@Tyranexx Yes, especially since I draw, Igor a ton of art styles, and I do not hate any really, I only just prefer some over others. I absolutely love the art style and direction of Splatoon; it’s so colorful, vibrant, and pretty unique, and it sort of has an urban and streetwear look with the fashionable outfits some of the characters wear. The character designs have got to be one of my favorite aspects of the game’s art direction. I do think it is pretty rare to see shooter games that are colorful looking and silly, and not super realistic or gritty. There was this shooter game I saw during the Xbox showcase last month, and it appealed to me more than other shooters since the game looked colorful as well. I would love for more shooter games that have colorful, cartoony, and comic art styles, and are a bit silly.
You are right about the remake pretty much getting “Microsoft’d,” cuz they are the ones that requested that the game release censored in order to avoid offending people, but I think the only people the original game really offended were parents. In fact, most of the controversy the game generated really came from parents. I do think the focus on online multiplayer didn’t come from Microsoft, but it was probably Rare’s attempt to have the game fit into the Xbox ecosystem since the Xbox is a bit synonymous with shooter games, and Rare was (and sometimes is still considered) associated with Nintendo, who is more synonymous with more colorful and non-shooter games besides Splatoon. The multiplayer in the remake was apparently fun when the online servers were still up, but I can’t say anything on that since I only played it for the first time last year.
I do think the original N64 version of Conker is more visually appealing to me, mostly since it’s colorful, but some areas like the main hub world in the remake look beautiful and still colorful. There is a bit of slapstick and cartoony violence mixed in with a bit of blood, which adds onto the subversive nature of the game, since it’s trying to subvert expectations and cliches associated with kiddy platformer games. Even though it is a a “mature” game, it still has fairly cartoony, and sometimes exaggerated and over the top violence, and there are plenty of silly moments too that add onto the charm! They do keep some of the slapstick in the remake, but it’s really downplayed sometimes from the art style change. I do think that if you were to play it, you’d like Bad Fur Day more over the remake.
I’d love to see a “spider verse” style shooter, with “BANG” and “POW” showing up in pop art when you get kills… stuff like that, and maybe they could have other things, like in game fallouts being in speech bubbles…! That is something I have always wished for.
Time to say hello again! Surprised not a lot of people have been talking on here. How are you guys doing? What’s been going on in your day?
It’s morning where I live, and it’s been a pretty fine day. Yesterday me and my family spent almost the entire day cooking, and while the food was good, I got a bit annoyed I didn’t have time to draw anything, since that is something that I have been wanting to do for a while. I miss making a bunch of art really fast, and my schedule has sometimes slowed down my hobbies and drawing. There was space for me to draw later, but it was super late, and I think I’m really slow with drawing when it’s super late and it isn’t worth tiring myself out doing it if I can’t make a ton of progress. I’ve also been so obsessed with sugar recently…I bought chocolate bars maybe four times, got a chocolate strawberry sundae and Mexican cookie, and ate a plum, two peaches and a keto ice cream yesterday…I have no self control lol.
I haven’t been playing any games recently besides the ones in my signature and on my phone, but I haven’t been gaming much since I’ve been trying to focus on drawing. It’s been my phone I’ve been playing more recently, since a song I love a ton was added to a rhythm game I love a ton, however, I’m probably going to boot up my Xbox in a few days since a game club I’m apart of is going to likely be playing Conker in August, which I am absolutely hyped for. I’m hyped cuz it’s one of my favorite games, and I’ll be able to gush about it to a bunch of people that won’t be interested in reading the essays I write on these forums lol, but I am stuck between playing the original or the remake. I’ll probably try to play the original again, even though that one is probably going to tick me off a bunch at certain times. I’m pretty excited for next month because of that.
I really feel like buying plushies right now, but I’m going to go into debt if I do XD. Do any of you own plushies? Me and my siblings used to when we were younger and played a ton with them, but they all caught mold and we had no choice to toss them. If I were to buy plushies, I’d only really keep them for show, and I’d only own a minimum of two.
@Pastellioli hiiii !!! ooh sounds like a good day :3 i really really want a kirby plushie and possibly a judd (cat from splatoon) plushie so bad!! however theres already so many stuffed in a closet haha! the only gaming ones i have are a boo and a sylveon and a pikachu. i also have a bomb omb that i won at the arcade first try-his name is exploder, hes one of my favorites. plushies are SUCH an addicting thing to collect lmao. what ones do you want to buy :]

@OctolingKing13 Oh, I would love some Splatoon plushies too, my cousin is such a huge Splatoon fan and I remember her having a Marie one…she has almost all the localized mangas and a bunch of amiibos for it too. Sometimes when me and family went to a Japanese store in the mall, there were Splatoon squid plushies there but I never bought them and always purchased stationary instead! I regret it a lot I think Deep Cut plushies I would love a lot, maybe Shiver, since she maybe has one of the best character designs in Splatoon ever.
For the ones I want, I really want to buy plushies of Banjo & Kazooie and Conker, and there are some high quality ones I saw on a gaming merch site called Fangamer, but they are so overpriced! I had a Conker plush as my avatar on here a few months ago, but the two plushies I want are like $32 bucks each, and I cannot imagine how bad the shipping would be. The plushies look so cute, but I’ll go in debt if I bought them both. I’ll have to either wait and see if there will be a price reduction (but I’m doubtful) or find cheaper official plushies that are still good quality. I’ll have to go the latter route possibly.
We used to have gaming plushies when we were smaller, specifically of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Piplup, but they all caught mold I think two or one plush survived the mold, but they went missing in the end. I am hoping I can get plushies maybe next month, but I might have to get them through Amazon if I find any nice ones. Let’s hope the shipping doesn’t mess me up!
The Behemoth has announced that BattleBlock Theater is headed to new platforms, and while the specifics aren't confirmed, the Switch is likely to be one of them
@Pastellioli Honestly, I'd probably really like Splatoon if it wasn't essentially a turf war series (Though I can't dislike what I haven't played; I'm neutral towards it). Still wouldn't mind giving the franchise a try sometime, but that's either if I find one of the games really cheap somewhere or if either Splatoon 2 or Splatoon 3 become a NSO trial. Props to it for standing out and trying to be different in pretty much all the right ways from what I've seen.
Ah...uninformed parents. I think overall as a society we're better about this, and I do think rating systems are necessary. However, it's one thing to have a system, and another for people to actually pay attention to it. Obviously there are some gray areas regarding a kid's age and what parents think is and is not OK. But I'm not going to introduce my 11 month old nephew in a few years to something like Assassin's Creed right off the bat; it'll probably be some type of Nintendo platformer to be honest. No comment on the remake's multiplayer mode, but I suspect at least some people got enjoyment out of it. I'm sure it was at least something a bit different from other shooters at the time. But yeah, I think Bad Fur Day would be more my speed...and is the more likely version for me to play anyway. I have no desire at this point to buy an Xbox. Nintendo systems and occasionally PC games are more than enough. I wouldn't say no to a PS5, but most of the games I'm interested in usually end up on PC anyway.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
@Tyranexx I don’t mind the turf war gameplay, but when I play Splatoon, I always prefer to do tanked matches instead. I think they are harder sometimes, but they are super fun, but I don’t play online a bunch anymore since my internet is crud…I nearly got penalized once because my internet disconnected twice in a row once!
It does seem to be a gray area. Of course, many people might view some things as being inappropriate or appropriate for younger people to consume. Some parents are fine with their children playing mature games, and some aren’t fine with it. It could be standards or their cultures that shape their views on inappropriate content and material. I wasn’t one of them, but I have heard so many stories on the internet of people mentioning their parents or grandparents getting them Bad Fur Day as children and letting them play it and then their parents getting upset after, though it mostly came from the parents assuming the game was for children and not paying much attention to the M rating on the box. On the game’s Wikipedia article, I recall reading this story that there was this mom who got her 15-year-old son the game back during its release, and she got extremely upset with the content in the game and was saying she was disappointed with Nintendo, but I believe that the mother likely didn’t pay attention to the age rating. I would say that most of the outrage just came from parents that were uninformed about the age rating and not paying close attention to it, and a ton of people that got the chance to play it as kids always seemed to like it and think it was the coolest thing ever.
However, if I did have kids, I probably wouldn’t let them play mature games like Bad Fur Day until they are older and can handle such content, and I would make sure to pay attention to age ratings too, plus some mature games can be complex with gameplay and mechanics at times. I was allowed to play some M-rated games when I was younger, but only the ones that were given that rating for violence and blood. I got permission to play some games from my older brother’s supervision, since I think he was playing some M-rated games when he was around 11-13, mostly from my dad having a few mature games and them both being pretty big gamers, but the ones he played were only strong with their violence and language. I would have been absolutely dead if I played an M-rated game with plenty of cursing or suggestive material as a child. There is a lot of arguments and debates people have made on the video game age rating system.
Bad Fur Day would definitely be the right fit for you then. I honestly wouldn’t go out and spend hundreds of dollars on a console just to play a specific game since I’d really do nothing else with it once I finish it. I do understand people not wanting to do that, and I think it sometimes comes from preference and money reasons, plus I think some like to not have multiple consoles lying around and having them collect dust. We just have to wait and see if it’ll get added to the Switch, which I reallyyyy hope happens soon, but they usually are pretty slow with adding the essential and good games to the N64 service. It’s the Mature 17+ N64 app I really want to see them swiftly update, since it only has two games on there at the moment and there is a lot of heavily-requested and popular games they could put on there if they are able to get the licenses to a few well-known titles. If I were to guess just by looking at the N64 NSO release schedule, the next drop would be in either August or September, though the latter seems the most plausible since there could possibly be a Direct at that time, and most big NSO updates come from Direct presentations. After that, they would likely have another drop in November or December, but they sometimes have a sporadic schedule. It’s why I really wanted them to show a roadmap for the N64 NSO service last month, since they tend to sometimes go dead silent with updates to their NSO libraries.
Not sure if this is the right place to say this, but I don't know what else I can do just now. My Mum was taken to hospital last night. I don't really know with what other than been extremely ill and delerious past 2 days. Still waiting to hear anything from the hospital as can't get hold of anyone. Sorry to bring the thread down. Just really scared
@Mana_Knight I’m super sorry. That sounds super scary, and something like that happened to my family a few years ago with my brother, so I can relate a lot. It just feels awful not knowing what will happen next. I pray that your mom is ok and feels better.
@Pastellioli Thank you. Appreciate it. I know this is a weird place to reach out and talk about this sort of thing, but I don't know where else I can say something about it. Hope that all was ok for your brother and he is doing ok now. Yes, not knowing makes it so much worse. I have no idea if I am worrying too much and thinking of doomsday scenarios for no reason.
@Mana_Knight It’s fine to talk about it here, this thread is for talking about any kind of topic.
My brother is fine, he is doing well, but when that happened me and my family were so worried and sad. He was fine in the end, but it was such an awful experience I wish I could forget from how scary it was, and me thinking of the possibilities of what could have happened just make it worse. Again, I am sorry and I hope that you and your mom are doing okay.

If you’re curious, the character in my PFP is Flippy from Happy Tree Friends.
@Mana_Knight I am sorry to hear that! I’ll be praying for you!! I can’t directly relate, but this happened to one of my friends and I was worried for him the whole time. He is better now btw. I know it can be scary, but I hope you and your family will be fine.
Yesterday in some Facebook group some people posted that they have found a hedgehog in bad condition. We (me and my wife) saw that it is in 30 minutes from home, so we ran and found the little guy.
No vets were open yesterday, so I waited to bring him this morning when they open in 10:30. Unfortunately, it died around 9:00. This is the second hedgehog we buried this year We placed it near the other one in the field (our old place where we lived).
Maybe I am the Charon for the hedgehogs or I am the Hedgehog whisperer
It was for just one night with us, but it still feels bad.
@Zuljaras glad you put that pesky blue hedgehog out of his misery.
Terrible jokes aside, I’m really sorry you went through all that and would like to extend my condolences. If it’s any consolation, Dead animals for me are honestly always a traumatic sight so I deeply synthesize with your situation and hope you’re not too disturbed by it. I may have a begun with an awful joke to lighten the mood but I share the same sentiments. I’m still haunted by the sight of that one dead cat I saw at the corner of my eye while driving a few months ago, and that one squashed bird that nearly traumatized me while I was crossing the road 5 years ago.
May that hedgehog rest in peace and May you find peace as well.
