Beat the gargoyles last night but didn't even have the time to ring the bell. Took some doing but once you figure them out it just becomes a balance of keeping them together and trying to avoid their fire. I came down to one hit for me and one for them and because it kept blowing fire it were pretty easy when down to one again. Also did it without using the drake sword!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@MisterMan Thanks! But I guess it will be getting tougher and tougher the farther I go. I’m in the Depths now, so guess the legendary Blighttown is near.

Yup well its not mandatory to go to blightown next but you should
Obviously already thrown a few tips about Blighttown and whilst there are a million more I could offer, i’ll save ruining the experience (again you can find guides everywhere if it drives you crazy) aside from these quick/easy general tips;
1.) Listen. Sound is massively under appreciated. The layout in Blight-o is... Let’s say unique? Listening for sounds/direction of them can make a huge difference.
2.) Take it slow. It’s easy to panic & become overwhelmed first time out. The whole environment is pretty tense and almost forces you to rush through - take a second to catch a breath when you can, reset, and carry on at your own pace - there’s no rush.
3.) One enemy type has a super frustrating ‘grab-attack’. I consider telling you this to be a bit spoiler-y but it’s one of the few parts of the game I consider to be really cheap; make sure to keep a reasonable distance during wind-up and watch/observe them first time out - it’s got a pretty obvious tell and was much easier to avoid when not fighting the 360-15fps combo!
4.) If you’re a dex build, there’s a pretty good sword here you can pick up - don’t be afraid to get naked!
5.) Certain enemies (thankfully!) don’t respawn after bonfires. You’ll know which ones and be ever so thankful.
6.) Bonfire before loot. Kinda standard but big importance here! Also be wary near the bonfire as it may not be as safe as you’d think/like.
@zionich I guess this isn’t your first playthrough?
It’s my first time playing a Souls game and though the difficulty makes it really tough sometimes, I still feel it’s not the game’s fault. It’s me who screws up and needs to get better, and therefore it feels so amazing when a hard boss finally is beaten.

Absolutely my favourite part of it too! There are a couple of places that it can feel slightly cheap (like the grab attack I mentioned earlier, not to mention some infamous archers you’ll encounter later), but they’re mostly at a minimum in DS. As much as I love the sequels I don’t think they’re always quite as fair with it (yes, I’m looking at you DS2 with your sometimes ridiculous groups of enemies).
Have fun in BT - once you get over the initial shock (& panic from the status effect) it’s not all that bad.
Not quite related to DS1, but everyone enjoyed a certain area of Ds3 that I didn't get to since I had no reference for it. I can't wait to understand that area better
