I think I've died and gone to zombie portable heaven. Oh Techland, you liars, you said you had no interest in porting Dying Light to Switch a few years ago. But with this, that's water under the bridge in my eyes. One of my favorite games of the PS4/Xbone generation coming to Switch?
Well...I can no longer complain about Dead Island's absence on Switch, can I?

RE and L4D are linear experiences. Conversely, Dying Light is an open world action/rpg. Like Saints Row or Skyrim but with a movement system aped from the Mirror's Edge series. There's also a weapon degradation system like Zelda BotW but weapons are so abundant it's a non-issue.

Dying Light is one of my favourite games from the last generation. Everything just came together perfectly to make an incredible experience. It was the first time I played a game and really felt like I was in a real post-apocalyptic world overrun with zombies.
Anyone who hasn't played it yet definitely needs to give it a go. I hope this is true, because playing it on the go will be great if they can actually get it to run decently on the Switch. I can deal with the visual downgrade, to a certain extent.
No official confirmation yet. I must admit I'm a bit skeptical at the moment since this is a pretty "heavy" game and requires a good PC to run well. If they somehow managed to get this running on the Switch then I expect it to have Outer Worlds quality visuals (good game, but a very rough presentation).
Considering the game performed only mediocrely on PS4/Xbox One either the cutbacks are going to be too great to justify a Switch port or the game will be as faithful as possible at the expense of running like a 2007 PowerPoint
This isn't the kind of game I'd get on my Switch but it's cool for those who haven't played it yet

I booted up Dying Light on my reasonably powerful PC this evening, and that was enough to convince me that this rumor is almost certainly BS. There's no way this game could be made to run on the Switch without significant compromises to performance and visual fidelity. This isn't a Witcher 3 sort of affair where vast tracts of land are covered with relatively easy to render grass and trees. We're talking one large, intricately detailed urban environment where the player is free to go wherever he wants. It would be a miracle if Techland were to get this running acceptably on the Switch.
@Mountain_Man I don't know, Witcher 3 is much more demanding of PCs than Dying Light. I played it with no technical issues while I think I barely meet Witcher's minimum specs. IIRC Dying Light runs on an amped up Dead Island engine.
@SmaggTheSmug Dying Light on PC is fine from the perspective of someone who played it back in like 2015/2016
Console performance however is whole other can of worms. I vividly remember seeing vids of it chugging like hell and dropping to sub-30fps at times, especially on Xbox One. The thing with Dying Light is unlike Witcher 3, which has you travelling down large chunks of nothing in the open world which means it has less to render in real-time, Dying Light's city environments are pretty detailed for a mid-cycle last gen game and one of the game's main mechanics involves fluid traversal, specifically stuff like parkour, which is why it's probably going to be way more demanding on Switch than Witcher 3 was even at its worst instances

Today Techland confirmed that the rumors were true. Needless to say, I'm thrilled. My favorite zombie game not named Resident Evil, my favorite open world game not named The Witcher III, will soon be available on my all-time favorite platform? I'm as giddy as a kid in a candy shop. It's a "dreams can be true" kind of day for me, folks.

Indeed, so happy in fact that any situation the physical release arrives in might get a free pass in my eyes. Base game on cartridge, with a required download for DLC? Don't care, give it to me. I mean...hopefully everything is on the cartridge. But after how Techland gave the Call of Juarez: Gunslinger physical release zero respect I have my doubts.
