At a guess I would think NoA at the time was trying to paint a specific image of what the SNES was to counter Sega's marketing. Sega was pushing for the edgy, masculine, slick teen thing with their shiny black plastic. The coloured buttons didn't fit with that. NoA was wrong, the coloured buttons were great

I'm fairly confident that if they released original NA colouring for JoyCons they would sell significantly less than the Japan/PAL SNES colouring. Even in the US. And outside of the US I don't think anyone is going to pick the NA colours over the Japan/PAL colouring. I'd also note that they did the coloured buttons on other consoles since. N64, GC, New 3DS

NES is different because the NA colouring was also used in other regions. And it's also quite nice

Well, that's an interesting topic. Colours.

When the OG Switch came out, it's highly promoted colours for Joy Cons were Blue and Red . . . wasn't it? So would bring out that colour combination for Joy Cons confuse the market into thinking its just a minor upgrade or the same thing? Or does Nintendo come up with a new set of colours to differentiate the Switch 2 from OG Switch?

As for the NA SNES colour scheme, I liked it. (I'm in Canada.) And for my 8BitDo SN30 Pro controller, I got the purple buttons over the multi-coloured buttons. Now, if they had a Metroid colour scheme . . . LOL.

We’ll probably see them do new colors for the Switch 2 colored option at launch. Maybe this time they should opt for pastel colors instead of neon colors like the original Switch.

Usually I would say 3 months is crazy because you'd risk having everything about the new console being leaked before reveal. But, well, I think it's fair to say that's not something Nintendo is really worried about given the deafening silence while everything about Switch 2 is being leaked..... so...... who knows....

Plus, everyone is already aware of the Switch 2’s existence, so I don’t think they’ll even take much time to release it after the reveal.

Just to add to my bit about "everything on this thing is leaking".... photos of the motherboard complete with components now..... including cartridge slot with a Switch cartridge.... and the secondary USB Type C port on the top....

So the release would appear like it's going to be fairly soon indeed

What will that top USB-C port even be for?

Possible dual screen attachment? Camera? Or just another charging port for when it’s in tabletop mode?

There are a whole bunch of wild theories for it floating around. I think it's just for charging

Because I was also thinking it could be for USB-C headsets assuming they put voice chat straight from the Switch 2 instead of having to use the NSO app. Plus, it would be a missed opportunity to not make a dual screen attachment if they bring DS games to NSO.

Back to the motherboard thing, it appears as if Samsung is gonna be the one developing the Switch 2 motherboard.

Worth noting that the tweet you linked to is jumping to a whole bunch of conclusions. Centro isn't really a source, they're recyclers of other posts. I'm not sure there's enough in that photo to conclude it's 8nm

I was pretty skeptical about that post when I found it.

I really couldn't care less what nm the chip is if it's close to PS4 Pro performance lol.

PS4 Pro/Xbox One X performance would be for docked mode (if the dock is also gonna come with some graphical boosts and a fan). In handheld mode, Imma guess at base PS4/Xbox One levels

@GrailUK I understand where you are coming from not being too interested, but for me it’s pretty good to think about what Nintendo maybe able to accomplish with such specs. How will Nintendo push things to the limit?

@FragRed I fear folk have been speculating for so long, they have been imagining a more and more modern console than what we re getting hahaha. And that would make it Steam Deck type expensive. Now, if Nintendo can get something people turn their noses up at to run PS4 ports and miracle PS5 ports, then it sounds like the next console is going to be priced in a similar position to the Switch 1. Reckon they may have got cheap components lol. We aren't buying sports cars, just game consoles. If it does the job and isn't priced pretentiously, then I'm in. A leap is a leap. I don't need to work out how much Nintendo are making on the thing lol.

But it's imortant for power consumption/efficiency. And how hot this thing gets. Also battery life. etc.

Any thoughts on what the Switch 2 UI will look like and if it will bring anything new?

All the leaks have been hardware-related; I don't think anything about software has leaked at all so far. The UI in particular may not have been seen by anyone but the Nintendo UI team... so could be anything. I assume they will want to keep the main UI extremely fast, but they will have a lot more ram to play with so hopefully we will get something more (apart from improving the eShop which I assume is a priority).

That reminds me. I did find this article on how the Switch 2 eShop could be changed (apart from running better) and then I noticed one part caught my eye: "a universal store that operates almost akin to the AppStore in that titles displayed will run on the hardware you’re navigating the store on"

When I saw that, I asked myself this: Wouldn’t such Switch 2 universal store already be the My Nintendo Store (as well as having extra selections like purchasing hardware, accessories, other merchandise, and even the My Nintendo Rewards)? Nintendo could use that as the Switch 2 storefront if they wanted to put a universal storefront and add some extra features if they wanted to, unless the universal store part was referring to something else.

Predicting 21st March or 21st April launch for the "Switch 2". £449.99 for the more basic of the two models being offered. I don't believe that it will have backwards compatibility without a 'catch', unfortunately.

If they want to make it physically incompatible it'll have to have some kind of additional appendage. But I don't think that's particularly exciting. Because even if they don't there's nothing stopping them from doing it in software anyways. Also we know from the prototype leaks that the Switch 2 game slot will have additional pins which could easily be used for the game to detect whether it's in the Switch or Switch 2

There's also another possibility. There might not even be such a thing as a "Switch 2" game card at all. It might instead just be a higher speed card that can work on Switch, assuming the game itself can run, but can run at higher speeds on Switch 2. It's just storage at the end of the day so in theory there's no reason why a less storage intensive but more graphically complex title couldn't be Switch 2 exclusive on a Gen1 card. Or a Switch compatible game couldn't come on a Gen2 card that opens up improved load times when running on Switch 2

Coming back to this, after recently finding this post by Laura Kate Dale on Bluesky showing that Nintendo filed a patent for NVIDIA DLSS upscaling on Switch 2, I read the part saying "The example given is that a game with native 4K textures might need a 60GB download, but a 1080 native version might only need 20GB (which would allow it to fit on a 32GB Switch Cart, the current max size Nintendo produces for Switch 1)," adds Dale. "The idea being to do a 4X upscale on the device in realtime."

When I saw that, I also asked myself if not only will Switch 2 cartridges have some sort of distinction from Switch cartridges (whether it’s a notch added or just changing the pins), but if they’ll also be faster and have more storage than them (maybe somewhere near 100 GB).
