@JoeDiddley I think Blizzard intended the campaign mode to be the introduction for people new to the game, and the other modes are intended for people who've already learned about the game by playing the campaign. So I'd recommend new players who don't want a lot of hassle to start with Campaign mode. By all means try the other modes if you want, but it's just more likely you'll run into confusing things, since the other modes are designed with the assumption that you already know how to play.
@diwdiws Would you like a trophy if we can verify your PC Master Race credentials? Just send a check or money order, you'll receive your trophy and a signed Certificate of Platform Choice along with an Official Seal.
This game has been on consoles since, what, 2014? It's a little late to be lamenting the loss of a "PC exclusive." I'd be more worried about Blizzard presenting Diablo: Mobile Whale Farm Edition as the next big thing before wasting breath lamenting modern "this is just a PC without a desktop OS" consoles.
I played Diablo 1 through 4 doomed serial mice on a Pentium 1. I played Diablo II + LoD over and over on a PII, and later an Athlon Thunderbird. I played Diablo III on PS4, X1X, and now Nintendo Switch. It's still Diablo. The same Diablo. Honestly with how convenient they made the console controls, it makes clicking everywhere seem like a chore. The same can't be said for the so-so controls of Titan Quest on console.
@JoeDiddley Season characters are an online thing more or less. I think there's ways to kind of nudge it to work, but the point of seasons is really online (that wasn't a launch feature, that was a free addition in recent years.) The whole point of "seasons" is to add something like CoD and online shooters that gives you an online reason to reset periodically. Similar to hardcore characters, that character is permanantly for that game mode.
You'll want a new lvl1 normal character for your offline play, probably. Which is probably not a big deal, as ideally, you'll want to play all classes to experience the skill trees of all of them, so most people have a bunch of characters anyway. Seasons are more about keeping it fresh for replays. @Bilboa has it right, the first run through the campaign orients you to the locations, order, etc. Subsequent modes are kind of mash-ups that assume you know the "normal" order and dont' mind shaking it up.
I chose the season option when creating my character as a bonus option to dip my toe in when ready. I’ll definately stick with the campaign for now to learn the ropes as you suggest.
But I’ve already restarted once so I’ll plough on. That way it’ll be fun to try new characters when I’m more familiar with the game - rather than as a consequence of my lack of familiarity! 😊
I created a Barbarian for pure offline, and made it through the first part just to get the save going. But I just use sleep mode anyway so it's not like I'll have to restart the game from scratch and need online to get through the menu, and if I do I can connect through my phones hotspot, or just start it at home before I leave and put it in sleep mode.
@Octane
A real hall-of-famer it was, lol... the perfect word combination. I doubt I'll see another one that good for quite a while 😂

how do you use gems and can they be changed out ???
had the game three days now and never played any of the others so no experience with it
there was no actual tutorial (that I could find)
I have a buttload of gems and plenty of equipment with open slots for gems, just don't know what/how to do
any help ???

I am amazed why DF did not mention the static background at the top of Bastion Keep. They usually see such little things and include them in their analysis.
Are Diablo 3 (Switch) servers separate from Nintendo Direct ???
I refuse to get ND, but would love to hang on Diablo if I don't have to go through Nintendo
@Nemodius Basically you can apply gems to socketed equipment to enhance the equipment with attributes specific to the gem type, level, rarity, etc. Only the jeweler can unsocket them however. There used to be a gold fee to unsocket them but IIRC, that's actually free now. You won't meet the jeweler until chapter 2.
If you mean Nintendo Switch Online, then yes, online multiplayer play requires a subscription (all games that aren't F2P/Freemium do.) However offline local and wireless multiplayer, single player and Seasons (played offline but using the online service portion for the seasons-specific and leaderboard content) can be played without a subscription. But you can't play with other people online without the Nintendo subscription required to play any game with anyone online.
Not sure whether to buy this. Played it a bit on the PS4, although without all the dlc. Might take advantage of the switch online trial week at the same time and try out the muiltiplayer.
Switch: Dragon Quest Builders 2, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Valkyria Chronicles, Shin Megami Tensei
PC: Farming Simulator 22
@Wheyo Just the campaign. That's the "main" game the first time through. The other stuff is fun after you've internalized the normal structure by heart.
@Wheyo Honestly Adventure mode unless you really care about the story. But if you are just looking to run around and have fun killing things and such then Adventure mode is what I would suggest.

Thanks both! I’d like to do the campaign first but I don’t want to sit through long cutscenes and tutorial parts for too long as I think it may ruin the fun with a group of us newbies playing for the first time. At the same time, I don’t want to spoil the campaign by going straight for adventure mode as I will definitely play the campaign on my own afterwards.
