@MrCarlos46 I always pre-order online for in store pickup at Best Buy. I think Target is the only other place that allows that. Gamestop has tried but most just go to the store to pre-order I guess.

Call me old-fashioned but I don't see Nintendo just releaing this on their own site to give the finger to scalpers. Losing Gamestop, BestBuy, Target, Walmart pre-orders on launch would hurt them imo.

I'll get it no matter how they choose to sell but I can't see them going the NSO route.

@LordDieALot Even if Nintendo does the NSO for My Nintendo Store preorders route, it won’t even work in the long run as scalpers could also just make multiple bot accounts getting NSO to preorder them.

It’s always a better value to wait.

This is true, but the less than 2 years I took to get a Switch in the first place meant the entire Switch generation I've barely played games the year they came out and will be catching up with even just first party games/3rd party backlog for years and years after Switch 2 comes out. So waiting even longer I'm iffy on, especially with multiplayer games where playing them when they're new is part of the appeal. (doubly so for any game that isn't a massive hit and thus might not have a large audience in 3 years)

Also the battery life should've been better on day 1 either way.

Also I've thought of another issue. Between Smash, Warriors, Zelda and Xenoblade, i don't need more Nintendo series to be drowning in endless content. People who want Mario to be open world next time need to be stopped. Mario Odyssey already killed my interest in 100% every 3D Mario, doubling down on that would suck. I want no more or possibly less Nintendo games to that absurd. Give me my 15-20 hour games instead.

@kkslider5552000 HUH? What you like isn't what others like and more people bought Mario then didn't buy. So no sure why one opinion would make one a authority of games sales. You can choose to not buy anything Nintendo while the rest will buy what they want that's what it is. But your in a minority since the market shares show clearly going the other way. But your wrong games are going going or having OpenWorld Theme so one can cry spilled milk but that is what is coming our way.

So no one here with smartphone has Nintendo App? You can make many accounts but your payments will rat you out as that will be connected to one name and you can't lie as if you do your bank will flagged as Fraud.

Yea, it's gonna be a normal release. I'm gonna preorder mine through Gamestop just like I did with the original Switch. It was painless and I got it on launch day.

Honestly, the only real solution to scalping is for people to control themselves and not buy new launches from scalpers.

After scalpers get burned for hundreds or thousands of dollars multiple times, you'd see the practice change real quick.

But then again, look at horse armor and where we are with DLC these days. People just can't help themselves from making stupid money decisions (myself included sometimes lol).

Given that Nintendo seems to be making a large stockpile, what if they do both? They could sell both via Target etc. and also directly from the Nintendo website. Which is actually what they do right now with Switch 1 (they didn't used to sell Switch directly from their website; I'm not positive when they started but they do now). If they were going to sell some from their website but most from stores, locking Nintendo.com pre-orders to NSO accounts in the same way they did Alarmo wouldn't be crazy. People who don't have NSO could just buy from stores.

If Nintendo.com is still an option, I'll go that route. The GameStop and Best Buy near me have both closed down since 2017 so I don't have any easily accessible game stores anymore.

10000%. They will most defiantly sell on Nintendo site. I never thought they would not. The exclusive only on Nintendo sold was my hang up.

Sucks to see stuff close. All the gamestops near me are gone. I have a Best Buy and that is it.

The GameStop I used to walk to as a kid closing was a sad day. So many fond Memories of that store and Nintendo 64. Ocarina and Starfox are such complete memories for me.

Given how long this thing has been in production I am not at all concerned about stock at launch. Scalpers will give it a red hot go I'm sure, but I expect they'll find themselves sitting on units that people can easily just buy at a retailer

.... unless there are colour variations with one colour being vastly more popular than Nintendo estimated. Then all bets are off

I heard alot of them closed and some were close to me driving distance that is but one that I frequent is a large seller and that is why they are still there. I'll have to if there is preorder there make it there to get those in....hopefully....

While i do still kind of hold my previous concern about some new feature like mandatory dual-screen/motion stuff or anything really that would potentially limit the choices in how games are played (yes that C button "cast" rumour made me think of this again), the reveal trailer showing the system being played the same ways a switch-1 could does alleviate some of those concerns (i guess the concerns are more because the switch is currently the only dedicated handheld console) and if dual screen gameplay was going to be a big focus i would imagine it would have been shown on that.

The mouse stuff on the other hand does seem like it would open up a lot of options such as an easier way to build levels on mario maker and other similar things while playing the game on the TV while at the same time the ability to play handheld would mean that it likely wouldn't become mandatory in a lot of games and things such as the touch screen or using the analogue stick to move the cursor will still be available.

Nintendo are probably the most anti-consumer of the big three, and seeing them bring an end to the few bones they throw to the audience like Game Vouchers and Gold Coins really sucks. I'm not looking forward to being charged 70+ quid to replay all my Switch one games in some sort of "enhanced" edition, that just ups and the resolution and framerate and does absolutely nothing else. Especially as these titles will probably never go on a meaningful sale.

We also still do not know really how powerful the Switch 2 is even going to be, rumours originally were suggesting a handheld PS4 pro, but then further rumours suggested the hardware was a lot lower spec than people expected. I honestly in 2025 have no interest really in games being upscaled to 1080p 60fps if that is what the ceiling of this console can offer, especially if I am going to be charged full price for it.

1. $70 as the new standard for Nintendo titles, which I see as the most likely outcome.
2. First-party software droughts: I don't know if I can say Switch had a single drought of Nintendo titles in its 8+ years, but there were plenty of times where I went 4-8 months without caring about the Nintendo releases. From January 2018 until October 2018, I cared about almost nothing first-party Nintendo was putting out. I know 2017 was a stacked year, but still. And after Animal Crossing launched in March 2020, I didn't really care about anything other than Xenoblade Chronicles DE until mid 2021. Admittedly, COVID-19 happened and clearly delayed some of Nintendo's games.
While Nintendo now has the benefit of their studios mostly working for one new platform (which they were still organizing at the start of Switch's life), they are working with more capable hardware. Nintendo mentioned how taxing HD development was for them which is why Wii U's first half of 2013 was absolutely pathetic and one of the main reasons Wii U failed. Developing games for a platform which is probably going to be at minimum as capable as a PS4 will take time. Admittedly, Switch came out 8 years ago and Nintendo should've had time to figure it out.
3. Weak online, again. I'm not expecting Nintendo Switch 2 Online to be as good or better than PSN and Xbox Game Pass. But what I do expect is finally adopting modern online infrastructure that Sony and Microsoft already nailed with PS3 and Xbox 360. In most ways, NSO has been worse than Xbox Live on Xbox 360 and PSN on PS3. That is unacceptable. Get rid of the profile friend codes already, have party chat right on the console, and bring in dedicated servers.

What Would W. Do?

With the curtains now peeled back I can say my primary concerns are Game Key Cards and Gamechat! The key cards will obviously be the popular choice for now for most 3rd party’s. I know some were calling the Switch 2 the last boon for physical collectors and it may not be an exaggeration. Not too mention the cost of memory ain’t cheap. These Express cards come at a premium cost right now.

Gamechat is a nice feature to have but I do have concern regarding just how baked in it is to the systems resources and is it a feature that will ultimately go unused? Wii U had the TV function that was initially a main feature of the console but was later removed. Hopefully it can provide the use and value that Nintendo is anticipating

@Dev-N I have an OG Switch and a Lite and I have experimented moving the virtual game cards back and forth; it's easy enough. I suspect if you use the official transfer tool it will move all your game cards to Switch 2, but then you can just move them all back. I have 100s of games and it took me maybe 30 minutes to eject them all from one console and add them all to a different console. The only slightly obnoxious feature is it starts auto-downloading games when you swap virtual cards, but they're easy enough to cancel.

Can we really pick and choose what games to transfer between Switch 1 and 2, or does it have to be a full transfer? I don't want to bring ALL of my games to 2. You'd think Virtual Game Cards would naturally allow that, and Nintendo says they work across the "Nintendo Switch family of systems" which should obviously include 2, but this has been surprisingly confusing to me and this IS Nintendo we're talking about here...

It seems like it will involve all data from an account, and that includes all games. Nintendo hasn’t allowed you to transfer specific games since the DSi to 3DS transfer.

Currently due to sell my SWOLED next week, about a week in lieu of collection SW2.

In terms of the factory reset - > upload data to Switch/2 cloud...

Is it the case that the upload in question is a 'snapshot in time' of my existing downloaded virtual games and game cards? Ie when the cloud downloads to new switch2, it would only auto-download the games that were downloaded at the time of my upload?

CJD87

FishyS

@CJD87 I don't think we know precisely what will happen, but it should move all your save files as a snapshot. Any games you haven't downloaded but own are still on your account so you can download later.

Setting a virtual game card causes an auto-download, so if I were to guess it will try to auto download all the games you currently have loaded as virtual game cards regardless of whether you have them downloaded or not. And any other games should be listed as downloadable under the virtual game card menu on Switch 2.
