I don't get why people are so antsy about getting a Mario 40th Anniversary Direct. Like, even if we don't it's not a sign that Nintendo has FORGOTTEN about Super Mario.

It's not so much antsy but rather that we know they will have one (or at least a call-out in a general direct) so it's exciting to guess what it will involve.

@FishyS I guess. I suppose I'm a little more wary than most about getting anything truly exciting though, given how Mario's 35th turned out(among other reasons), but that's just me.

@N00BiSH Mario 35th had a lot of stuff, they just annoyingly made most of it limited edition, presumably because of their long terms plans for NSO and expansion pack

@FishyS It had a lot of stuff, I won't deny but the limited edition FOMO nonsense took a lot of the excitement out of it. I don't wanna go through another round of that.

I'd rather just have a general direct with Mario stuff in it, rather than a Mario direct at this point. I'm not the largest Mario fan. I play the games, sure- but I don't know how well I'd enjoy it when we haven't had a General Direct in ages. I want to know more about other first party games coming to the Switch 2.. not just a Mario announcement.

Hollow Knight Silksong went way overboard with difficulty and lack of save points, resulting in frustration and tedium. Not unexpected when a 3 man team has been working on HK/SS for over a decade. They don't realize how good they've gotten at the game and how incredibly difficult it will be for the average Joe.

I say that as an original 2014 backer. I still think it's a great game, but I had to put it down because it's just too much for me.

I oftenly mentioned BLUEY on UK chart sales because that's the only 3rd party games in UK that really steal my attention and I don't even care with the other best selling games in UK.
I don't care that popularity, it means nothing for me.
Even BLUEY will never be number 1 in UK sales, to see that franchise appeared at least on Top 40, it gives me a smile.

@Hapless That's a popular opinion generally speaking. It's more unpopular to actually like the remakes than hate them.

I think this is a shame if true. Personally they're my favourite games in the series, and probably have the best combat system of any JRPG I've ever played.

At least 2'8".

VoidofLight

@Buizel A lot of people are unhappy with them because they changed the story or added “padding” with mini-games, but I love the remakes as well tbh. Especially Rebirth.

@VoidofLight Tbh I really don't like the minigames at all so I can agree on that. But I think FF has always had kinda crap minigames, with few exceptions.

But a lot of the extra "padding" I'm absolutely fine with / really enjoy - I think it's great that we see characters and story beats so fleshed out.

I really hope they don’t dedicate a good chunk of the Direct to Mario 40th. Like, 10 minutes, fine, but I’m seeing people predicting half of the Direct and that would be really disappointing

@Megas75 I feel like it's why the direct is 60 minutes. It'll be 45 minutes of normal direct content and 15 for the Mario stuff.

FishyS

The 2020 Mario direct was about 16 minutes and that had a lot of stuff. Since this is a general direct, any Mario game announcements are just game announcements, but I wouldn't imagine the Mario Merch /random mario apps/ maybe movie trailer section would be more than around 15 minutes.

I really feel like Sonic Racing Crossworlds is a super over-hyped game and really killed the hype for me. I find that it is constantly compared to Mario Kart World and many people say it is better. All the hype made me have high expectations for the game, and I feel like it will not hit those expectations.

Odyssey 2 when?

N00BiSH

@WaveBoy I won't disagree with your take, but you've felt that way about PlayStation since the PS2? Really???

PS2, PS4 and PS5 have the strongest games library choice for 3rd party kids games in my opinion.
PS2 have tons of cartoonish 3D platformer games, girly games, cartoon franchise or movies to video games, rhythm games like DDR.
PS4 & PS5 have the strongest home builder genre games such as The Sims 4, Portal Knights, Dragon Quest Builders 1 & 2, Fantasy Life I, etc.
I felt granted to have PS1 - PS5 with different signature of 3rd party games I can play.

@Anti-Matter welcome back.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

I've probably said it before, but with all the buzz around the duology, I might as well say it again: I never want to see a Super Mario Galaxy 3 and I would be disappointed and quite frankly concerned if it's the next big 3D Mario game. I just don't wanna see Mario games get any direct sequel tbh. I like them because they're all so distinct and different from one another and pigeonholing 3D Mario into having future installments based solely on one game's mechanics would just make them feel stagnant and uninteresting to me. It'd be the New Super Mario Bros. thing all over again.
