@MS7000 Japanese Path of Radiance has no easy mode. Only normal, hard and Japan exclusive Maniac. Easy mode was added to the western release.
I think Path of Radiance has less one dimensional characters.
"I like to eat"
"I like to train"
"I like food"
"I'm a womanizer"
"I'm a complete psycho"
"I'm a literal dragon god chosen one and everybody worships me, but really I'm not that special"
Had given Counter skill to Brom, my knight after Gatrie left.
But now that I have Gatrie, with 19 Strength vs Brom's 10, with 10 Defense vs Brom's 8, with 3 Resistance vs Brom's 5 (which is his only weakness vs Brom really), and with more speed and seemingly way better growths (I got 5 stat increases on last Bonus XP Level Up, whereas with Brom it's a struggle to get more than 2 or 3), and the fact I just like Gatrie more, I decided to use him going forward.
It just sucks having wasted Counter on Brom. If Brom had more Strength I'd have stuck with him but, at Level 16 with only 10 Strength, and Gatrie being 19 after that BXP level up, I just couldn't justify it.

@Retrodouche Sorry, might not have said it clearly in my comment, but that was what I was alluding too. I am aware that the lowest difficulty in Japan was normal. I was more saying that me doing well on normal, isn't that impressive when you consider it is the easiest difficulty that was available in Japan.
@Late I think I’m fine for the time being, but thank you! I have a cousin who’s interested in FE too so I’ve thought of seeing if he’d be interested in trying it out too and perhaps learning as we play.
Kind of want to try making my own deck sometime though.
I got a few packs of characters I like including some TMS ones. Plus individual cards of Cipher exclusive units like Niamh and Emma.
I also like Legion as a character and have multiple of his cards for the theming.
Finished the multi-part forest chapter. Was a bit long-winded. I never felt like I was in danger. I probably should have picked Hard mode instead. Oh well, more reasons to replay later.
I feel like most Fire Emblem games follow similar story, characters and maps but Path of Radiance has pleasantly surprised me with its story. Theming is strong and characters feel more like actual people. Ike is a great protagonist.
@yokokazuo It's too bad Cipher original units never got great cards. I tried to build a deck around Niamh but it just didn't work. It couldn't keep up with my other decks and the other decks are far from perfect. That said, when you have a small collection of cards, you just make anything you can out of them. I started with a box of boosters from the first set back in 2016 and the decks made from those 160 cards lasted me a good while before I decided to buy more.
Check out my Gaming Nonograms thread here on Nintendo Life if you are into Picross or other similar games.
Did anyone else have trouble hearing what the characters say during the cut scenes? Just finished chapter 7 and couldn’t hear what the characters are saying during the movie scene even though the music is more than loud enough.
Just beat Ch. 14. Had to redo it cause I sent Marcia to northeast instead of northwest and missed the recruit.
Decided to start training up Kieran and Jill when possible, subbing in for Volke when no chests are needed and I'll be benching Titania for a bit to spread XP around to others. Got Vantage and gave it to Soren who has crazy good stats. He just promoted too, can use Healing staves now which rocks. And with Boyd promoted he can use bows to take out fliers.
Mia
Lv = 20
HP = 30
Str = 14
Skill = 20
Sp = 20
Lck = 13
Def = 14
Res = 11
Think I need to redo ch 11. I can’t avoid that little “twist” late in the map. Probably my fault for not paying full attention to the hints. I can’t make any moves without someone getting killed, so ya, probably restart.
@JaxonH probably a good call to sit Titania, but she’s my only tank. Everyone has barely any defense aside from maybe Boyd. Oscar isn’t so bad either. But everyone else is a complete risk even with defense in numbers. Just hard to sit her knowing I can send her out alone and not worry is huge.
Beat Chapter 15. Sucks I gave Miracle to Ike when I need to give him an occult scroll for Aether, which means he'll have to lose Miracle. Poor planning on my part. Like wasting Counter on Brom now that I opted for Gatrie. Ah well.
Gonna give another occult scroll to Oscar for Sol once he promotes, since he doesnt have any other skills.
@NintendoByNature
I wouldn't bench her til Chapter 15 after she maxes out at Promoted Lv 20 so she's not gaining any XP or stats anyways. And at that point you'll have a promoted Boyd, either Brom or Gatrie as Knight tanks, a super tanky Soren with high Def and Res and if promoted both Vantage to attack first and Adept for 2 consecutive attacks.
Plus Ike should be bulking up by then, and Oscar and Kieran can handle a bit of damage. And Mia has decent defense but such high avoid she doesn't get hit half the time anyways.

@JaxonH good call. Restarted chapter 11 and knew exactly what was coming. Wiped the floor with them. Barely took a hit. I think Titania is at level 20 right now for me? I have to check.
I just leveled up my hybrid Fire Emblem even higher with the additions of Shadow Dragon and Heroes of Light and Shadow
Now I have the following Fire Emblem games on Switch Lite OLED/Switch OLED and Switch 2:
Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light (NES) [NS1]
Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War (SNES) [PSNES]
Fire Emblem Thracia 776 (SNES) [PSNES]
Fire Emblem Binding Blade (GBA) [mGBA]
Fire Emblem Blazing Blade (GBA) [NSO]
Fire Emblem Sacred Stones (GBA) [NSO]
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (GC) [NSO]
Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon (DS) [melonDS]
Fire Emblem Heroes of Light and Shadow (DS) [melonDS]
All in English. Technically I could add FE Gaiden (NES) aka FE2, and FE Mystery of the Emblem (SNES) aka FE3, in English, but honestly I just won't ever play those. I beat the FE2 remake Shadows of Valentia on 3DS, and FE3 has an expanded remake in FE12: Heroes of Light and Shadow on DS, which I'm playing on Switch now in English. In fact Idk why I keep the official translated release of the original first NES game when I now have the Shadow Dragon DS remake of it on Switch.
Here's Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon (DS) on my Switch OLED with Mobapad M6HD Joycon. It even accepts touch, or buttons, or you can use right analog as a "mouse" cursor to imitate a stylus, and, it even has gyro for the mouse cursor!
Now personally, I prefer using none of that and just using buttons for everything with the occasional touch on screen if I feel like it (but touch is never required- everything can be done with buttons and d-pad. It also lets you fast forward, and of course as with all these, save states.
Just beat the game yesterday on Difficult! This was my second time fully playing through the game and the first on Difficult. There is a bit of an extra part at the end on Difficult as well as the Japanese Maniac modes which was neat to see.
One thing which I was curious about is the GBA link which gives you a gallery of character portraits from the GBA games (FE6/Binding Blade is only in the Japanese version) along with 3 other trial maps. Thankfully, they all show up after you clear the game.
I want to give the Japanese version’s Maniac mode a go so I’ve got a bit of progress so far on the Japanese app now. Some tricky parts, but it’s been manageable so far.
Assuming Wii comes to the service with system transfers available, I kind of want to eventually get multiple supports across other files and one in particular for transferring to a RD playthrough.
@JaxonH haha thanks!
Starting chapter 4 now. Had one early redo in the first chapter, but haven’t actually had any deaths yet. Using save states every couple turns just in case though.
I think this chapter got a little bit tricky on Difficult so I’ll see how it is this time around
-cavarly, armor knights and fliers make your life easier
-Taniths reinforcements are good targets for taking hits especially siege tomes
-oscar & kieran with support + axes and lances (or bows for wyverns) are an amazing duo
-Oscars secondary support should be Ike and Ikes primary support Soren to maximize avoid. (Stefan is also worth bringing along just to give Soren more avoid)
-forge a lot of hand axes for later chapters (especially for clash)
-master the art of unit placement, rescue dropping and shoving. A good first turn is a difference of life and death in a couple of chapters.
-the knight ward can be traded just before level ups to give an extra 20% to your speed growth. Pass it around like a joint
-some late game enemies have some nasty skills like wrath, astra etc so check skills
-If you train Volke you can steal some staves and weapons. There's physic and status staves (sleep, silence) that really help a lot
-It's a pain but try to get the knight ring for Reyson
@JaxonH Your Mia has
+2 Hp
+4 skill
+1 Luck
+4 Def
+6 Res
Compared to an average level 20 Mia. Extremely good levelups even if you have given her stat boosters😯
I'm so happy more people get to experience this game. I goshdarn love this duology, and enjoyed reading through people's progress here. I'll be keeping an eye on how you all get along.
(A little late, but I'm for Permadeath on, only I restart the chapter if someone dies, so is it on, really?)
Used/learned a bit of this on the last playthrough (Tanith’s reinforcements came in very handy in the final battle when I accidentally had several units too close)
I had forgotten about the 5 support cap until after Ike filled his up, but intend to properly support him this time.
I also found myself trying out multiple units last time and spreading exp amongst a bunch of them, but I hope to limit who I train a bit more this time around.
Also made it to Chapter 7 now. 6 had some troubles as I got a bit overwhelmed on the left bridge. Managed to work out a formation after a few tries that helped me to clear out some room to progress.
Also weapon durability has been running low with Soren’s wind breaking just before I can get the fire tome on this next chapter. Doing ok for Ike, but I kind of miss those 3 extra iron swords haha.
(And I’ve heard the Japanese crit forge bug was fixed too)
Full Guard on Marcia (Pegasus Knight) is awesome. So is that Laguz thing that keeps my Lethe transformed all the time. My Lethe is a beast (pun definitely intended). She's like Titania #2. I can send her out solo and every enemy within range lines up and gets KO. But, I just learned Laguz don't promote and she's already at Lv 15, so she's probably quite a bit over leveled.
I just finished Chapter 16 and will be starting Chapter 17 tomorrow. I know, I'm slow, but I'm making it through a Chapter every other day or so.
@Retrodouche
Really? Not a single minus? Idk how you got that info but, good to know, thank you!
