@D-Star92, thanks again for visiting! I'll let you take as long as you'd like to think of possible dates and times for me visiting your island, and then I can check my calendar and see if they work. Since that big update is coming out next year, I won't be putting this game on hiatus again anytime soon.
Also, I just now completed my fossil collection! 🎉 And you have a good night as well.

V 3.0.0 is available now! And the Switch 2 Edition should be out sometime tomorrow. I've already updated and will definitely play some today. As for the Switch 2 Edition, I'll probably upgrade once I get my Switch 2 hopefully sometime this year, since it's only $5.

I tried the update. I don't get the point of this. I've already played the Happy Home Paradise DLC to boredom, there's literally nothing new about decorating these simple hotel rooms. This feels like a cheap minimum effort update to get some media attention. And before someone says "it's free", sure. Doesn't make it good.
wait so do we know what time the actual Switch 2 Edition arrives? i want my first venture into this new update to have the highest quality looks possible, so gotta wait for that!!! sooo excited!!

I already designed the first two rooms at the new hotel. It won't let me do any more until tomorrow 😅.

Resetti being able to get rid of roaches in your house is yet more sanding down of any consequences you would face for not playing the game consistently. It saddens me that every update they smooth down every rough edge these games have- all until there'll eventually be nothing left but the decorating aspect of this game. I'll probably check out the update, but I hate seeing this series I used to love just become a sandbox decorator where you are given the power of a God.

@VoidofLight What really sucks about this update as well is that the Hotel just magically appears once you install the update. No buildup, no planning or even dialogue pre-empting it, it’s just there on your island whether you like it or not. Isabelle just matter of fact states they built a hotel to attract tourists. And there’s the bare minimum context before you’re asked to just do more decoration…
Nintendo keeps sanding down every series I loved. There’s hardly anything left.
@OmnitronVariant That's nothing new with this game. They are allergic to having proper progression systems in New Horizons, or having the player actually have to work on getting features unlocked. It's just wild that New Leaf did everything right, and then this game came along and went into a polar opposite direction.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@VoidofLight This is still a step down. At least with the other buildings there was some leadup and rationale. Even the café required you to at least locate Brewster. This is just install update > here's your thing.
Not that it's its biggest issue. The fact that the content is just more decorating in a simplified version of HHP is just... bizarre. Feels so phoned in.
I have a feeling if I played Stardew Valley or some other wildly beloved game in this genre, and got into it, the overwhelming praise for New Leaf would go from "mild confusion" to "gigantic eye roll" from me.
I have a surprisingly mid reaction to Animal Crossing as a whole considering I built my online persona on it, and I just kinda accept its limitations, since some of the things I wanted updated the most has never happened and in some ways have gone backwards (especially the villagers), while the changes have mostly just been kinda cute or mildly disappointing. I'm not sure I'll go back to New Horizons, but if I get it on Switch 2 with actually tolerable loading screens (maybe my number 2 issue with New Horizons) along with the retro games and how I barely touched the game after the 2021 update despite being the weirdo that liked Happy Home Designer more than New Leaf, that might finally drag me back to it.
Only issue is that this year, more than most, I have a large amount of games to get through, so it'd be difficult to justify playing New Horizons again unless it was like...a secondary thing played between other games.
@kkslider5552000 For me, I only really like Animal Crossing. Someone recommended Stardew for me, but I quit about 11 hours in because I just didn't click with it at all. Same with a lot of farming sims, they just don't appeal. A lot of Animal Crossing-like games also don't really appeal either. The reason I liked New Leaf particularly was because it felt like the pinnacle of what Animal Crossing used to be, and New Horizons just felt like a major step down from that because it sanded the games down to a point where it no longer felt like you really were managing or taking care of a town. It no longer felt like it captured that microcosm of life that the previous games managed to capture.

The complainer of ACNH.
If you don't like ACNH, just go back play the GameCube version and torture yourself with archaic gameplay.
I don't even like the archaic older Animal Crossing games which forcing you play the game everyday or my villagers will moving out by themself.
ACNH is what I need, the power of the GOD.
I can take control the whole island and the villagers because I'm Wicked Witch of the EAST. 🤭
Oh boy, another argument about subjective aspects of games.....
Time to unfollow this thread for a weeks all over again. See y'all after this blows over.
@OctolingKing13 I just started playing New Horizons tonight. I did see the "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" icon since I also preordered the upgrade pack, but it won't let me play it until the release date. I would imagine the upgrade pack would be playable on midnight depending on what time zone you're in.

@OctolingKing13 Lol I can't blame you, I want to play it as well! You're welcome. Yeah, I remember having preorders of games I got from the eShop, which I couldn't play until midnight of their release dates. I would get those messages that say something like "the software can't be played, try again later" and I would keep trying periodically until the game finally started.

Already played the update and brought Cece to the campsite for the first time. Seeing someone look like Shiver but not act like her at all is about as funny as I thought it would be! Shiver is actually much more like a snooty villager, yet here’s Cece saying “Ohmigosh” and “trés” like the peppy she is. A normal villager like Viche is quieter and gentler than a wild child like Frye, but they DO like to talk about food.
It's weird seeing the game’s home icon change back and forth when starting and leaving.
