Got my copy and playing now... I'm still inside (been playing 5 minutes), but I'll let you all know how it handles once I have got deeper into it.
Initial thoughts are that no one should expect miracles. I'm playing handheld and it's a bit blurry as you would expect, but not bad. Character models have that usual fuzziness that "impossible ports" tend to have. It seems perfectly playable though, but I want to see what it's like when I'm outside being chased by a dozen zombies.
I'm actually trying to decide if I want this game or world War z that comes out in a couple weeks. They seem somewhat similar. Then again it would be nice to have a game for Halloween and world War z comes out in November.
@Zuljaras I didn't think of testing that sorry (I just downloaded the patch and played), but there isn't any warning on the box at all and the patch only took 3 or 4 minutes to download, so I think it's all on there.
I don't understand how they crammed the entire game plus all the DLC into just a 14.5GB file to be honest. I'm not Digital Foundry and I'm only in the initial part of the game, but it seems like a very impressive port.
The difference between this and The Outer Worlds is night and day.
@Slowdive I'm really looking forward to the breakdown by Digital Foundry. I'm sure they'll have a video up within the week, which will go into full detail.
I'm doing the first mission you do, and as it kinda throws you in the deep end a bit, putting you straight in the big open world and with lots of zombies about, I'm getting a good experience of what the game can offer. Firstly, it looks good. It's incredibly impressive just how good it looks considering it's a PS4/XB1 gen open world game. Secondly, it seems to run fine, despite the pressures of it being a fast paced game with lots of characters on the screen. There are some framerate stutters, but nothing that's bad enough to pose much hinderance to the gameplay.
This was one of my favourite games last gen, so I'm ecstatic to have it on Switch where I can play it on the go.
This is great news. Thanks for the preview @Reprise
My preload is ready to go.

@JaxonH No problem. I'm back playing handheld rather than docked and main downside is the dynamic resolution (well I assume it's dynamic) is far more aggressive on handheld. I wouldn't want to speculate what it drops down to, but it seems pretty blurry to me. It's not unplayable or bad or anything, just noticeably blurrier for the most part.
@Reprise
I expect games like this to run at lower res in handheld. I guess the question is how extreme it gets.
Games like Wolfenstein 2 and Outer Worlds, imo, were too much in handheld. The low res combined with blurry filtering made it hard to enjoy. Whereas Doom Eternal, although it was also lower res, looked a lot better. The filtering didn’t make it seem as blurry and the fast paced action meant you never had time to stop and focus on it.
Games like Witcher 3, not ideal but perfectly playable in handheld.
Are there any comparisons to other games you could provide to give an idea of where it lies in that spectrum?

@JaxonH Doom Eternal is the benchmark in my opinion. You're right, that's the best impossible port in terms of graphics and appearance in my opinion. I think it looked better in the end because it didn't have that motion blur/smoothing filter that Doom 2016 had.
Dying Light isn't as good as Doom Eternal, I don't think. It being open world probably makes it more demanding, plus this is the kind of game where you need to constantly look into the distance, evaluate your surroundings and plan your route, so any blurriness doesn't help in that regard.
It is better than Outer Worlds. I haven't played Wolfenstein on Switch, but from what I have seen, Dying Light is also better than that in handheld. I don't think it's as good as Witcher 3 post major patch, but probably better or on par with what it was like at launch.
1. Lockpicks. There is some weird bug that sometimes causes the lockpick to instantly vibrate and act as if you are pushing the stick when you are not. Moving the sticks to counteract it doesn't work either. Eventually the lockpick will break. This is really annoying because it causes you to waste lockpicks. This is fairly common and needs patching.
2. One time when I put the Switch mid-game and later came back to it, it wouldn't register any button presses (i.e. it locked up). I tried going back to Home and back to the game several times, as well as reconnecting controllers and nothing worked, so I had to quit the game and go back into it. This might just be a random occurrence.
Edit: Didn't want to triple post (double posting is bad enough), so edited to just say I have spent more time playing in handheld mode and the game runs really well. This is definitely one of the most impressive ports on the system. Might just be the fact I haven't bothered to put my glasses on yet this morning or I have gotten used to any blurriness, but it's not bad at all.
pretty glad to know is running well and is looking fine for a third party port, i was on the fence to pre-order or not .
P.s. for the first bug are you sure is not your joycon affected by drifting ?
@aresius Nah it's definitely not drift from what I have tested. It's a weird glitch that occurs regardless of which controller you're using. For example, it occurs even with the pro controller.
I don't know what causes it, but in one side mission I was just doing, it occured on a box on top of a roof on a building that was part of the quest. I tried 3 times and it kept doing it, so I carried on with the mission for a bit and then went back to the box and it worked fine.
@aresius There seems to be just as many as there were on the original console versions. If there are fewer, I haven't really noticed. I've been surrounded by zombies a few times now and the framerate seems to hold up very well. I've had a few occasional stutters, but nothing too noticeable in my opinion.
I'm really eager to see what Digital Foundry make of it and the results from all their various tests, because to me this feels like one of the better ports. It's more Witcher 3 quality than Outer Worlds quality.
@Reprise
you just make me pre-order the game right now thank you!!
i will enjoy this game and I will probably buy the cloud version of the incoming second(will be my first and only cloud game on switch XD)
