I have a sneaking suspicion that Smash 6 is not happening this gen actually. I think they might want extra time to think about where to go from Ultimate, we usually see them do so in those situations. Maybe give Ultimate the MK8D treatment and then we see Smash 6 on the Switch 3/whatever's after the Switch 2.
If Super Smash Bros. Ultimate gets the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe treatment or maybe for Smash 6, I do wanna see Callie, Marie, Pearl, Marina, Shiver, Frye and Big Man added into the roster of fighters

No way in hell we're getting all of those Splatoon reps. We might get 1 or 2 new chars. That's about it.
Not sure about Deep Cut getting a spinoff. For one, I'm not sure how popular they would be, I would think the Squid Sisters or Off the Hook would be better choices. Second, what would the gameplay be? What would make them unique? I could see a Splatoon spinoff happening, but not this. At best I'm thinking a Squid Sisters game if they find some kind of Splatoon spin on a music/rhythm game, but I'm not sure if they could come up with an angle for that.
Well, when they introduced the DLC waves which had Inkopolis Plaza (Wave 1) and Side Order (Wave 2, unlocked Inkopolis Square after beating it the first time), this brought back most of the attention to the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook. Doesn’t help that Splatoon 3 got a skip feature later on, Deep Cut got made to be the bosses of the story mode and only had them help in the end. And don’t forget that Deep Cut ended up coming in last place in Grand Festival (they got nothing). This left them with a bad reputation from the start, shafting them from their debut game.
Deep Cut was the first to come up in my head because even though I’m more of an Off the Hook person, Deep Cut also deserved better. They have much more we could explore on, maybe also following the events of Grand Festival, but you’re right. Figuring out how the gameplay would be is a toughie.
Besides, where would they even go with an Off the Hook spin-off game, especially if it ends up being one with both Squid Sisters and Off the Hook?

Alright. In that case, would be choice between Squid Sisters of Off the Hook, or even one from each (each duo has 2 characters, so it’s easier to choose from either of them)
My biggest fear is devs continue to develop for PS5 Pro levels of performance, prioritizing graphics and then downscaling or 'making sacrifices' for it to work on other consoles in a purely cynical money grab
This kinda goes back to the point I was making a few pages back. What the Switch 2 will lack compared to the PS5 and later on PS6 is raw compute. But what it won't lack is features. I wouldn't expect games to run as well on Switch 2 as they do on PS5 but when games on PS5 are targeting 4K/60 and Switch 2 has a 1080p screen? It doesn't need to. I think people are going to be surprised at how much of the library "filters down" to Switch 2
This isn't like the 90s and early 00s where every platform had a radically different feature set and porting to other platforms required entirely reworking the engine. This isn't like the transition from 360/PS3 to Wii U where Nintendo (correctly) rebalanced the architecture (as PS4/XBOne also would) to make the GPU relatively much larger than the CPU. This isn't even like the Switch where there's not quite enough power to run these modern games at 720p
I expect most games will be able to scale down to run on Switch 2

On that note, everyone's favourite tech Youtuber, Moore's Law is Dead states Switch 2 will get more 3rd party support than Switch 1 throughout it's lifecycle, in the latest 'Broken Silicon' episode (28:58). I know everyone here loves to hate on this guy but for what it's worth, I think he has largely good intentions and some genuinely thought provoking theories as to where the industry's headed. With the amount of last minute changes to tech and the associated prices that come with said changes, especially those sold by the likes of Nvidia, no source can be 100% reliable all of the time.
On that basis, it's still interesting to get an intelligent, reasonably informed take from someone who isn't just regurgitating the latest headlines and actually has something original to say. Based on what we know regarding the leaked specs and it being equivalent to a Series S but with more RAM, I expect he's right. Not a huge take at this point but probably one that'll prove correct. Hopefully this translates to decent sales over the next 5-6 years and another very successful console. It will undoubtedly have more competition than the current Switch with Playstation and more PC handhelds on the horizon, but with its first party titles and DLSS support, it should still prove to be another very solid generation for the big N.
@Jalex_64 Switch 1 got an insane amount of 3rd party support tbh, but I don't think anyone doubts that Switch 2 will get even more at least early on, including some AAA 3rd party support that was rarer on Switch 1.
Any other interesting points in the videos? I have nothing against that YouTuber, but I don't want to wade through an hour and a half video...
I doubt that we are looking at significantly higher Switch 2 prices because of tariffs. Nintendo already does a lot of their manufacturing in Vietnam, as well as China, as a result of previous trade wars, and they've yet to be mentioned in connection with proposed tariffs. Just ship those units to the US for sale instead of Chinese-made ones, and it's all good.
If the worst came to the worst, and Vietnam attracted heavy tariffs too, they could set up a final production line in the US similar to how Sony have one for the PS5 in Japan; it's basically built out of components that are shipped in as kits and pretty much entirely by robots to keep costs down. Sure, prices would still go up, but not by nearly as much as the tariffs suggest.
The main issue is that it would take months to set up and the US effectively gets locked out of the market in the meantime, unless people are prepared to pay sky-high prices. I suspect that's why Nintendo might want to be waiting until the dust has settled to launch the console.
The possibility that it might all just be hot air from a guy who would say anything to get elected has crossed my mind too. Still, take it seriously but not literally, as the saying goes.
Coming back to this after seeing you-know-who wanting to impose tariffs on semiconductor chips from Taiwan, who knows if the chances of Nintendo building a final production line and import parts to just build them in the US will get hover in the future.
@MrCarlos46 I think we can safely say that the talk of day one tariffs on all Chinese goods was hot air now that it's been over a week.
On the question of semiconductor production though, the US is in the middle of a program to expand it considerably - the CHIPS act passed by the previous administration - and that's probably not going to be very competitive without government subsidies and protectionism. Some tariffs on imported chips that could instead be made in the US might come to pass as a result.
@NeonPizza Most are saying power would be close to base PS4/Xbox One levels when in handheld and then either close to PS4 Pro/Xbox One X or Xbox Series S levels when docked.
Wouldn't say that I'm overly concerned (not least because I probably won't get a Switch 2), but I am curious; do you think that you'll be able to have the same account on both a Switch and Switch 2 at the same time?

This is a great question! Knowing Nintendo I’m going to assume it’s a NO! Unless there’s a valid reason a user would be playing both Switch 1 and 2 at the same time? Perhaps the bigger question is can Switch 1 gamers play online with Switch 2 gamers with the backwards compatibility? If Metroid Prime is cross gen and has multiplayer can it be enjoyed on either system ?…or will Nintendo lock online capabilities between Switch 1 and 2?
Really curious to see just how baked in the mouse functionality is. Will mouse functionality become a home console hybrid stable after Switch 2? Or will it be introduced in a 1-2 Switch like package only for the feature to fizzle out and rarely be incorporated into gameplay?
@NeonPizza
I’m going to assume we see an update to the Pro Comtroller…perhaps it’ll include a slider to emulate some mouse functionality? One thing ppl forget is that Nintendo mainstreamed rumble functionality. Switch 1 rumble was described as “HD rumble” as we saw in some 1-2 Switch games. Perhaps they further evolve the rumble features on Switch 2. Subtle but a nice feature on a controller. If anything Tim not sunrise if we see a full out Nintendo mouse controller. Mouse Pro Controller!!

I'm assuming they will have it work exactly like someone with e.g. an original Switch and a Switch Lite where you designate one Switch as the primary and one as secondary and two people can play a single digital purchase at the same time on both devices, with mild restrictions.
Unlikely to happen these days, but based on how the Japanese eShop will no longer allow foreign payments in March, are we potentially looking at Nintendo going back to region locking for Switch 2 or is it only a digital payment thing?
@MrCarlos46
My opinion would be it's just a digital payment thing.
I think region locking is kind of a thing of the past. Sort of how everyone just expects each new console to have backwards compatibility these days, people also expect new consoles to be able to play games from all regions.
To go back to region locking in this ultra-connected age would likely produce a PR headache for Nintendo.
It's something to do with credit card fraud being much harder to detect and pursue when it happens outside the issuing country; that's long been a thing but it must have been getting to the point where the chargebacks just weren't worth the extra business they got. You can still get around it with gift cards, at least.
