Folks, just a quick PSA, cause I see a lot of people doing the opposite.

If you’re farming a Rift, then absolutely stick together.

For a bounty party, however, each person grabs a different location (out of the 5 in the Act.) This method is much more efficient.

Started my first game with the necromancer, which seems like a fun character to play with. I’ve had fun so far!

I can't say this is my Switch GotY quite yet, although it's certainly in the realm of possibility according to what I've played thus far.

I'm being slightly tongue-in-cheek. It just happens to be one of my favorite games from one of my favorite franchises, and it runs flawlessly on the Switch. But I agree with your point that this has been another stellar year for the Switch.

@jaxonh i don't know, torna counts. Souls, great as it as, is kind of dated feeling, and I'm feeling more and more the camera is garbage. If it were ds3 it might be harder to compare. Diablo 3 is wonderful and it's unimaginable having my old faithful pc series on a Nintendo handled. But it's still a 6 year old game that's been on consoles for years. Not really goty material even if it's and amazing port. Mhgu or torna really have the place to beat for top spot. Mhgu isn't new per se, but it is in the West. Civ 6 isn't new but the first console port counts. But we all know smash wins by default, and rdr2 on the other boxen for the same reasons.

Played a little same-screen multiplayer with my son, and it's great. I had to set up a profile for him on my Switch, otherwise he could only play as a "guest", and his progress wouldn't be saved.

@NEStalgia
Well, I believe it was stated we were talking about "Switch GotY" not "GotY". Official GotY would mean new releases only, but for this, we're just talking about what our personal game of the year on the system is. And if I haven't played a game, I'm not really concerned with how old it is or whether it's a port. Even if I have played a game, it could still end up being my GotY just because of how much I enjoy it with the new benefits it gains being on the new system it's on.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is like, one of the best video games I've ever played... On any system. I think there's agreement between us that that's probably going to be the game that claims the spot for Switch. But I personally have no beef with Diablo 3 and Dark Souls being in the running. Even if the games did exist prior, getting a first ever HD handheld-console-portable console tribrid version is a pretty big deal, and could potentially bring more enjoyment than any other game. And hey, if I enjoy a portable Dark Souls more than any other game all year long, then I think it deserves credit for that. And I think there's a lot of hardcore Souls fans who were more excited for Dark Souls on an HD hybrid than pretty much any other game releasing this year. And I think the same applies for Diablo 3 (you might be one of them, Idk?).

But ya, "officially" it's Red Dead. Smash is out of the official running being a Dec 7 release. For most Switch fans though, it's the definite GotY.

Playing with a single JoyCon works surprisingly well. Blizzard did a great job. I played with my two boys, and it's great fun. Very chaotic — I kept losing track of my character to the constant amusement of my son. Going back to town is a bit of drag because everybody else has to wait for each player to manage his inventory and assign skills, but I don't know a way around that.

@JaxonH Ahh good point. Still, if I were picking a platform favorite, I'm not sure I'd include the older games. MHGU, sure, it's pretty Switch exclusive, different from XX 3DS, and XX 3DS didn't even exist outside Japan. D3 is the same D3....which is a good thing. But hard to include in a "platform favorite" lineup for a year. Then again, I'm biased with my perception of Diablo. It was eating my serial mice over 20 years ago. (D1 was infamous for mice breaking. It didn't have "hold button to attack"....you had to click for every sword swing! Later editions came bundled with a mouse and a statement of "you're going to need this"

Yesterday I wanted to play diablo in the train, saved some battery by turning my switch off, but then I couldnt play as there was no internet. Do you really need internet to initiate the game? There was an error that seasonal data was not available every time I wanted to start, when I turned my hotspot on for it, it worked.

I haven't figured out all the particulars, but it seems that season character play can only be initiated while online, but once you start, you can go offline and continue playing. You just get a warning that your progress offline is not eligible for the leaderboard, which I personally don't care about anyway. So if you plan on being away from a WiFi connection, just start your season character game before you leave the house, and you should be fine.

You know, I miss the good ol' days when stuff like this would have been explained in the manual, and we wouldn't have to figure it out ourselves through trial and error.

Having never played any game like this before I’m really enjoying it so far.

Although I did decide to restart as a Wizard, after struggling with the Necromancer class. I’m glad I did rather than struggling along. Hopefully I can try that class again when I’m more familiar with the game.

@Mountain_Man thanks, I’ll just make sure that I start the game at home or make a hotspot for a minute.

Necro does seem to be a more a nuanced character than the Wizard who is pretty easy to turn into a magic cannon.

@Mountain_Man ha, that’s the plan (for my first run through)!

@MSTRDM such an inverse of d2 where sorc was brutal to play until act v, and necro was a tank

Played some more at work today. Really starting to get hooked. I bumped the difficulty up to HARD, and it does take a little bit longer to kill enemies but it makes it feel like more of a challenge. Thank goodness for those armor pieces that replenish life per second and per hit because I took some pretty big hits that gashed away a third of my health bar in a split moment.

I have a question for you Diablo experts. I have a Legendary helm piece, and it has a "slot" for what assume to be gemming in decorations like Monster Hunter. The reason I know it has a slot is because the armor pieces description says that it boosts the effect of whatever goes into the slot by like 91%.

However, I cannot figure out how to access that slot or how to put anything in it or anything related to it whatsoever. I thought it might be the Enchant feature, so I spent all my money upgrading the witch person to Level 8, which did unlock enchanting for some pieces. But it seems that is nothing more than exchanging one of the stats for a different RNG roll of a stat? Idk. And I could do it on more armor pieces than just the helm that had the slot.

So what is this whole slot thing about and how do I go about it? Also, should I keep leveling the witch up until I can enchant all the armor pieces at level 12? I want to save up for the Ganondorf armor to transmog, and it's been quite expensive upgrading her.

Speaking of which, it's a lot of money for that Ganon transmog. Is it viable? I mean, by the time you save up all that money and buy the transmog, it's only going to last for a little while because you outgrow your equipment as you get better equipment. Right? And then you're going to have to pay 50,000 gold each just to do it all over again a few hours later? That doesn't seem legit AT ALL. I made the mistake of paying to unlock a transmog, and then I changed back to my original head piece, and the one I paid to unlock had a price on it again like I had to pay every single time I wanted to change it... that doesn't seem worthwhile.

@Sahpradani
I think there's a forum for exchanging friend codes
