Honestly, I think we'll just get an Ask The Developer and that will be it for the week lmao

this is really disappointing, but expected. i think july 30th/31st is the next date it could happen. or we might be waiting until september and have a Prime 4 direct and announcements dropped via Nintendo Today in august!!!

Yeah I think it's clear that my prediction from prior to the April Direct is correct: the next big general Direct is in September.

Next week is DK Bananza, Pokémon Presents is the following week. I think we get a Prime 4 Direct in early August for a late September release, and then the September Direct is where we see everything else. Oh, and said September Direct won't be 100% focused on Switch 2; there will be some Switch 1 stuff too.

A Direct now seems unlikely till end of the month, but what are the chances Nintendo goes off-script and does it this Saturday-Monday?

@PikminMarioKirby, I would say unlikely, simply because most of the time, they strictly stick to Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

@PikminMarioKirby Incredibly unlikely. Pretty sure the only time they had a presentation over the weekend was one of the Pokémon Day Presents, and that's only because Pokémon Day fell on a Sunday that year.

@IceClimbers I agree with all of that at this point.

I've been on the fence about a Metroid Prime 4 Direct but then again, despite what it feels like (to me at least) we haven't seen an awful lot of the game and if it is lined up for September then it's gonna need another big kick to get the marketing going sometime soon!

I can’t see a Metroid Prime 4 Direct happening. We’ve had multiple trailers and the treehouse, I don’t think we need much more than 1 more trailer and an overview trailer, as we’ve seen seemingly the main gimmick along with general gameplay. I don’t think this game will be popular enough to have its own Direct anyways, I think (and hope) they learned their lesson from the Xenoblade 3 Direct

VoidofLight

@PikminMarioKirby I honestly forgot that the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 direct existed... and I'm a fan of the series.

@VoidofLight The only reason I remember the XE3 Direct was because it was during a time where there were few upcoming 1st party games for the year and people were eager for a general Direct, and we just got that instead. I don’t think it was necessary to have a Direct for the game, enough definitely could’ve been shown in separate trailers.

@PikminMarioKirby I hadn't actually realized there was a prime 4 treehouse. The question is did it show everything or did it just show a little like the Donkey Kong treehouse did which then looked massively better when it had a direct.

@FishyS The Treehouse segment was them playing through the intro area (the June 2024 general Direct area) before Samus is transported to Viewros.

We've seen very little about Viewros itself, the March 2025 general Direct segment in addition to the very short gameplay clip showing off 4K 60fps/1080p 120fps in the Switch 2 Direct and the very brief tease at the end of the June 2024 general Direct..

@FishyS Yeah I didn’t care much for the treehouses, it quite limited what they showed, from what I saw.

As someone who’s never played a Metroid Prime game, I’m not convinced with this one. It just looks like the same as the other 3 games, visually and gameplay-wise. I might as well buy Prime Remastered for about half the price and it’s essentially the same experience, from what I’m getting.

That being said, maybe we will get more new stuff, and they’re just hiding it? This game might have a short marketing push, considering September seems like the most likely timing for release

Ugghghghgh I think this makes sense but I hate this because as someone with no interest in DK and Prime this is hellish lmao. LIke I want info on Kirby... (I presume Pokemon will have information on Pokemon Present so that would be fine) </3 Need to decide on what to buy is hard lol

(I'm also having some coping for some games to be released on Switch 2 as well instead of PS5/Xbox only, but that's my issue)

@PikminMarioKirby Honestly the direct showed nothing that new, and spoiled the story. I probably won't watch Xenoblade 4's direct if it gets one.

Late August is not that far away..

1 month and a half is pretty long! I'll be patient but just sucks because the one I wanted is just things I either just want to play already, or I want more information and lock in.

@PikminMarioKirby Yeah, the lack of information or new gameplay mechanics in Prime 4 is why I don't think they're done with reveals. This series has been dormant for 18 years, it shouldn't look this samey gameplay wise and they should have tons of ideas for what else they can do with the Prime formula. Game worlds have gotten bigger so we should see some bigger areas (not necessarily open world, that doesn't really work for a Metroidvania, but maybe some of the main hub areas in the worlds should be a bit bigger, maybe we should have more tunnels branching from them, etc.). They could stand to add more side content to the game, collecting expansions and filling the logbook is nice but it's not enough in the year 2025, maybe adding some kind of side quest system where you can fulfill smaller missions for the Federation (simple stuff like "find this Relic", "hunt X number of enemies", etc.) that could reward you with more upgrades/expansions would be a nice addition. And then there's QoL additions like fast travel (show of hands, who enjoyed going back and forth between Tallon Overworld and Phendrana Drifts 3 times in Prime 1?) or not having missable scans anymore (maybe to allow bosses to be rematched they could have some kind of simulator side mode which could also serve as a boss rush and reward you with upgrades for beating it). The only changes we've seen so far are the psychic abilities and there's vague hints that we don't have doors anymore, and they've shown only a small portion of the game (just what seems to be the tutorial area in that warzone and what seems to be the beginning area in that jungle). If this is it that is pitifully weak marketing for a game that's been long awaited and needs to pay off in a big way. So yeah, Prime 4 needs a dedicated Direct or at least a blowout sort of trailer that reveals a lot of new things about the game. Otherwise there's a good chance this game flops, Metroid already underperforms in sales and if they don't give more casual fans a reason why they should care about the resurrection of this long dormant IP then they'll probably just continue to ignore it. It would be utterly foolish of Nintendo to just leave Prime as is going into its launch.

The situation with vouchers makes me think the next general Direct might be in February. If we look back to earlier this year, instead of a February general Direct we got the announcement of gold points ending meanwhile the general Direct happened a few days after gold points were discontinued so they may wait until vouchers are gone before doing the next general Direct.
