I think I'm gonna have to drop Golden Sun, unfortunately. Got stuck after 6-7 hours in. I did try exploring around, but I couldn't find anything, and those random encounters are not doing me any favors. I could look up a guide, but I don't like doing that since I prefer playing games for myself.
Edit: Ok, I kinda lied. I came across a new area earlier so guess I'll see what I can do there.
Portal. I know it's a classic, but from now on I trust classics recommended by people I know, not strangers on the internet. The portals are fun and smooth but movement feels off, like I'm moving a camera and not a player. Puzzles are nice. But the overall look of the levels and monotonous voice narrating stuff is depressing. Put that gameplay in, idk, a city and I'll eat it up.
Is Portal 2 any different on those fronts? Or am I deleting them both?
@sunny63 Portal 2 still takes place in test chambers monitored by Glados but there is a bit more variety in the environments, and there's another character who talks to you sometimes who's less monotonous. I generally found it funnier and more lighthearted than the first game. I'd say it's worth giving it a go at least.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
It's a dirty, grimy, up-rezzed PS1-feeling action game. Combat and movement are floaty. The equipment system is of the 1970's variety. However, the audio design and the lore are better than good, so it's not all bad. The menu design might be the best part of this?
An easy "skip" for any action game connoisseur.

I haven't officially dropped it yet but the new Momodora is shockingly lame. There's no coherent level design, the map is largely empty, and all the stat-raising items are signposted for you anyway. Reverie Under the Moonlight was better in every conceivable way.
It aint no Touhou Lunar Nights, I can tell you that.
There's man all over for you, blaming on his boots the faults of his feet.
Neon White the shooting and movement systems are both revolutionary and engaging, but even after playing it for 10 hours I didn’t feel that I ever got better.
It is cool though! And it’s definitely for someone! Even if the dialogue has also earned all of the criticism it gets!
Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to drop Metroid Prime Remastered. I tried facing that space pirate boss again, but I just cannot get past it. I've died every time I went in that boss fight... I do have a good idea of what to do, but somehow I'm constantly getting hit. It just feels really unfair. I was enjoying myself with this game until I got to this part... yeah I cannot stand this boss fight.

@MarioLover92 Did you get all of the upgrades available to you so far, such as the different cannons and super missiles? It’s been a while since I played so I may not be remembering correctly but I thought Prime’s bosses were difficult too, they definitely require trial and error sometimes. I hate to link IGN but their guide helped me with finding upgrades/Chozo Artifacts and strategies for various bosses: https://www.ign.com/wikis/metroid-prime/Boss:_Omega_Pirate

@luckyseven Yeah I think so. I have all four beam weapons, as well as the missile upgrades for the Power Beam, Wave Beam, and I think the Ice Beam as well. I do have all four visors as well. Yep that's the boss I'm stuck at... thanks for the link!
@OctolingKing13 Normal I think. I forgot there was a difficulty select if the game has one.

@MarioLover92 I’ve done two playthroughs and I’m so glad I did it in easy first. Maybe try it in easy? The game for me was amazing except for the back and forth traversal. I also used NintendoLifes walkthrough which helped a lot 🙂

It doesn't happen often, but when I get stuck at a particularly tough part of a game, I tend to look up some gameplay videos, see how other people beat it. Most of the time it's because of a mechanic I wasn't aware of or failed to recognize a particular pattern or attack signal.
@OctolingKing13 Yeah I could try easy mode I guess. I normally don't like playing in easy mode for games like this, but I'll consider it. Does the game let you change difficulties on the fly, or do you have to start a new game?
@bighirofix I could try looking up a video as well, yeah. Though like with easy mode, it's something I don't like to do normally because I like playing games for myself.

The Switch port is sound. But playing this with friends is a better casual experience. The progression system doesn't allow me to just over-level and power through tough encounters. I would rather play one of the many Rebellion-developed games (Zombie Army, Strange Brigade, Sniper Elite, etc) for a more relaxed, solo, third-person shooting experience.

This one hurts to say, but I think I might be dropping Alien Soldier for the foreseeable future. I've had a fantastic time with it overall but I've gotten to one boss in particular that's FIVE PHASES LONG with a very strict time limit and quite frankly I'm not sure I can do it on the current difficulty. I'll probably hop back on after I beat Side Order (preferably on the lower difficulty) but yeah: pretty sad overall especially when I was enjoying it as much as I was

Probably unpopular opinion, but all bosses with a zillion phases should have check-points. I don't really understand the 'fun' of 'look, I mastered this 5 minute 3 phases of boss fight, now I get to repetitively play that 5 minutes over and over to get a short glimpse of the next phase'. There are so many bosses where I think each individual phase is fun/interesting but playing the first phases exponentially more times than the latter phases is not fun.
@FishyS What makes it sting even more is, up until this point, Alien Soldier has been absolutely fantastic with its boss fights for the most part; sure you'd get mopped on your first attempt, but you'd very easily be able to ascertain their moments of vulnerability and fire away into them. I'm definitely going to go back to it down the line (preferably on the condescendingly-named 'Supereasy' difficulty) but man it's left me incredibly demotivated 😔

JRPGs just aren't my thing anymore. It feels more like a job with it's repetitive grindy combat loop.
Yeah, I feel where you're coming from — I just today dropped Star Ocean First Departure R, as it suffers from some hideously archaic game design; awfully grindy and some really bad/nonexistent signposting. Plus the whole skill system really didn't make much sense until I ended up consulting a guide. Shame really, as I kinda wanted to get up to speed for Second Story, but now I'm a little bit wary about playing it at all.
Plus this is the third big action RPG I've dropped in the past year — Phoenotopia and CrossCode, two games that on paper were right up my street, and I loved them when I started out, but both suffered from some soulcrushingly fiddly late game grinding and backtracking that ultimately broke me.
