Well, I don't know what I'm doing wrong then. I push the snowballs together, and they don't join, so then I try to reposition them, and suddenly the bottom snowball hops on top after barely touching it. It has happened to me at least three times. Very frustrating.
@Mountain_Man Yeah, the only problems I have ever had is that sometimes for reasons I still don't know I will push the head into the body, but instead of building a snowman they will just bump into each other and stay snowballs, which sounds like your problem. And then unfortunately the extra rolling to try again makes the head too big so I have to roll it over to the beach to shrink it back down before trying again. But I've never had the body accidentally go on top of the head. I'm guessing you just need a bigger head start than I was giving, which is why it's good to make the head a little smaller than you think it should be because it will grow when you push it over to the body.
@Mountain_Man Wow you can have the bottom snowball be on top? I didn't know that. It's never happened to me before, but yeah I can definitely imagine it being insanely frustrating.
I took a look at my Switch screenshots and maybe this will help. By making sure the snowballs are relatively close to each other, I have the body be as tall as slightly below the top of my character's ear, and the head as tall as where the cheek is. It's been working for me ever since I failed time and time again to make a perfect snowboy. Best of luck.

I use the time method. Roll (does NOT include kicking!) the bottom ball for 17 seconds and roll the top ball for 12. Works best for me and hopefully it can help someone else.

@BrittGOAL14 That sounds a lot better than my method. Every time I made a snowboy I continually checked the snowball so I wouldn't make it too big. So it was kinda tedious, admittedly. Does it still work while you're turning the snowball?

tl;dr;
1. Roll body until it's as big as it can get and you can hardly push it anymore
2. Roll second snowball until it comes to roughly the same height as half way up your avatars ears. Move camera low while standing next to the snowball to check
3. Put together for perfect Snowboy!

Yeah, I must be doing something terribly wrong then, because I just tried building a snowman, had two perfectly sized snowballs, and they wouldn't join. The bottom just kept getting pushed away from the top until it collided with a cliff wall and broke apart.
@Mountain_Man I’ve had this occur when the bottom snowball is too close to some flowers or another object. Because both snowballs end up moving when they connect (the bottom one only a little), I think they require quite a lot of space. It’s a little frustrating, because you typically want your snowman to be somewhere unobstructive rather than sitting in the middle of a path, but I suppose beggars can’t be choosers.
I’ve also been using the “max out the bottom ball and bring the top ball up to around your ears” method, and it’s been working well.
I also discovered that if you talk to a melting (perfect) snowman, they’ll give you another big snow crystal (but not another recipe), meaning you can get several big snow crystals every day! I’m sure most people know this, but I thought it was a maximum of one big crystal each day, and only if you built a perfect snowman. Turns out they’re gifts that keep giving.
@BrittGOAL14 Thanks! I might try your method out when I come back to this game. (I've been taking a break from NH.) As I said earlier, I managed to get all the snowboy DIYs already so I won't feel any pressure if I do it. Guess I've been overthinking this whole thing the entire time.

I used the pathway method to get a perfect one everytime but it's still way more hassle for the recipes given so I just gave up in the end.
I was really disappointed with the Christmas and New Year stuff all together.

Alright, so I finally got my second perfect snowman. I had to build him in an obnoxious spot away from any other objects. Funny thing is, my island is so covered with trees that the snowballs only spawn in one area, so I have limited room for snowmen.
I am actually kind of sad now. After doing all the Holiday events, from Halloween through New Years, and my Birthday on Jan 5th, it now feels like there's nothing left to do in this game.
I want another update. XD
Nintendo sure seemed to suggest they were planning to continue to support the game. So I assume more is coming. But I lack patience.
