If you dont think getting less than two hours battery in TOTK is bad, youll be perfectly happy with this! Heck if i lower my standards enough, ill enjoy just about anything. If it was thirty minutes battery life well that would just give me more exercise as i got up and down to charge it, thanks Sega Noma-- i mean Nintendo Switch 2!
This is why there is a race to the bottom on this planet. Ah well, back to Bravely Default HD.
@Quantumz00
A game like BotW I'm mostly going to play docked anyways. Especially if it's pushing surround sound, HDR, post HD resolutions. For me playing in portable mode is mostly a 30mins here or there kind of thing and I'll often have a power bank on hand. And it's usually with lighter games that are more favourable to handheld play (eg I don't play Hogwarts Legacy on my Steam Deck, I play Dirt Rally and Balatro)
The Switch 2 appears to have similar battery life to the OG Switch. And I never had an issue with the OG Switch. So I, personally, don't see it as an issue. It's fine

The battery is incredibly disappointing as someone who primarily plays in handheld mode. I don't have a TV to dock my console to, so I'm stuck with handheld mode until I can afford a 4K TV. It's a major downgrade from the OLED, where you can play games for hours without having to worry about the battery draining.

Welp got mine. Can’t open until august though. Just waiting on yunobo and the SF6 cards to get here.

Now that I’ve played around in Mario Kart for a bit, it’s freaking great. The system is beautiful, everything feels more premium, and it’s just overall so much more responsive. I can share more thoughts about MK later - but I’m very happy with everything. And I’m having a blast in free roam, working on P switches.
As a side note, I found P Switch Challenge #4… yeah, it’s HARD. I’m going to have to really improve before I’m able to finish that one…
@VoidofLight
Maybe we should find some proper battery tests rather than just taking at face value someone with a huge list of grievances declaring "sub 2 hours". I don't know how much it has out of the box but with mine I set it up, queued a bunch of downloads, played a couple of rounds of World and it was at 33% when I finally got it to the charger. That would've been maybe 3 hours of not particularly light use (although not full use admittedly)
Would I have liked to see more left? Yes. But again, I don't remember how much charge it came out of the box with. Not saying it's great and I'm sure the OLED smokes it. We knew this. I just don't think it's the outrage bait some are making it out to be

I don't know if the batteries are different, I just downloaded for 10 mins and 8-10% of the battery life went down. Though my internet isn't great. I mostly kept it plugged in after that.
Some of the enhanced games look fantastic (BotW, TotK, EoW...)
The disappointing / the "wait and see if I get used to this":
Slightly disappointed by the feel of the system. It's not bad but feels a bit "cheaper" to me than the OLED. The added bulk is quite noticeable. And the joy-con share an issue with the Dualsense and Xbox Series for me in that the shoulder buttons are uncomfortable to reach.
Un-enhanced Switch games seemingly look worse on this than the OLED. Probably a combination of LCD, screen size, upscaling, etc. For some reason 30 fps also feels quite jarring on this whereas I was used to it on the Switch.
The improvements to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet do nothing for me...if anything they make it more jarring how sparse the environments are / how flat the models look.
As usual, can't get HDR to work - everything just looks washed out (probably just an issue with my rather low-end TV / TV needs configuring).
All very exciting still. I'll probably get used to my "negatives" but seems like I'll be using my Switch OLED alongside my Switch 2 for the time being. Let's see how this goes!
@skywake I'm not going off of someone's unsubstantiated claims. I'm going off of my experience. I was only able to play an hour before my Battery drained to 20%. I was playing Mario Kart World, and two races drained it from 89% to 20% with downloads in the background.

I checked the eshop and the Switch 1 version of Legends Z-A is eligible for game vouchers now. So the cheapest way to get 1st party Switch 2 editions digitally (even upcoming ones) is to use the voucher program to get the Switch 1 version and then get the upgrade.
The main things I wanted were improved input latency and a Pro Controller with a better d-pad.
I haven't bought the new Pro Controller yet so I'm using my OG Pro Controller. My early feeling is that the input latency is indeed better. I'm testing it by playing 8-4 on Lost Levels (on NSO), as I've been hammering that on Switch 1 recently, and there's a few movements which I'm sure feel more responsive. I'll have to wait for someone to test it properly but I'm very encouraged so far.
the reports of the dpad on the Pro Controller being great makes me want to buy one of those
I've seen mixed reports - one guy on Famiboards saying Tetris plays perfectly (very promising) but there is a Reddit thread with people saying they're still getting a lot of incorrect inputs. I'm holding off buying one until I hear more.
Has anyone got an 8bitdo controller working yet? My M30 isn't functioning at all.
So, do we think there is any hope for a system patch that makes battery life better somehow? I expect not, but I don't know how these things work. If not, would turning on airplane mode make any difference?
Do you think we will be able to get replacement batterys further down the line (from Nintendo or unofficial places) that may be better? Or it won't be till a mid system 'Oled'/Pro update till something can be done, which I wouldn't want to spring for really.
Also, do you think they will make a Switch 2 Lite?
My first day with the Switch 2 was a little underwhelming, being honest. The device feels great in hand, the screen is nice, but my launch day titles ended up being Pokemon Scarlet, Bravely Default Remastered and Mario Kart World. Weirdly out of these three games, Scarlet feels like the only game in that list that really shows what the Switch 2 leap could be, and even then, it is still entrenched in a heavily compromised vision for the original Switch. We won't really see what a next gen leap Pokemon game can be, until one is designed for the Switch 2 ground up (which I am not sure even the next Legends game will be, as I am pretty sure it still has to run on the Switch 1, which is going to severely hold that game back). Even looking ahead, I am not even sure what the systems wow game even is at least in the short term future.
@Pizzamorg You don't think Mario Kart World shows the leap in the console's capabilities?
I mean no, not really. When you are in a race, it just feels like more Mario Kart to me. I guess maybe the open world? But the open world just feels like a novelty I'm not gonna put a lot of time into that. Which I guess maybe sounds like goal post moving, but I just meant more like an entire game end to end that felt like a real switch leap, not just a small pocket at the side of a game with some enhancements.
