So, as we may all know, Nintendo has said they would announce the Switch 2 before the end of their current fiscal year (March 31, 2025), and here we are in October, and still no news on when it will be revealed.
Personally, I don’t think we’ll get any Switch 2 news this year, considering how the Switch has some upcoming games this month and next month, as well as the fact that Switch holiday bundles were announced last month.
This may also be the Switch’s last major holiday season, and people are saying that if Nintendo announces the Switch 2 now, they might lose Switch sales this holiday season as people will just save their money to get the Switch 2 instead.
With that, I think we’ll be getting Switch 2 news next year and probably see a schedule like this leading up to the Switch 2’s release:
January: Switch 2 announcement going over details on it (as well as its official name) and its features
April: Reveal
June: Showcase
September - November: Release
I know my predictions may be wrong, but the only reason Nintendo revealed the Switch in October 2016 was because of the Wii U’s horrible sales, so they had nothing to lose back then.
EDIT: I included the showcase into the release schedule
EDIT as of 4/8/25: Now that the reveal and Direct happened in January 16 and April 5 respectively, it’s also coming out June 5, so I decided to change the title to Switch 2 Talk.
I think late 2025 may be a little too late for release as the Switch has already well and truly died down with only a smattering of self-published releases, none of which I would describe as "blockbuster" titles (as otherwise pleased I was to see new Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Endless Ocean, and Princess Peach games).
And as you have already pointed out, it would make no sense for Nintendo to jeopardise potential holiday sales by announcing new hardware now (and they have only just released a new Switch Lite model).
I would expect an early 2025 announcement at the earliest, ideally with a mid-2025 launch, with Nintendo buffing up production in time for holiday sales to coincide with whatever blockbuster title(s) they'll have in store for us then.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

Why is it bad for people to save their money, if it means investing them on the new console just a couple of months later? Surely more Switch sales <<< more Switch 2 sales.
I really don't get the argument of Nintendo not wanting to announce the new console before the Christmas holidays.
Imo, the sooner the new console is released the better, as it will give the necessary time to people to start saving money.
I believe the only possible reason for a delay in the release of the succesor is the development of the big bangers planned to attract everyone to buy Switch 2. Maybe Mario Odyssey 2 or Mario Kart 10, or Luigi's Mansion 4, still needed a few more months in the oven, and Nintendo is waiting for them to be finished.
@MrCarlos46 With the launch the switch, and launch of the Switch Lite, V2, and the OLED models, I think insiders have said Nintendo started production of those consoles around 5 months before they launched. And supposedly, Nintendo started Switch 2 production in August-ish. That's more in line with the April/May launch window than a September window. I'm open to being wrong, but going with that until new info or directs come along.

I see the logic of your argument, and at face value it makes sense. But the context is that the holiday season is easily the greatest sales period every year. Announcing the Switch 2 beforehand would certainly cannibalize sales of Switch this holiday, hurting Nintendo's economic performance for at least December. Conversely, I don't think Switch sales will cannibalize sales of the Switch 2, no matter how late people buy the original before the announcement. So it's in their best interest for multiple reasons to just wait.

And then there’s the fact that the Switch is close to selling 150m units worldwide
Who knows if that’s actually true or it’s just him upping the number to prevent Nintendo from taking the throne from the PS2 as best-selling console worldwide
March 17, 2025 with midnight March 16, 2025 release. There's no way they will let people preorder them even though they said they have enough production volumes. I will believe this when I see it.
