off myself.
