Anybody know how a friend can join the lobby I'm in? If we choose friend match it's just us, and that sucks! A real shame if there isn't an option like this!
Deflecting grabs (especially aerial ones) with a punch seems harder than it should be. I feel like I just have to dodge instead, because that actually works consistently. This may be part of why people like to grab so much.
Grab spam aside, though, the unlock requirement for ranked mode definitely seems to ensure a certain quality of players. I haven't been winning much!
@Zyrac The closer your opponent gets, the harder it is to "block" grabs due to how targeting works. So either we need to improve our keepaway games, or bring arms with large or vertical coverage to compensate.
...And of course level 1 is way too easy...anyways recorded that, and uploaded...so...yeah. Not gonna bother with posting it here right now because I'm lazy. lol

Keep it PG-13-ish.
@meleebrawler i feel like zoning is mandatory to prevent grabs. Hard in spring mans map though.
I'm amazed that Yabuki-san devastated In the invitational using motion controls.... that's insane!
I'm finding blocking on pro controller a lot hurts my hands after a while. Joycon is better in that regard. Almost makes me want to master motion
I'm stunned at how good the ranked base is. I was getting pwned by snails and lolipops like nothing. Im ALMOST to pinwheel. Oddly i felt like the lv4s it put me against arms easier than most lv1s...... it was weird. It's like these guys have played for months though!
@Joeynator3000 heh, it really is making SFII look like a kids game. The depth and difficulty is surreal. It's like an NES game
So my wife ended up purchasing the game because she had cash credit at target. She got the game for 35 dollars. I played a match with the motion controls and it felt horrible to me. I will try the game again with normal gamepad control hopefully that works better for me. My kids did have a blast with it though. They played co-op grand prix mode and they enjoyed it.
Yeah didn't feel responsive enough for me. Kinda felt a little slow paced and boring initially. I might have to try standard controls and see how that plays out for me.

I just dipped my toes into ranked this morning, and yes, the battles were intense. Particularly one against Kid Cobra, we often got into these slugfests where our fists kept clashing as he leapt towards me. He tried to rush me down with his punches (it's a bit weird to think such a strategy exists in a game focused on extendable arms), so that I'd try to block them and be vulnerable to his grabs. I often managed to sneak in hits with my Phoenix, and later in the fight used the threat of Spring Man's shockwave to deter assaults. That's great thing about fighting games with minimal focus on combos, it really lets you stay engaged and able to analyze your opponent's strategy.
On an AI note, they seem rather bad at dealing with the dragon arms. They almost always try to avoid it by jumping and air-dashing leaving themselves vulnerable to the still-active hitbox on the way down.
Part of me feel like arms should of been released in autumn or winter. We are currently having a bit of a heatwave in England and its incredibly hard to play much of the game without getting too hot.
I'm looking forward to playing this game, buying it tomorrow after work. One of my close friends already has it, he bought the yellow joy-cons with it too. I'm just buying the game, the yellow joy-cons don't interest me.
@meleebrawler yeah, I'm finding that getting in close is really advantageous...... and dangerous. Especially for grabs and slower arms. I'm working on lv5 ai now before going ranked again. Ninjara was owning me online.... But i still sick as him. His vanishing act on block arms to leave him vulnerable to the next hit.
@Linoshi not sure they "intend" it to be played with motion. They advertise it that way because its most unique and fun to the wide market, but we all know any esports (PR invitationals aside) will be using wired pro controllers
It'd love to see the list of voice actors. I think mechanica is the kids from botw. And Max brass is DK i bet. Ribbon girl sounds familiar, butt i can't place from where. I love that the singer of the main theme second verse is her
Edit: mobile typing sucks.....i get the weirdest typos. Nougat made it worse!
@NEStalgia You can control which way Ninjara warps after a guard by holding a direction, which should help avoid followups. Be mindful of the state of your opponent's arms before you try to counter, though!
All characters can do essentially the same thing by dashing just after blocking attacks. Difference for Ninjara is that it is automatic and he goes further than most.
Also it turns out every character can dash twice in the air, but only Ribbon Girl and Twintelle can pull it off without the assistance of trampolines. And for everyone but Twintelle, the second dash barely keeps you up in the air, so you plummet while dashing.

Why would they? Are you referring to that myth of latency with wireless controllers? That problem was fixed a long time ago (probably 10-15 years). Some pro players in some games might still prefer wired controllers, but there's no rational reason for that. I don't think anyone plays Splatoon with a wired controller either.

About the VA: Is anyone else disappointed that Biff has no voice acting in the game? Despite him talking in all the promotional trailers? I don't get how they could do that. I was totally expecting him commentator to have VA... he's the commentator, after all.
But I agree on touchscreen typing. That's why I prefer phones with hardware keyboards.
