Got it on Friday, immediately did the Gran Prix and rank 4. Min Min gave me such a hard time.

But dang, do I get whooped at ranked. Twintelle gave me alot of trouble.

Poyo! <3

hopefully Arms can sell a few million switch systems. if the switch manages to sell over 6 million this year it will look really attractive to 3rd party developers

@meleebrawler he seems to be vulnerable to the next hit where other characters aren't though.

Might be more relevant against lv5+ ai though. Yikes, lv5....

And i don't think using stage features counts as dashing twice

I have such a hard time with the ai in particular pretty much never getting specials use wrong.... It's always during an opening where humans may get it wrong. And they block grabs way more than real human reflexes can.

@shani yeah latency. Real or not, esports types believe in it and 100% of competition grade controllers and especially fight sticks are wired only as a result. even the official pro controller supports wired use specifically to cater to splatoon and probably arms esports. It's why the cables in the box.

Tho for competition, there's a lot of wireless devices competing..... inputs might get lost. Treehouse was using modded weird joycons on the convention floor due to that.

Tbh honest I always assumed the cable was only there for charging the controller. ^^

Unless we're talking about something like E3 where a lot of controllers and mobile phones are active, I don't think signals can be lost with today's wireless hardware.
But regarding the wired Joycons at E3: the Treehouse Staff said these were there for development reasons. Maybe something like Dev-Kits.

My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!

@NEStalgia Yeah, I know, and it does give him some problems dealing with certain flurries, like chakrams or tri-shots. But also means his guard technically cannot be broken (only by disabling an arm through damage) and avoids all chip damage.

An easy tip for using flurries on the AI: wait for them to jump. They put little to no effort in dodging them, always attempting to block instead, so in the air they are wide open. For those with advanced air mobility, wait for them to exhaust their options or attack before unleashing.

And if Byte jumps off Barq to air-dash twice, does that count? Speaking of, it turns out you CAN control the latter to a certain extent. Someone here mentioned Barq moving directly in front of Byte when he is guarding, and if you air-dash towards him while being reasonably close, he'll (try to) automatically position himself for you to jump off of.

It is inevitable for the Switch to sell 6 million consoles by the end of they year. I would be shocked if they didn't. I believe the current number is resting around the 4 million mark.

Unfortunately I don't know if ARMs is going to be a "system-seller". I pre-ordered it and I'm having quite a bit of fun, but definitely think it could use a few more characters and stages (which I believe it will) just to make it feel more like a complete experience. It will definitely increase the attach rate of games though.

ARMS reached number 2 in the "Individual" and "All Formats" UK charts.

@shani Personally, I'm tremendously glad Biff doesn't have that voice in the game. I hated the voice in the introductory videos and would have hated it even more if I had to hear it every time I played. That cheesy "old-time newscast" voiceover annoys me every time I watch the Legend of Korra and it's one of the reasons I never got into Star Wars: the Clone Wars. It's like nails on a blackboard to me.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

@Linoshi I can see that being an issue in London, but luckily for us in the USA, everywhere is air conditioned indoors...When I visited London in the Summer I was dying since most places didn't use air conditioning, I stayed in Harrods one day for like 3 hours just for the a/c haha

@CorvoRevo Yeah I will do what I can to help against global warming, but giving up my A/C just isn't going to happen.

One problem I have with this game, is when I'm concentrating and focused on something I have to react to, I seem to have a habit of crushing, forcibly, whatever is in my hands (I do the same to musical instruments ), so I play this game non-stop crushing the controller full strength. When playing handheld that means it's combounded by the fact that you have to squeeze the controller to block (press in on left stick)....so the game is actively encouraging me to crush harder and harder. After each round, my hands end up very sore I think I'll have to limit it to shorter bursts or such.

@shani Yeah I was surprised that Biff is not only "Animal Crossing sounds" but is even very very lean on those. After they hyped him up in the PR directs, I thought he was going to be a meaningful character of some sort. I think the voice they used in the US would have become annoying, but I assumed SOEMTHING like that was going to be there. It was a bit disappointing in that regard.

Just bought the game from Asda for £45. I'm Looking forward to playing it once I'm home.

@NEStalgia In the Direct that introduced Biff, he mentions that he is ''usually pretty quiet''. Maybe they were trying to say in a roundabout way ''I don't talk like this in the game''.

@meleebrawler Good catch, I think you're right! Though I still expected more than an occasional "doi-oi-oi-oi-oing" sound

  • The prototype had characters holding hookshot things to shoot things out, but it didn't feel right, so they made it shoot out from shoulders instead.
  • Character design is based on "what the game is meant to be at a glance" with the arms being very expressive. The characters had to have a lot of personality since they are mostly viewed from the back.
  • Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, and Master Mummy were the first characters created
  • They can't just endlessly create characters. Instead of "making wildly different stuff" they made 10 characters that were "strong and distinctive."
  • There's more content additions and they have a secret specific number. If ARMS is still popular and people want more characters, Yabuki will think about it
  • More lore will be explained as time goes on
  • Dragon Ball and Akira influenced the design

Inb4 everyone goes ''not One Piece?''.

Joking aside, you can certainly see the Dragon Ball influence, what with the tournament setting and the yellow aura flaring up on flurries.

I'm really enjoying this game. I've decided Ninjara is my main guy. Currently playing the single player 10 fights mode, so far I haven't had any problems. Volleyball is so fun!

The game feels extremely satisfying to play. I find myself wanting to feel the satisfying vibration when a punch connects. As much as I wanted to play with the motion controls, I am too panicky to master them, so I'm sticking to button controls for the time being.

NEStalgia

@Operative2-0 I was just going to post similar about motion controls. I've been playing mostly handheld so I haven't spent much time trying motion. Tonight I committed to spending some time on motion and OMG there's simply no hope for me whatsoever. I think motion controls are for people that are very well coordinated. There's a reason I can't play piano. I have no coordination whatsoever. Finger coordination yes, Hand/arm coordination no. When one arm moves right, both arms move right...when I turn one, I turn both, when I punch with one the other punches right after, and when I go to turn left with one, the other punches. By the end I'm basically waggling like I'm playing the DK bongos, and the joycons are wildly swinging above my head more than once If these things were corded, I'd be wrapped up like Master Mummy. Note to all: If you're not very coordinated, don't even attempt motion controls

Fortunately button controls really control great!

I'm finding the AI plays REALLY different from humans. Against the AI in Lv5 the only one I seem to be making progress with is mechanica. But online in party mode I seem to do better with anyone BUT mechanica. Different set of mains online than solo for me it seems. I can't do SQUAT with Ninjara against the AI....destroyed again and again. But online I can do pretty well with him. I think Ribbon and Ninjara have their tricks based in tricking the human mind.....the AI reading our inputs can't be tricked by Ninjara's puff of smoke, but humans, even advanced players can get confused and guess wrong. Min Min is useless against AI for me but online I was tearing through with her. Not sure why that's working for that one...no perception tricks there.

I haven't set foot in ranked again....I need to get familiar with more characters first. Online I'm liking Ribbon, Min Min, Ninjara, Cobra. But I just can't let go of Ribbon, my Testpunch main....
