So, who's excited for playing the actual game then?
Me! I finally watched the most recent trailer and promptly scheduled PTO.

Bayo1 is legitimately good, but Bayo2, at least imo, is better in every way. The first had some issues with QTE difficulty spikes that demanded you respond immediately or fail the QTE. They're not that frequent, but it is something Bayonetta 2 was much better about. Less of them and more time to respond.
If Bayo1 is an 8/10, Bayo2 is a 10/10 (though Ive run out of scale, which is a problem since I suspect Bayo3 will be even better)
Start with Bayo2, if you can. Just my advice. I wouldn't want Bayo1 to turn you off of the franchise due to some of its rougher edges.

Now that everyone can cast their guilt aside, it's rising even further. So not only is the game not losing any notable sales from the controversy now, it's purely benefiting from all the publicity.
This has been such a blessing in disguise, and may prove to be the catalyst which finally propels Bayonetta to the success it deserves.
Only loser in all this is Helena Taylor. And... despite what she did, I wish her well. Hope she's able to come to terms with her resentment and live a happy and fulfilling life. I'm grateful for her contributions and she'll always be remembered for her work.
Moving forward though, Jennifer Hale is now our Bayonetta.

I mean breaking an NDA is a good way to get you blacklisted anyways. As would pushing people to boycott your former employer, especially in such a public way immediately before launch. Even if what had happened was exactly as described, and it seems as though it was not, it was still a dumb move. Nothing positive could have come out of it for her

I just want Kamiya to be like “soooooo, Nintendo just greenlit Bayo4 after the dust settled.”

Can someone try to sell me on this franchise I’m not getting it day one regardless because I already went Christmas shopping. However I know this franchise is loved by millions and would like to know why.
@Eagly The legacy of the "stylish action" genre was grand fathered by Hideki Kamiya. Originally designed and intended as an entry in the Resident Evil series because Kamiya thought the RE games lacked action, Devil May Cry was instead made into its own series. And since Kamiya formed his own studio, character action games have been a hallmark of Platinum Games. Often imitated but never duplicated (God of War, Ninja Gaiden Black, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, etc) Platinum Games brand of action is usually top shelf.
@Eagly
Have you played The Wonderful 101 or Astral Chain?
I wouldn't rate them as high as Bayonetta, and each have their own unique gimmicks whereas Bayo is more pure action. But they are both really good.
After you play Bayo 1-3, if you're still thirsty for more Platinum Games action, I highly recommend these two. W101 has a fixed camera view and takes a bit to click, but once it does... wow. What a game. And I will die on the hill of W101 having the most ludicrously hilarious moment during the ending of any game I've ever played.

Saw this in one of those "tap to next page" news articles your phone has on the left side.
Thought it looked pretty cool.
Also, this guy got an early copy and has beaten the game, and has some thoughts.
Bottom line, despite not agreeing with others who felt Bayonetta 2 was a masterpiece, and personally liking Astral Chain more, he says Platinum did it. It's the best action game he's ever played and doesn't hesitate to call Bayonetta 3 a masterpiece.

One of the amusing ironies in all this is that the people who tried to pump up the value of a lead VA in games. Almost to the point where you'd think that the VA was pretty much the only game in town. Quite literally when this first broke out I read some hot-take on twitter where someone was trying to say they play games for "the story" not the "pew pew" and that therefore the VA was the most important thing
.......... the huge Irony is that Bayonetta 3 is a Nintendo exclusive game. You know, Nintendo. The one developer/publisher/platform holder that's infamous for their general lack of voice actors in their games. The company who's most vocal fans will, myself included, whine incessantly about the value of gameplay over everything else. The corner of the gaming universe where pre-rendered cutscenes and quick time events took the longest time to reach. The company who's most iconic characters only ever seem to say "heeyyaa" and "yahoo"
You're telling people on THAT platform that the VA is the most important part of the game? That a game's main worth is as an interactive podcast? I mean maybe you can convince the people who brought and enjoyed Other M of that, but good luck with most of us
I thought I commented on this before but I guess I didn't due to all the other hubbub.
I do really dislike the idea someone plays games for the story mainly too as I find the general level of writing and plotting incredibly poor in video games. However I disagree voice acting is automatically part of the storytelling, people rave about the stories in Zelda which was almost exclusively done by text until BOTW which finally had voice acting only for people to complain there's no story (even though it's about the same amount of story just told in a different manner) or Final Fantasy 7 where whatshername dies is often cited as a major moment in all of gaming stories which was done without voice acting. I can name other examples but you get the gist of storytelling can and has been done without voice acting.
I find the over use of the same voice actors in similar roles tends to hinder things for me, you hear the good guy from the other game so you trust them or you hear the bad guy from the other game so you don't trust them rather being earned through the storytelling, it's like when you see Mark Strong in a movie so you wait for him to be revealed to be the antagonist. Some smarter casting against type would do wonders for me so it subverts my expectations rather than waiting for the plot points to be played out.
Whilst there has been some really stand out voice acting I find for me voice acting is another tool to flesh out the game to give it personality so it's closer to the sound effect quirk when Mario hits a question mark block or a game using pixel art to convey it's gonna be old skool rather than powerful performances to show nuances and emotions of the story.
I can't believe. Now she is just hard-selling this story. She still shamelessly comes up with new lies, telling people to invest their money in charities instead of buying the game. It's so pathetic. By behaving like this, she is completely destroying her non-existent career. I hope Platinum teaches her a lesson.
In other more different news Nintendo has a 10% off discount on the eShop for NSO+ members which includes game vouchers. I was planning on grabbing a voucher for Bayonetta to play this weekend...... but the deal starts November 1st
Some real willpower required here. Will my love of a good bargain be enough to overcome having to wait just that little bit longer?
