I'm loving it so far. I was playing Evil Edition last few weeks leading up to this and the Switch version is better than I imagined. Despite having a power outage and lousy weather Friday, I've still sunk 15+hrs in to it already. You lose nothing from console versions, but gain everything in mobility form. The portability aspect makes this the best version to date. Being able to play this with no power, in the car, outside (difficult at times in dark dungeons) is totally liberating. Not being tethered to a PC or TV is when this game truly shines. Visuals take a hit, but to be honest, the action doesn't slow down and you get lost in the demon slaying to even notice. I only had one instance where it bugged out on me while in the prison yard. After I cleared out a cell, the screen flashed white for a good 2 seconds, but then resumed as normal.
I got Starlink, Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption II, yet I'm dumping hours any chance I get in to a 6 year old game. Quite honestly.. I'm loving every bit of it!
I saw my first compromise for the Switch version. In ACT 3 when you are on top of Bastion Keep you can see the battlefield below. All the demons there except the big one are static and they do not move. I do not know if that is the case for handheld only or not I have to test it.
It is a little disappointing but I guess it had to be made in order for the game to be at stable 60 fps.
@JaxonH The Jeweler guy voiced by James Hong is where you put gems into gear. He can also combine gems and remove socketed gems as well
You can put gems in your gear at any point. You only need the Jeweler to remove them without destroying the gear, but it will cost some gold. Alternatively, you can use the Blacksmith to salvage the gear for crafting ingredients and recover the gem for free (well, sort of; you do lose the item in the process).
@Blister If you've played Diablo a dozen times already, wait for a sale. If you've never played Diablo, it's one of the biggest most unending games you'll ever spend money on...no reason not to spend full price I mean there's been 3 Diablo games (excluding expansion packs) ever, and many of us have been playing since 1996. That says something.
Switch may not have the volume of games that other consoles have this year, but with Diablo 3, Civ6, and Smash, Dark Souls, and Monster Hunter, it certainly has a trinity+ of all-consuming soul eating titles.

I've not seen any significant slow down even in a three-player local co-op game with dozens of enemies and spell effects on-screen.
@NEStalgia Great - thanks for that reply. I think I will like it. My only experience of the series was a PC demo of the first game (I probably dowloaded on dial-up in circa 1996). What I remember was that it was really fun. I think you may have swayed me!
Being a necromancer, commanding a skeleton army, is great fun! I love how the game can be so entertaining and rewarding, seeing how repetitive the gameplay can be. Oh, the poor A button.

Pretty sure you can hold the A button down to attack rather than pressing it repeatedly.
@Mountain_Man you’re comment was really helpful re playing offline.
But how this game handles playing offline is still a bit confusing for me. The promise of this game was to be able to play offline, but it seems you can’t unless you start a game when connected to WiFi and then put the system into sleep mode? Not ideal if you want to swap between games when travelling.
Also people can join your games, which is lovely and an essential feature. But not something I’m ready for yet as I’m learning the ropes or might only be playing for a few minutes.
It feels rude rejecting someone joining you. If like Dragon Ball FighterZ you just chose online or offline at the start of each game it would be much easier. Or maybe I’m missing an option?
Other than that I’m having great fun so far. I’m more into action than rpgs so I’m finding all the menus and getting my head around crafting etc a bit overwhelming, but I’m sure as I play more it will all click into place. It’s addictive fun.

I don't get that. My Switch was in airplane mode and thus not connected. I put my cartridge in the Switch press start and that is it. I just play it.

I believe that's because you're using Season mode. I've never tried Season mode and honestly don't quite understand what it is, but it apparently requires a certain amount of online connectivity. If you don't use Season mode, then you can play completely offline.
Thanks both, yes I’m so new to this. I went for Season Mode not being sure if I’d be ready for it yet this season - but thought there was no harm in selecting it.
Without restarting as another level 1 character I can’t see a way to go back to campaign/adventure only?
If not I’ll try to use my mobile as a WiFi hotspot if I need to start a game when travelling.
I need an idiots guide, so maybe expect more stupid questions from me on here.
