So is the patch required? Rather not DL if it's not necessary..

I've encountered a potential game-breaking bug: the lock picking mini-game will sometimes act as if you're pushing the left joystick as soon as you start which makes it impossible to actually pick a lock. If you need to pick a door, and you encounter this bug, it can stop you dead in your tracks. I'm stuck on a side quest because of it. I tried reloading a save, even quit the game entirely and restarted it, but it's still happening. And, no, it's not joystick drift because the joystick otherwise works perfectly.

I hope they fix it quickly.

Edit: restarting the game a second time seems to have fixed it... for now.

Other than that, I'm enjoying it. It looks great and runs great. Some of the DLC weapons that you can craft early on seem overpowered, but I'm not really complaining because they can make the game less of a slog.

@Mountain_Man Yeah, if you look through the thread I have the same issue too. It's really annoying and I'm glad I'm not the only one encountering it. Hopefully they patch it soon.

Outside of the above mentioned bug, it plays well otherwise? For a game that has received so much support since it’s release, I would imagine the bug to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Ah, I knew I had read about someone else encountering this bug, but I had forgotten where.

I just sent off a bug report to Techland to make sure they know about it.

It plays amazingly well, and I'm surprised how little compromise to the visuals was necessary to get it running on the Switch. The two most obvious sacrifices are fairly short draw distances for some details that suddenly fade in as you get closer, and half frame rate animation for characters more than 50-feet away. While these are noticeable if you're looking for them, I personally don't find either one distracting.

Cool, I have also submitted one, so hopefully it'll be picked up.

I'm surprised it hadn't been picked up by any reviews or youtubers...

By the way, how do you use motion controls and gyro aiming? I turned on motion controls in the settings, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

The Mountain Man

aresius

@Mountain_Man
gyro is only when you aim in the sight with guns, motion i have no idea maybe you can swing with the joycon to use blades or is the same just for guns on the sight

aresius

Hmmm... it would have been nice if they had actually explained that somewhere. Or maybe I just haven't gotten the tutorial because all I have at the moment are melee weapons.

When you have the issue with lock picking, back out of it (hit the B button) and try again. It sometimes takes a few tries but it will eventually work.

Other than the lock picking issue, I am really impressed with this game.

@psychoBrew
i had a lot of that bug and is very annoying for a game with a loot system, but yes I am impressed with the game too, and this is my first run I only have a switch console so I never played before , I am having a blast the game is amazing!!

@Mountain_Man
i can confirmed it only work by activating the iron sight aim(pressing the R3 bottom when you have a gun..) when you have a gun , i find it one near the starting area with some bullet , gyro works with the DLC ranger bow too

So I've played the game for a few hours now. Not sure what to make of it just yet. The idea sounds great, but I'm not having all that great of a time when I'm playing just yet. Weapons seem to damage rather quickly and I tend to avoid zombies altogether because of it. I rarely seem to find useful items to craft anything worthwhile. I have a hard time knowing if I have certain equipment or not and accidentally store things in my bag at times. I ended up having to run from the nightmare creatures with zero weapons or medkits and was too far from any safe zone. Tried one Lockpick scene and immediately broke it without any backups and had to go find more metal (ugh).

All of these issues are no doubt probably my own wrong doing, I'm not not sure the game is clicking with me. I'm going to give it a couple more days of an hour or two a piece, and see if I want to keep playing from there. The game plays and looks great, it's just the core design of the game isn't my favorite.

So when I was playing last night, I no longer had any issue with medium difficulty locks but I still had the issue with hard level locks. I am now wondering if this is how it's supposed to be — when the roll of the digital dice determines you have no chance of unlocking a lock, you have no control over it. I will play around more tonight.

@psychoBrew
same thing it appears only on hard lock but it will go away after a while, I mange to open one hard(the same i could not open before and one medium after about 10 minutes or free roaming or by triggering a download screen, i still think is a bug

@NintendoByNature
first the lockpick is a knowing bug , when you see it's lock in one position and is about to break it up quickly press cancel(b) to abort the action to save your lockpick, this buy appear and disappear at random if you come back later to the same chest or another it could have been gone(for a while), we need to wait for a patch but knowing how to deal i manage to open 3-4 chest later on with little trouble

about weapon did you try to craft some of the blue weapons from the DLCs in the crafting menu, with little scavenge here and there(look for orange container on the roofs and balconies, blue rubbish container on the street, vans and cars and any house you can enter) I manage to create very quickly a frying pan very powerful and another one I don't remember the name and they last a lot, just to let you know each weapon has his own durability, the rare the weapon(grey common, green/uncommon , blue/rare, purple/very rare and finally the more powerful at normal difficulty orange legend) the better the quality higher will be the durability lasting a lot and each weapons as tot. repair slot(the number(min. 3 for a grey weapon ) depend on the quality as well the better the more slots are available ), every time you can waste1-2 metal part to repair to full durability(always wait for the weapon to be broken to maximize it) modification if you find/buy them can be apply to some weapons if they have free slot to increase damage, add effect and increase durability, two skill in the power and survivors tree-skill can help to make your weapons more durable this is not breath of the wild (i hate the breaking weapon system in that game)

one tips: buy the power skill throwing weapons(a low level skill), it works even with broken weapons(they will still do full damage)

another tips: make use on the environment kick biters on spikes will kill them instantly , do not use guns/explosives they attract viral(the fast zombies)

night: you are playing wrong, during day you are like hulk(most of the time) during the night you are Bruce banner , avoid the night special infects , Do NOT engage them at low level if they find you escape and avoid them using parkour and hide or find a safe house, you are suppose to fight them at higher lever and with better weapons, and in the start is better to avoid night by reaching the nearest safe zone(and if the ones you already have are too far , try o explore more and find news one to unlock(red house icons on the map when you are near it),when you will be able to cope with it night will become useful because of great booster of EXP for the skills tree (power and agility)

for the rest you have to continue to play to learn controls and use the menu, it took me 1-2 hours to become better at it

@aresius ok fair enough and thank you for the insight. I'll definitely try some more and see how I progress. I at least want to give this game a fair shake before stopping altogether.
